<erebion> What's the current state for the Thinkpad X13s? Last time I tried it was Ubuntu on an X1s from work, but I moved to another company, so I had to give it back. Any noteworthy changes in the last three months? Thinking about telling my new employer I want an X13s and run Debian. Any reasons I should not? :D

<_[m]1> afaics (and especially from 6.7) should be pretty stable
<_[m]1> you can look here https://github.com/jhovold/linux/wiki/X13s for current state, it's up to date
<_[m]1> then again I might be missing some nuances / details - personally I'm waiitng for the high reso DP (external screen) bug to be solved
<_[m]1> but from the comments seems that some resos work
<neobrain> huh, didn't know audio was supposed to work :(
<neobrain> Maybe some of the kernel params mentioned on that page will fix that for me... currently I'm only using the pauth one
<jhovold> neobrain: you may be missing the user space dependencies (fw and/or ucm files), see https://github.com/jhovold/linux/wiki/X13s#userspace-dependencies
<jhovold> kernel parameters should not matter for audio
<neobrain> hm yeah, I recall having to install pd-mapper through some external package repo, so it sounds likely opensuse doesn't ship the other things on that list yet either
<neobrain> currently on travels, but will play around with this later
<neobrain> Ah, looks like for audio support the opensuse kernels needed to be built with some more options enabled, and they only started doing so since 6.6: https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1215256
<erebion> Does "-" mean no hinberantion or no info?
<erebion> *hibernation
<erebion> Also, does a regular Debian image work yey?
<erebion> Or would I still have to use the Ubuntu Concept .iso for a working system?
<erebion> (I prefer Debian over Ubuntu)
<danielt> Yes, and it's pretty well documented: https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Thinkpad/X13s
<erebion> Oh cool
<erebion> Last time I looked in the Debian wiki there wasn't anything (:
<erebion> Now I just need to find out where to get an X13s with 32 GB RAM :D
<erebion> (And get a webcam as a workaround until that's solved)
<jhovold> erebion: a dash (-) in the kernel feature table means that the feature is not (yet) supported
<erebion> Thanks!

<steev> i wish i had a 32gb version too, but i have to say, i've never really been able to push my 16gb to use it all, the most i can get is during chromium or kismet compilation (because yay c++ compilation memory usage)
<zdykstra> I just bought a 32GB/512GB version on eBay for $470
<steev> wtf?
<erebion> Wow, that's cheap
<steev> brb ebaying
<erebion> MINE!!! lol
<Jasper[m]> zdykstra: Nice
<erebion> I wonder how much it'd cost after importing it to the EU
<Jasper[m]> No shipping to the EU without asking the seller sadly
<zdykstra> the description says 16GB, but it really is a 21BX0016US
<Jasper[m]> erebion: (Device+shipping)*1.21 + whatever percentage the laptop section of import costs is
<erebion> I can just forward using shipito.com
<erebion> What is the 1.21 part?
<Jasper[m]> I got mine for 650€, though only 128GB of storage
<Jasper[m]> erebion: 21% VAT
<Jasper[m]> At least here
<steev> you *can* upgrade the internal storage
<Jasper[m]> Yes, that's what I'm planning on doing once I get a more stable setup (and I make it a daily)
<zdykstra> yeah, any 2242 NVMe should just work
<steev> not quite
<steev> some are too fat, ask HdkR
<Jasper[m]> Oh yeah, forgot to ask
<zdykstra> ahh, bummer. Single sided only, I guess.
<erebion> @Jasper But SSD can be replaced unlike RAM, right?
<Jasper[m]> Anyone ever used a 2TB sn770m on these?
<Jasper[m]> erebion: Correct, I have 32GB of RAM luckily haha
<erebion> Oh yeah, missed the messages after that, whoops
<steev> i know HdkR has some 2TB in his teams
<Jasper[m]> Jasper[m]: They're 2.38mm thick apparently
<zdykstra> I'm just getting up to speed with the state of everything, so I apologize if this has been discussed at length already. Is it expected that (eventually) virtualization support will be possible?
<erebion> Just calculated it: To Germany I'd pay ~630 euros, including forwarding via shipito.com and import taxes
<Jasper[m]> erebion: Pretty good
<erebion> I'd pay around three to four times as much for the 16 GB version from EU sellers
<Jasper[m]> They're kinda expensive here, I got lucky
<steev> it would be nice, but i won't hold my breath zdykstra
<Jasper[m]> zdykstra: From what I can tell, unless qcom updates the firmware or somebody finds a way to boot Linux using secure launch it won't happen.
<erebion> Why the hell are they so cheap in the US?
<erebion> Surely there must be a catch I'm missing
<zdykstra> it's a refurbished device
ldts_ has joined #aarch64-laptops
<zdykstra> though mine looked brand new
<zdykstra> bummer about virtualization, but it's not the end of the world
<erebion> Yeah, exactly, around here I'd pay 3 times as much for a refurbished device with 16 GB of RAM
<erebion> So how do I get 32 GB for that price? wtf
<Jasper[m]> zdykstra: I somewhat have hope that they will backport Gunyah at minimum, but yeah
<erebion> Just for the 5G modem it'd make sense for me to get one, as 5G coverage is far better than 4G, around here
<_[m]1> lol am I the only one that bought it new around here 😉
<steev> it's cheap because it's arm device, mostly
<_[m]1> damn so finally the samsung go 5 arrived, I remember someone had some notes aboutgetting this device working?

<erebion> It's cheap because it's US. They are really expensive around here.
