<AlwaysLivid>
It's experimental and not ready for wide use yet, but you can run WinRAR!
<CatButts>
oh, so it's like a VM running WINE and a fraction of linux?
<AlwaysLivid>
Yeah, pretty much.
<AlwaysLivid>
It won't play your Steam games, obviously.
<CatButts>
like I run steam in winxp :p

No we don't, there is a wip recipe but there likely need to be changes to wine and haiku before it will run anything usefull
<BrunoSpr>
hi
<nephele[m]>
(wine wiki has an older article on that)
<AlwaysLivid>
nephele[m], wait, what are you referring to precisely?
<AlwaysLivid>
BrunoSpr, hello!
<nephele[m]>
to wine
<extrowerk>
keep in mind that wiki article was writte nbefore the introduction of package management, and it is extremely old
<extrowerk>
and outdated.
<extrowerk>
i would like to contact the wine guys to either mark the article as extremely outdated, or delete it.

Testing Haiku on two coreboot machines, the one with SeaBIOS MBR boots but not the other one with TianoCore UEFI/GPT. Boot loader sees Haiku install but then panics with 'did not find any boot partitions!'
<NicePics>
It's a chromebook so only has USB 3.0 ports and onboard eMMC.
<CatButts>
ah yeah, does boxedwine emulate the CPU in software, or does it do VM-speedup?

<CatButts>
my brother only really browses the Internet
<CatButts>
what is Haiku's browser like?
<CatButts>
overal stability supposedly good
<CatButts>
> some people use haiku as their main operating system
<AlwaysLivid>
The built-in browser is based on Apple's WebKit. It's not perfect, but it's pretty good, unless if you only watch YouTube or something.
<CatButts>
is it better than chrome v49?
<CatButts>
last XP version
<blabber>
Am I right in thinking that operating Haiku without a mouse doesn't really make sense?
<AlwaysLivid>
Look, that's up to you.
<AlwaysLivid>
Don't get me wrong, but it would probably be a good idea to virtualize Haiku and judge for yourself.
<AlwaysLivid>
(because most of your questions seem very subjective and I'm not sure how to answer them)
<CatButts>
ok, so virtualize before mashing my brother's winxp OS partition
<AlwaysLivid>
You can also try it on a USB drive, your files will persist and you'll be able to install Haiku (with your files) on a hard drive later on.
<CatButts>
to get an OS that doubles as daily driver for web browsing, and guinea pig for me
<AlwaysLivid>
We also have other browsers other than the built-in one, such as Otter Browser.
<CatButts>
oh, even better, does haiku have livecd?
<AlwaysLivid>
That's what I said, yeah, you can use it live.
<CatButts>
so I don't need to faff around with VM
<AlwaysLivid>
The files will persist unless if you burn Haiku on a DVD or something.
<CatButts>
then I am set
<AlwaysLivid>
If you think that Haiku is good enough, you'll be able to install it on your drive later without worrying about copying all your files over.
<CatButts>
aha
<CatButts>
last step, so I don't faff around with burning CDs
<CatButts>
liveusb?
<AlwaysLivid>
Yeah.
<CatButts>
good!
<AlwaysLivid>
I'd actually recommend that you use a USB.
<AlwaysLivid>
(Specifically because your files will persist.*

oh hey, I can run boxedwine in windows
<CatButts>
unfortunately, it runs piss slow
<CatButts>
so it must mean it uses software CPU
<CatButts>
unfortunate
