Henlo! Is there by chance a port of Firefox or Chromium, either released or in progress? None of the Haiku-native web browsers will load Twitch.tv X3

The closest is Falkon, which uses QtWebEngine.
<win8linux[m]>
QtWebEngine is based on Blink, the web engine that Chromium uses.
<Halian|Haiku>
Ah
<Halian|Haiku>
Unfortunately Falkon isn't working that well for me :

Good question! I haven't had success with the AMD Radeon RX 580 in my desktop, Fireblade; I always have to use the fallback drivers
<BarmenduChakraborty[m]>
GPU's have performance based on OS?
<BarmenduChakraborty[m]>
I did not know that

BarmenduChakraborty[m]: it mainly revolves around the presence or absence of good drivers (or drivers at all)
<BarmenduChakraborty[m]>
Okayy.... that makes sense
<da_snowbird>
I have an AMD card as well and I also have to use the vesa driver, wasn't sure if there was a preferred card that works well with the driver.
<da_snowbird>
with its own driver*
<Halian|Haiku>
It'd help if video cards weren't $$$$$ >_>
<da_snowbird>
definitely big money right now. I've got enough saved I think I'll snag a decent used Lenovo ThinkCentre or something and slap a graphics card in it. Would like to add a sound card too, just for the sake of spending money on nostalgia since I'm sure its not going to be much better than onboard audio
<Halian|Haiku>
NIce
<Halian|Haiku>
I'm running on a ThinkPad X120e right now. I didn't think I was capable of liking a smol laptop this much
<da_snowbird>
oh I like that. I have a x230 that needs some love. needs a new fan, battery, and A/C adaptor. I'll probably move a haiku install over to it if and when I acquire those things.
<Halian|Haiku>
Oof :(
<Halian|Haiku>
Definitely slap an SSD in it
<da_snowbird>
got it for us$20 a couple years back, so it wasn't a bad deal honestly
<Halian|Haiku>
Nice
<Halian|Haiku>
I got this for $30 off a friend
<da_snowbird>
good buy!
<Halian|Haiku>
:D thanks

you can't beat a cheap thinkpad

I want to get a T420 at some point, also one with a butterfly keyboard
<da_snowbird>
love the butterfly keyboard one
<da_snowbird>
I am excited for the aarch64 port to reach maturity, too, since I also have a m1 air I'd like to run haiku natively on one day
<Halian|Haiku>
:O hell yeah
<Halian|Haiku>
Asahi Haiku :3
<da_snowbird>
yeah! exactly. asahi has made such great strides and openbsd seems to be making progress on some work on supporting apple silicon as well so there might be a way to re-purpose some of their drivers
<Halian|Haiku>
You love to see it
<Halian|Haiku>
OpenBSD is another one I've struggled to get working on real hardware, alas (also NetBSD)
<da_snowbird>
I have better luck with openbsd than netbsd, but if I was using an obscure arch that linux didn't support I feel like netbsd would be the best bet. we have an ancient vax languishing away in storage at work I've always wanted to tinker with and see if I could get netbsd on it for fun
x10z has joined #haiku
<Halian|Haiku>
VAX ;o
<Halian|Haiku>
I've always wanted to get a VAX or properly tinker with VMS, but the hobbyist stuff doesn't seem to include a GUI, and VSI isn't too hot on the hobbyist program
<Halian|Haiku>
AFAIK NetBSD is the only OS still supporting the VAX
<da_snowbird>
yeah an old microvax that my boss' dad used to run some type of telephone-based service in the late 80s/early 90s. I don't have much VMS experience but netbsd would definitely be some of the only modern game in town for it
<Halian|Haiku>
Sweet
<Halian|Haiku>
I see plenty of desktop VAXen on eBay but not so much the displays or keyboards :\
<da_snowbird>
those'll likely be the kicker, since they're more 'wear items' than the vax itself. for 99% of what I'd do with it a serial console would get it done.
<Halian|Haiku>
Yep, and the VAX isn't compatible with later industry standards like VGA or PS/2
<da_snowbird>
there's a lot of new hobbyist hardware being built for retro systems, wouldn't be shocked if something implementing newer standards came out for VAX, just don't see it being a large run since theres such a limited amount of machines out there
<B2IA>
(KP3FT) Hi all, I was wondering if 32-bit Haiku hpkg's can install and run in a 64-bit Haiku system.
humdinger has joined #haiku
<bbjimmy>
KP3FT no, a 64bit install needs 64bit compiled binaries.
<B2IA>
(KP3FT) ok, thanks

The Haiku user guide should mention that; it only says that PostScript and TrueType fonts are supported
<humdinger>
I'll make a note. Since we're so close to the beta4 release, I don't want to invalidate translations just yet.
<Halian|Haiku>
Alright
<Halian|Haiku>
They go in the `otfonts` subdirectory
<humdinger>
yes. though I'm not even sure they need to be in a subfolder or if not just anything under data/fonts/ is scanned. But it keeps things tidy :)
