Yesterday I compiled and tried linux asahi-wip on a MacBook Air M2 running Debian, with the config taken from the current PKGBUILD on github, it does boot but I have no keyboard in initrd to unlock luks. Any ideas?
<chadmed>
how did you build the initrd
<chadmed>
also probably best to ask in #asahi-alt, where we discuss nonstandard setups
<ashi>
debian did that - I build and installed a deb
<chadmed>
and the issue persists across boots?
<ashi>
yep, and when booting 5.19 from grub it works.
<chadmed>
sounds like the HID modules arent being probed
<chadmed>
if you manage to get in to your root fs, check that the initramfs has all of these in it. if it doesnt, then the tooling for building one needs to be rejigged.
<ashi>
thanks, yes I can boot into 5.19 at any time and compare things.
<ashi>
USB Keyboard does not work in both kernels in initrd
<ashi>
Another observation: If I forcibly shot down 6.0 when in initrd, m1n1 fails to init NVMe on next reboot until I boot to macOS once. In 5.19 nothing like that happens if I do the same (focibly shutting down in initrd)
<ashi>
Anyway, I didnt want to get "end user support", I was just curious if someone immediately says "yes, known issue, next please" :P , if this is really about modules or probing I should be able to fix it myself :)
<chadmed>
i dont think anyones experienced that so far

ashi: About the nvme issue, I had once many months ago. Was unable to reproduce it. About they keyboard issue you're probably missing a module, with my kernel config also the keyboard comes up last even after x has started. moving to #asahi-alt

<Yes_This_is_Saeko[m]>
Sorry i keep asking questions but what package manager should i be using since multilib doesn't exisy
<Yes_This_is_Saeko[m]>
s/exisy/exist/
<j`ey>
pacman?
<j`ey>
but what are you actually trying to do?
<Yes_This_is_Saeko[m]>
I just wanna install packages like discord and steam
Ry_Darcy has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<chadmed>
steam's not gonna work because theres no 32-bit libraries and also these are arm machines
<chadmed>
and discord is likely the same, i dont think they provide binary packages for aarch64
<hell__>
you can probably use discord in a web browser
<chadmed>
yeah just checked, no aarch64 binary
thelounge7571340 has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<chadmed>
but the discord app on amd64 is an electron app (almost literally just chrome without an address bar) so the functionality in a web browser is identical
thelounge7571340 has joined #asahi
<Rayyan>
there are projects that just repackage the discord web app as an electron app directly
<tpw_rules>
i thought so, but that must not quite be up to date
