<digitalcircuit>
Current theory: I've got an incomplete backport of the CPU governor related changes.
<digitalcircuit>
(If I get another reboot, I'll post to the mailing list to ask Ansuel if there's any other advised backports.)

<slh>
the original PR has been merged into master a few hours ago
<slh>
personally I've seen spurious reboots on multiple targets (lantiq and ath79 as well), so I'm not so sure it's ipq806x specific
<digitalcircuit>
slh: Yeah, it was funny to see that merged right as I was switching to testing kernel 5.10 instead of 5.4 (5.4 checked out okay, thankfully). It meant there was no need to test 5.10 :D
<digitalcircuit>
The thing about this is it's something I can trigger on demand.. even if it takes 7+ hours to trigger sometime with a convoluted test case (Deja Dup SFTP backup via OpenSSH).
<digitalcircuit>
Now that I'm back on 21.02 where the stress-ng package build isn't broken, I might look more into that.
<digitalcircuit>
And this was fine in 19.07, and it's fine on master, and it's fine on 21.02 with just the first commit in that GitHub compare link. I'm suspecting I may have missed something regarding voltages, perhaps.
<digitalcircuit>
(The DTSI changes)
Rentong has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<digitalcircuit>
Asides from a mailing list post, diffing between master and 21.02+backports seems like my next goal. I can also try a build that drops the DTSI changes but keeps the 1.4 GHz cache stuff (if it even can be backported without the earlier DTSI changes).
<slh>
at the moment my nbg6817 does ~13 days, before rebooting unexpectedly, but my totally different bthub5 does the same
<slh>
or rather, the bthub5 doesn't even last that long
<slh>
ARMv7 vs mipsbe
<digitalcircuit>
Huh. Around 13 days is close to what I was getting on 19.07. I wouldn't mind random reboots if they didn't always "randomly" happen during a SFTP->USB drive backup (requiring manual intervention) :)
<digitalcircuit>
I'll keep exploring and testing. There's got to be something I'm overlooking...

if a pull request was closed due to inactivity, is it possible to re-open ? I have started work on https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/pull/3293 again, due to the issues I was having originally seem to be caused by a bad flash "changes of it being picked up eventually are small even if those are fixed" - what does that mean ?

karlp: one thing on that device, is that the boot slot changes from primary to secondary (and back) each time you hit the reset button, there doesn't seem to be a uboot variable that you can set for it (I will have to do a diff on the uboot env each time to see if something is written to nand)
<Tusker>
if there is only a hardware way of switching the boot slot, then we can't really do a+b slots with sysupgrade, so should we always write over both slots each upgrade ?
<Tusker>
ldir: i thought you were talking about someone that was really good at magic numbers or checksums... and got hopeful for a second
<karlp>
I am absolutely no expert, but I really don't think overwriting both slots on sysupgrade sounds like a very good idea.
<Tusker>
OK, nevermind, it doesn't seem to switch back to boot image 1 no matter how many times I hit the reset button, only goes from 1 to 0... *shrug* I'll just leave it as a note in the install notes that the user might need to switch it once

PaulFertser: sorry, went out before your reply. It has an autogen.sh ... actually it seems pretty complicated to build. ntopng tries to download libnDPI by itself, and then fails to configure that dep correctly. I am reading some stuff about build variables ...

ntopng unfortunately doesnt have an available package. I saw 2 possibilities: run it containerized (but I did have some issues with dockerd and missing kernel options on cgroups etc...), or to create the package from scratch (which has many dependencies, almost all of them already packaged for openwrt).

Power Mac G5's too. Pet peeve of mine.
<rsalvaterra>
I always wanted to use mine completely headless, but alas…
<ldir>
if I'm running the office in power saving mode then the shared monitor doesn't get power.

rsalvaterra: are you sure you're not English. You write English.

philipp64: PC Engines desperately needs a new lineup with decent CPUs.
<philipp64>
I'm using one now... an APU4. works well enough. I can do AES256-GCM16 as fast as my GPON connection goes...

okay, so what's your soup of choice?
<stintel>
oh if it's SFP it's useless to me, I have an apu2 now
<stintel>
rsalvaterra: fingers crossed it gets accepted upstream before the next LTS kernel
<philipp64>
stintel: if you have a campus with dark fiber between buildings, the apu6 might be handy there for a one-box solution... at least for the spokes... for the hub you'd obviously need something with multiple ports.
<rsalvaterra>
stintel: Don't count on it… The LSF/MM/BPF conference with be from 6 to 8 December, IIRC… and the next LTS kernel will be the last one of the year (if gregkh doesn't change the criteria until then).
<zorun>
yeah I have some applications where this SFP would be nice (especially because it's in addition to the 3 existing ports of the APU2)
<zorun>
currently I terminate the fiber on a SFP on a switch and send it through one of the 3 Intel NICs, but it adds a SPOF and consumes 2 switch ports
<rsalvaterra>
stintel: And I want bcachefs on a RAID, so… I need erasure coding working and stable. :)
<stintel>
yeah for now I'm doing replicas=2
<stintel>
but once this fs is full and I add 2 more 12TB drives ...
<stintel>
I'd like to be able to use EC too

<blocktrron>
can someone explain to me why we should move uqmi to packages?
<blocktrron>
Let's move mac80211 also, as not every board has wireless?
<blocktrron>
I see we've had (and still have) a lot of packages which make more sense from a maintainability perspective to take care of them in packages, but moving a core dependency of multiple boards to packages is a rationale i can't understand
<rmilecki>
so far I thought that if package is part of default image for any device = keep it in main repo
<rmilecki>
packages not included in any device by default -> packages repo
<greearb>
hauke, you happen to have any patches that makes the backports package able to create backports against a 5.13 kernel?
