<waddlesplash>
some of the base IP routing stuff probably deserves an audit, yes
<waddlesplash>
I know a bunch about the base network drivers as I'm the maintainer of the freebsd and openbsd driver ports
<waddlesplash>
but the layers above that I don't really know much. the code looks pretty clean and sane but whether it behaves properly is another matter of course
<qwilk>
using Hyper-V legacy network adapter DECchip 21140 [FasterNet]
<qwilk>
right
<qwilk>
Any suggestions wrt how to trace this further? Would file a ticket if I could be more specific, but it's pretty vague still...
<qwilk>
...also suggestions wrt logs, or any additional network logging capabilities would be helpful perhaps
<waddlesplash>
that probably depends on a hyperv socket bus, no?
<waddlesplash>
like virtio has its own bus system with devices attached below it
<waddlesplash>
I don't have a way to port bus drivers from freebsd at the moment, sorry
<waddlesplash>
so only USB or PCI devices are currently supported
<qwilk>
no worries, just googling around a bit for clues :)
<waddlesplash>
multicast was theoretically fixed and enabled sometime last year
<qwilk>
speaking of which, if I would buy a network adapter specifically for Haiku (bare metal or virtual passthrough), which one should I buy?
<waddlesplash>
not sure what version you are using
<waddlesplash>
basically anything from Intel
<qwilk>
let me check
<qwilk>
56595 nightly
<waddlesplash>
all the Intel chips of any generation work fine, ethernet that is. we have all freebsd latest drivers for that
<qwilk>
ok
<waddlesplash>
if you want WiFi then also Intel is still the best bet, any card supported by FreeBSD or OpenBSD
<waddlesplash>
I don't know any pc motherboard Ethernet that we don't support though
<waddlesplash>
it's only server grade cards that you might have to ask about, as we didn't import all the ones from freebsd necessarily
<waddlesplash>
though we can if there was some legitimate reason to do so
<qwilk>
got a not-plugged-in Realtek PCIe GbE wired and a Netgear A6150 WiFi USB 2.0 atm
<waddlesplash>
Netgear, hmm, can't remember what their USB wifi chips were
<waddlesplash>
it might be Ralink, which we have a driver for but doesn't work properly...
<waddlesplash>
the realtek gbe should work finr
<waddlesplash>
fine
<qwilk>
me neither, iirc the older N300 was supported last time i looked
<waddlesplash>
ah, then it's likely also realtek
<waddlesplash>
the realtek wifi chips are mostly supported
<waddlesplash>
unfortunately the freebsd driver doesn't support 802.11ac mode for them though
<waddlesplash>
you're stuck with 80211n max
<qwilk>
ok
<waddlesplash>
FreeBSD has really fallen off the bandwagon when it comes to WiFi, hence why we're going with some OpenBSD drivers now
<qwilk>
ah didn't know that, interesting
<qwilk>
compatible with your existing FreeBSD underpinnings?
<qwilk>
(I have zero experience with OpenBSD)
<qwilk>
btw, "multicast was theoretically fixed and enabled sometime last year" ...any thoughts on how to trace further? (I'm re-new to Haiku since a while back but quite rusty)
<qwilk>
short version I am testing a Node.js based application/server that's been verified on Raspbian/Linux/Windows also on Haiku with the latest node.js 16.11.1 from HaikuDepot
<qwilk>
some of the backend modules use mDNS extensively
<qwilk>
node.js doesn't complain at all though, so hence trying to dig into the networking nitty gritty
qwilk is now known as xoblite
<xoblite>
there, my other persona, as used on GitHub... ;)
<xoblite>
@waddlesplash are you still there or should I call it a day? :) (it's 1.40 AM here)
<xoblite>
...will try to check in tomorrow instead. Good night all :)

Tried to build VBox Guest Additions (7.0.2)... managed to "massage" the >100KB patchset from older version to apply on the newer one. Build failed with some bizarre error message that I spent too much time trying to understand.
<OscarL>
Seems it needs a newer "kbuild" / "kmk" version than the provided on HaikuPorts... Ok... I went there... until GCC and Haiku crashed a couple of times while trying to update that recipe. :-(

Hit some errror when building after a clean boot.... hit another weird error... lots of googling later... found some fix... from a Haiku developer! :-D

And now... the build for "kbuild" seemed to go just fine... until it, apparently, tries to rebuild itself, (some for of bootstrap, I guess), and now it is complaining about some missing header :-(
<OscarL>
These things make appreciate Begasus a lot more :-D
<OscarL>
Today... I concede defeat, and just logout. Take care, everyone!
<OscarL>
It took me quite a while to get those patchsets to apply cleanly again, so... I better share at least that. Even if I didn't managed to actually build :-(
<OscarL>
NOW I'm out. Best wishes to everyone.

Working on our engine a lot lately, currently drag and drop from file browser into filepanels :)
<andreasdr[m]>
Work. Work. Work.
<Begasus>
;)
<andreasdr[m]>
Does GLFW have already drag and drop? What I mean is internal drag and dropping, but in future I need also drag and drop from external apps to our engine editor.
<andreasdr[m]>
I know it has.
<Begasus>
No idea
<andreasdr[m]>
But last time I checked GLFW was lacking support for drag and drop and also copy and paste and setting icon was also not working. Work Work Work.

In Haiku build Wget2 with (nice to see it mentioned at gitlab) :)
<mmu_man>
why is it they reinvented the wheel when they could just have made an MPD frontend btw?
<extrowerk>
mmu_man: thanks for the link, but nowadays i am always out of time, i work from 6 to 17 (most fo that are meetings) and have no power to sit before the computer more than whats necessary.
<extrowerk>
so i probably won't do that, even if i would like to.
<mmu_man>
well I have more time but I spend it mostly helping up at the fablab

music player watcher ... like watchdog

Begasus: portaudioo port was updated recently now it supports playback and recording. Sadly Musikcube doesn't support that either. Nor SDL. But sndio, aiso, coreaudio and stuff like that.
<Begasus>
bugger :/
