<AlienSoldier>
OscarL you can trigger this by moving some apps from a workspace to another or launching in a workspace and then moving to other workspace before the app start to display. Media player VU metter is the first i remembered encountering.
<AlienSoldier>
When it start to overwrite workspace, i need to go into where the app is and then it stop, i just need to wipe the garbage with a window and all is fien again.
<OscarL>
I'll keep an eye for it. I move apps around workspaces quite a lot, but I don't use MediaPlayer much.
<AlienSoldier>
this happen a lot for things that have moving widget
<OscarL>
is there a ticket open on dev.haiku-os.org for it already?
<AlienSoldier>
surely, it is one of the oldest haiku bug
<AlienSoldier>
it date from when stippi created the VU meter in mediaplayer at least
<AlienSoldier>
very easy bug to recreate
<OscarL>
then I'm just lucky I haven seen it then (maybe my PC is too slow to trigger it?)
<BrunoSpr>
ok cu tomorrow
<OscarL>
later BrunoSpr.

OscarL by the way, it does not happen if you move the app between workspace by pressing the tab and using the F keys to teleport them, you have to drag them in the workspace app
<AlienSoldier>
*with the workspace app
<AlienSoldier>
it does it on all my PC
<OscarL>
that's the only method I use actually... but using the workspace that lives on the Deskbar.
x10z has quit [Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<OscarL>
(by dragging, I mean)
<AlienSoldier>
That is funny, the workspace app (in a window) doe it also
<AlienSoldier>
OscarL one more thing, the media in mediaplayer need to be running (it is fine if on pause as there is no movement)
<OscarL>
ok. I'll test that on the TC0 image when testing the 2 old computers I have :-)
<OscarL>
AlienSoldier: BTW... is my memory failing me or did you had written a parallel port driver somewhere around 2000/2002?
<AlienSoldier>
yes
<OscarL>
does it works with Haiku? :-D
<AlienSoldier>
It does not, i will eventually need a new one
<OscarL>
I have PySerial, but I would like to have PyParallel to play too :-D
<OscarL>
oh, I see.
<AlienSoldier>
i was using it to make all kind of electronic interface back then
<OscarL>
AlienDriver or something, right?
<AlienSoldier>
i was controling my Sony VCR from beos with SONY S link protocol
<AlienSoldier>
mmu_man did help me a lot with this driver back then
<OscarL>

goes out to get it :-)
<B2IA>
(BiPolar) Muahahaha! I'm here to steal that aliendriver1.1.zip! :-P
<OscarL>
Used to run it with "Stamina & Charisma"... I would connect to dial up... open as many pages as I could in as little time as I could... hang up... and then browse/read offline :-D
<OscarL>
Stamina and Charisma, one was a caching proxy, the other one a "let's mirror this website" thing.

<Molnija>
I don't think there is
<waddlesplash>
there is
<waddlesplash>
the root user is called "user" and the GUI runs as it
<waddlesplash>
you can however create other users and SSH into them at least
<waddlesplash>
the kernel hasn't been fully audited for privilege checks though
<linuxmaster>
hm... well, is it UEFI bootable?
<waddlesplash>
yes
<waddlesplash>
both my current bare metal installs are via EFI
<linuxmaster>
waddlesplash: I would like to share rights for security reasons (for kids).... It would be a great experiment...
<waddlesplash>
well right now there's no way to run the gui as non-root unfortunately
<linuxmaster>
waddlesplash: that's great
<waddlesplash>
there was some work on this but nobody has really paid much attention to it
<waddlesplash>
it probably requires a very small number of fixes but nobody has spent time on it
<waddlesplash>
likely when/if I get around to working on display_server + hardware acceleration I will take a look at that

hi OscarL ! :)
<OscarL>
Hola to all.
<OscarL>
Hey there Begasus :-)
<OscarL>
I just came here to ask you.... have you tried enabling "bios_patching" on the vesa settings file?
<Begasus>
OscarL, did you do your run on the beta4 test?
<OscarL>
Might help with that resolution problem you were having.
<Begasus>
deppends on which one you mean, the one for 15.5" screen?
<Begasus>
and no haven't checked there
<OscarL>
I have both 64 and 32 bits installs repos configured to follow r1beta4.
<Begasus>
on nightly?
<OscarL>
Begasus: This one: "screenmode 1366x768 (15.5") not available with safe mode (or in VESA)"
<OscarL>
Begasus: no, I switched my installs from nightly to r1beta4. now both up to "+22" rev.
<OscarL>
was there any problems with some of the PRs?
<Begasus>
don't think so?
<Begasus>
so far that could be merged is done
<OscarL>
Oh, I thouth you asked this: " OscarL, did you do your run on the beta4 test?" because maybe I had screwed up something :-D
<Begasus>
hmm, where do I find the vesa settings file? ;)
<Begasus>
no, meant that the iso's are available for testing now
<OscarL>
settings/kernel/vesa
<Begasus>
I'm staying on nightly for now, checked 4 laptops here
<OscarL>
I've tested the TC0 32 bits ISO on my main PC and on my old Atom based netbook.
<OscarL>
Works well so far. Will collect as much info as I can, and only then fill up the surveys.

<OscarL>
I only have one pendrive to test :-(
<Begasus>
I'm not seeing the settings file here (booted from usb)
<OscarL>
You might have to create it.
<OscarL>
Booting into VESA, and using the Screen preflet to set a resolution should also create it, IIRC.
<Begasus>
let me check
<Begasus>
nope
<OscarL>
regarding the iso testing... I have some old motherboards/cpus lying around that I would also like to test (to add more hardware reports), but it will take me quite some time to setup each one to collect the info :-)
<OscarL>
Bummer.
<Begasus>
ah lol, it's in ~/config/settings/kernel/drivers :)

<OscarL>
Begasus: try forcing it with both "bios_patching true" and "mode 1366 768 32" perhaps?
<Begasus>
OscarL, any perticular order there?
<OscarL>
Should not matter. I remember it worked for me putting bios_patching second, but next try I'll put it first, just to make sure.
<OscarL>
you can then try the syslog, to see if it logged something error there, like: "KERN: vesa: video mode patching failed!"
<Begasus>
had been searching through the tickets, but got lost there :)
<OscarL>
I had a motherboard that have me problems with its integrated VUA Chrome9 integrated graphics (on every OS... Haiku was the one that worked best)... after a BIOS update... it gained a 1440x900 resolution that works VERY well with Haiku and even Linux.
mmu_man has joined #haiku
<OscarL>
Might worth a try to see if there's a BIOS update for that machine? (looooong shot but...)
<OscarL>
Regarding the "prixoxy" test I was doing... managed to make it start and show up its confiig in Web+... but it seems I hit a Web+ bug where it disables its proxy settings upon opening a new tab... which complicates testing said proxy quite a lot indeed :-D
<OscarL>
(still want to double and triple check before opening a ticket for that)
<Begasus>
amd atombios ... not fond of flashing bios :)
<OscarL>
:-(
<Begasus>
in the bios: vga bios version not found
<OscarL>
