Using the minimal arm arch build, trying to setup gnome. If I start `gdm` I get greeted with a blank screen, and `gnome-shell --wayland`directly from the tty results in: `(EE) could not connect to wayland server`.
<Siilwyn[m]>
I probably missed a crucial step... First time installing arch, any ideas how to troubleshoot more than welcome :)

Siilwyn: Yes I know - this guy again. I wonder if you have a packaging problem or it it is some problem with the simpledrm implementation right now with the actual packages (As I told had something similar with actual packs on Debian). Is there someone who has the gnome running with actual packages arch or deb? Maybe `WAYLAND_DEBUG=1` can help for more info (not for me unfortunatelly...)
<Cy8aer[m]>
I am just looking around for wayland debugging info but it is not very helpful by now. What about `dmesg` because there I had real asahi messages looping around when starting gdm/gnome-session
<Cy8aer[m]>
(starting gnome is done by gnome-session, not gnome-shell)
<Cy8aer[m]>
With X11 I would have some tools to look for, with wayland I am also a bit two left handed...

<r0ni>
for wayland, need to edit/check /etc/gdm/custom.conf make sure "#waylandEnable=false" line exists (commented out) to use wayland display
<r0ni>
also I finally found a way into asahi using nbd-client and qemu-nbd utils from macos
<r0ni>
so now I can finally rid myself of arch once and for all (and probably mess it all up lol)

I enabled speakers on m1pro and in alsamixer controls are there but only woofer1 left and right works. woofer2 and tweeters doesn't give any sound though increase/decrease volume work

plain alsa, not pipewire or pulseaudio
<chadmed[m]>
like, at all?
<chadmed[m]>
because as has been said many times before theyre likely never going to work "properly" with plain alsa
<chadmed[m]>
but the drivers should output sound if you explicitly route to them with speaker-test
<mps>
chadmed[m]: no, speaker-test also doesn't work

strange that woofer1 works fine

yes

anything weird in dmesg? also the amps may have triggered that OCP thing that causes the drivers to drop out until you reboot next, its still a bit flaky imo

nothing

driver loads fine, all controls are in alsamixer, both woofer1 works fine, jack works fine

povik: `speaker-test -D hw:0,1 -c 6` works

but still get sound only on woofers 1
<povik>
well if you open the device for stereo, you are driving woofer1 left/right. that's how the driver is designed
<povik>
if you want to drive all speakers, you need an equalizer in userspace which will drive all 6 channels on the device
<povik>
-c 6 told speaker-test to use the 6 channels
<mps>
hm, will test with pulseaudio
<povik>
chadmed's configuration for pipewire is the only ready-to-go setup i know of
<povik>
although i guess it needs an update at this point...

uh, pulseaudio needs udev and I don't have it /o\

<axboe>
chadmed[m]: ok all good - just so easy for me to miss messages in here that I figured I'd check :)
<chadmed[m]>
no worries
<chadmed[m]>
i checked the actual config stuff and the FIRs with the jack and on both muxes and it all works as intended so its something deeper inside pipewire that doesnt like the new driver
<mps>
povik: I'm far out of knowledge of audio. but can confirm that speakers works on m1pro (though not as I expected but this is not important)

Siilwyn[m] only other thing I can think of, is you must deactivate sddm (or even just uninstall it). gnome will use wayland only thru gdm, starting it other ways will load x11

but it's not really working well for me so far, you might be better off just sticking to stereo for now. that should drive the woofers (I believe) only. which isn't perfect, but at least it gets you _something_

you shouldn't use the same settings, the m2 air has just 2 woofer and 2 tweeters. if you're unlucky you've just driven your tweeters with the settings from the 2nd woofer pair of the macbook pro 14"/16".

(yep am ljskernel on twitter) I think it defaults to 2.4MHz so likely that was a source of bluetooth issues, however I use a dongle for that now in any case, which exposes a sound card and has aptX adaptive, so bluetooth is not a priority for me any more
