zdykstra, kind of suprised that someone is working on ffmpegGUI after all this time?
<zdykstra>
yes

Haiku has a MediaConverter that has never really worked that well, so this is a welcome effort from BlueSky76

zdykstra, Have you ever thought about working on it again yourself?
<zdykstra>
I haven't touched C++ in ages and ages, so I couldn't contribute much - and it seems like it's in good hands now :)
<Vidrep_64>
It's good that HaikuArchives exists to preserve all the open sourced BeOS/Haiku apps. waddlesplash's idea if I remember correctly
<waddlesplash>
yes
<waddlesplash>
one of my first big contributions to the Haiku ecosystem way back in 2013 or so
<Vidrep_64>
It's hard to believe that it was long ago

Will there be an effort by the Haiku devs at some point to address the functionality of some of the apps included with the base Haiku install? eg. TV and Media Converter come to mind

The TV app could one day have the ability to play a video streaming service such as Pluto TV or Samsung TV Plus
<PulkoMandy>
TV is designed for TV tuners and nothing else, for streaming you're probably better off using MediaPlayer in some way
<PulkoMandy>
Media Converter, I wish I could understand what's going on, I think the app itself is mostly fine but the whole encoding part of the media kit is broken
<PulkoMandy>
and everyone who writes an app decides to ignore that and use ffmpeg directly, so no one works on it and it remains broken
<Vidrep_64>
Maybe time for a decision on what direction to go? MediaKit or ffmpeg
<Vidrep_64>
We have the foundation in MediaPlayer for streaming already. I use it mostly for podcasts and streaming radio stations (BePodder and StreamRadio)
<Vidrep_64>
It's generally not too bad
<Vidrep_64>
PulkoMandy, thanks for responding
<Vidrep_64>
Beta 4 will be a good step up from Beta 3. Lot's of improvements

"PulkoMandy, you're probably better off using MediaPlayer in some way". Hopefully, one day I won't need to boot Linux to use Kodi

os x + mac book => only 4 rich people ... not good ;D

<Skipp_OSX>
yeah but mac os x was such a revolution in terms of combining some of the best aspects of Linux and Windows into one that it was and is irresistible to those who can afford the entrance fee into the walled garden.

<matt3>
yes, me too Skipp_OSX ... so i tried a powerbook g4 with os x from 10.2 to 10.4
<Skipp_OSX>
ooooo tibook pretty fancy, do you remember how much vram the machine had?
<matt3>
?! maybe 1 G
<Skipp_OSX>
not possible
<Skipp_OSX>
vram video ram, not main memory
<matt3>
after it was old => debian ppc ... ubuntu ppc
<matt3>
ah, vram ... bohh
<matt3>
512 mb ?
<waddlesplash>
bbjimmy: yes, ABI breaks for b4 have started. a bit of pain on the nightlies the next few days while we work on that
<Skipp_OSX>
somewhere between 16mb and 64mb assuming you were running a ti book that was contemporaneous to 10.2
frkzoid has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<Skipp_OSX>
basically I ask because you needed 64mb of vram to run quartz 3d and that was needed to have a good experience on MacOS X
