<Cacafuego> rennj Not the buildbot builds. I'd built a nightly from source and it panics pretty quickly with "did not find any boot partitions!". Was trying to figure out if this was likely to be my problem and I should troubleshoot, or maybe something broken in the branches at the moment.
<Begasus> bbl, finetuning and (re)building fpc_bin in the meantime ...
<nephele[x]> EFI?
<Cacafuego> It's a VM, but set to BIOS
<Cacafuego> Identical settings to my running beta2 Haiku VM
<Cacafuego> Plus it does actually at least get to the boot loader and etc - see the splash screen and obviously it's getting far enough to panic
<nephele[x]> hmm, maybe this? https://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/6558 have you opened a ticket?
<Cacafuego> No ticket opened - I'm so new I wanted to try to make sure this wasn't something stupid or even normal in the current nightlies
<nephele[x]> Nightlies should boot normally, assuming you followed the instructions, but it may depend on what specific env you used (e.g which VM)
<Cacafuego> Well, guess I figured it out, more or less. My beta2 VM has the HDD set to the default, a SCSI device. Changed the nightly VM to IDE and it boots fine now.
<Cacafuego> That's annoying (mostly because I didn't try it before)
<Cacafuego> Ok so on to the next problem =)
<Cacafuego> I'm trying to recompile VMwareAddons package to troubleshoot a problem. It's actually only a single component of the package - vmware_mouse, which gets installed as an input_server filter
<Cacafuego> But I'm confused about how I'd actually install that
<Cacafuego> Guess I can't modify /system/add-ons/input_server/filters directly - tells me it's read-only
<Cacafuego> I can build the full package I guess although apparently it's been broken on x86_64 for years so I have to figure that out
<Cacafuego> Should I be able to just update /system/add-ons/input_server/filters directly?

Diver has quit [Quit: Leaving.]

<AlwaysLivid> alternatively: git clone https://github.com/haiku/haiku --branch=r1beta3
<beaglejoe> I already have master. Anyway to do it without cloning the whole codebase again?
<AlwaysLivid> try git fetch --all, then use git checkout to select the branch you want: in this case, r1beta3
<AlwaysLivid> or git switch r1beta3
<AlwaysLivid> or you could use git fetch and only fetch the r1beta3 branch

<nephele[x]> Alwayslivid: are you the person to call for misc fixes to the site? :P
<AlwaysLivid> see: #haiku-promo :D
<AlwaysLivid> leave it there and someone will pick it up, likely me
<nephele[x]> promo?
<AlwaysLivid> 'promo' as in 'promotion'
<nephele[x]> how is the website related to promotion? confused
<AlwaysLivid> well, we are technically looking after it, so
<AlwaysLivid> even if it's a matter of technical documentation, it will be considerably helpful if every one of us were kept up to speed
<nephele[x]> Should probably open tickets, but feels silly for stuff that would take the same effort to fix it as putting it in a ticket..
<AlwaysLivid> which is why we're skipping through the whole thing by just allowing people to drop by and share a message the same way as you want to do to me right now :D
<AlwaysLivid> i think it'll be considerably faster and sort of more organized that way, the chat is also mirrored on telegram
<AlwaysLivid> so it will be read
<nephele[x]> uhh, i'm not joining any telegram rooms .-.
<AlwaysLivid> well, you aren't, it's on irc/xmpp
<nephele[x]> either it is mirrored or it isn't :)
<AlwaysLivid> noted
<nephele[x]> would be neater to just fix it myself, but getting anything on github is a huge hastle, so i'll just not bother for small stuff i guess
<AlwaysLivid> just tell me what the problem is and i'll pass it on i guess
<AlwaysLivid> alright
<nephele[x]> finally got the build issue sorted :)
<nephele[x]> for amd64
<AlwaysLivid> .............................. thought that was the problem
<AlwaysLivid> but yaay!
<nephele[x]> you maintain github?
<nephele[x]> no, the bug would be: https://www.haiku-os.org/guides/building/jam tjhis site mentions a fixed ticket as a bug in jam
<nephele[x]> also some colour issues for dark mode, but i'm going to fix those myself if possible
<AlwaysLivid> would be helpful, jt15s[m] took a shot at it a few days ago too
<nephele[x]> Well, I made the dark mode in the first plce
<nephele[m]> I have looked a bit at the PR, but there is some stuff i don't understand, like changing the key class to button and such
<nephele[m]> Also using black and white as new colors, while that doesn't really match the rest of the stuff, but maybe that is on me for not using css color variables for our stuff ?
<AlwaysLivid> I really have been trying to get the promotion team to adopt more open protocols, however.

<nephele[m]> I found an iOS XMPP client called Monal I'd like to try out, maybe that would be a nice recomendation assuming it works, I don't really see myself using telegram, whatsapp or anything like those anytime soon, but my main problem with contributing to the haiku website is more that it is on github, and thus reviewing becomes really infeasible for me :P
<AlwaysLivid> We also mirror with XMPP, obviously.
<AlwaysLivid> But yeah, I don't think that Telegram is as bad as WhatsApp. definitely not perfect though
<nephele[m]> Indeed, telegram is definetely worse
<AlwaysLivid> Definitely worse than WhatsApp?
<nephele[m]> Yes
<ritz[m]> Hey everyone I have a PR (GSoC progress update blog) pending from past 3 days it would be nice if someone merged it https://github.com/haiku/website/pull/525
