what especially worries me is that if my data processing is messing with graphics, and that's due to overlapping memory or something like that, then maybe GUI updates are also messing with my processing and all my results would be corrupted :P

Hello I have a question. Will I be able to install Ashahi Linux on a system with macintosh version 13.0?

<rpmasiha>
I am asking this question as I have quite recently upgraded to the Operating System version 13.0. I had recently uninstalled Asahi Linux earlier due to storage issues, however I wish to install it once again. If anyone has indeed installed Macintosh Ventura, please inform me. Thank you.
<rpmasiha>
If anyone has the answer, do kindly inform me.

I notice graphics being slower with 6.1 kernel & DCP driver, is that expected?

Me too
<millenialhacker>
mps do you have also cpufreq driver loaded?
<jannau>
yes, it's expected (at least for wayland), dcp does proper framebuffer swaps and blocks until the previous fb reached vblank. since the compositor uses double buffering it can't start drawing the next frame
<millenialhacker>
jannau any workaround to make it faster for now?
<jannau>
I thought xorg wasn't doing that but except for quick tests I haven't looked at it recently
<millenialhacker>
I enabled "prefer lower latency" in KDE settings, improved it a little bit but still feels slow
<jannau>
get a faster GPU than llvmpipe
<jannau>
i.e. wait for lina's GPU driver
<millenialhacker>
:D essentially waits for Lina's work
<millenialhacker>
yeah, exactly
<mps>
millenialhacker: yes, I have it loaded and set to conservative governor
millenia_ has joined #asahi
<mps>
well, actually xorg is fine, except in some cases. when switching mpv to fullscreen it is slower and when switching between virtual screens (tags) in awesome wm
<jannau>
those cases need a full redraw but I guess it makes sense to look into if llvmpipe is the main factor limiting the render rate

another potential issue is that dcp has no vblank interrupt, to my understanding drm should emulate that towards userspace but there could be easily something wrong
