Hey guys, can I resize my asahi partition with original installation script? Originally allocated 50GB out of 230GB for it, but now I am looking to extend it to around 150GB since I use it almost exclusively. Last time I just started from wipe, since the script did not cooperate, but I don't want to lose my installation this time. Thanks in advance!

thats usually not enough, you will need to shrink macos, move both efi and data partitions backward (gparted should do it), then expand linux partition (use resize2fs)

hey am playing with the new suspend/resume support and seems that X gets into a bit of a state if you leave it asleep for a while, failing with '[ 8852.532] (EE) modeset(0): drmSetMaster failed: Device or resource busy' and needing a restart of X

am seeing 'systemd-udevd.service: Watchdog timeout (limit 3min)!', is possible udev gets killed because of some wakeup + clock looking wrong to systemd, which on resume means the drm device is not brought up properly/races somehow

Is there an easy way to look up my mac's serial number from asahi? $work is asking for it, but my dmidecode from amd64 world doesn't seem relivant here :)
<jn>
i'd expect it to appear somewhere in the devicetree, but i'm not sure
<jackhill>
jn: how can I print the devicetree? Or is it a code dive?
<waldi>
hmm, the macbooks got the serial number written on the underside
<waldi>
(yeah, maybe oldschool to just read)
whistlingoat has quit [Quit: My MacBook Air has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<jackhill>
j`ey: I don't see serial-number there, but I didn't know about /proc/device-tree so I'll have fun exploring
<j`ey>
hm, m1n1 seems to copy it there..
<jannau>
I think the m1n1 in the main asahi distro doesn't transfer the serial yet
<j`ey>
yes true, m1n1 in repo is 1.1.4, seems the serial copying was added in 1.1.5
<jackhill>
waldi: haha, that works! (fine print though)
thelounge7571340 has joined #asahi
<jannau>
the one in asahi-dev does. it will be updated soon-ish
<ljs>
I know I asked before, but is the thermal_zone0 being not-the-CPU (afaict) a known limitation?
thelounge7571340 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<j`ey>
I didn't know there was any drivers for thermal stuff at all yet
<j`ey>
(apart from the WIP by jeff)
<ljs>
there does seem to be one exposed, but it gives values that make me think it's system temp rather than CPU (I mean full load does nothing to really raise it), it does vary so presumably measuring something
<ljs>
I worry about whether the CPU gets thermal throttled _somehow_ at super hot temps or whether I risk melting :)
<jannau>
ljs: I think it's the battery temp
<j`ey>
ah that would make sense, we do have code for that
<j`ey>
(reading B0AT from SMC)
<jannau>
depending on the device there's a WIP hwmon driver
<jannau>
powermanagement/thermal throttling is done by the CPU and or SMC. no reports of melted CPUs or devices so far
<ljs>
ok nice, I did think there'd be something hardware enforcing that but paranoia kicks in when doing a big kernel build...
<jannau>
the kernel is not that large compared to chromium and nothing bad happens during compiling it either
<ljs>
yeah battery temp seems to align with vals I see, I'm on an m2 air which doesn't seem mega compatible with some of the wip stuff out there so can live without for time being
<ljs>
jannau: haha yeah chromium build is monstrous
<ljs>
wish goog would put out an aarch64 widevine

they’d kind want to design their entire thermal safety in such a way that nothing will melt even if all main cores are stuck in a busy loop
<sven>
On top of that there’s SMC and/or hardware that does a lot of thermal management and fan speed configuration, etc.
