<akaWolf0>
with Mesa 23.1.0 is there no need to use custom build on Arch?
<akaWolf0>
clover[m]: you should know =)
<akaWolf0>
steev: are there some important patches which are in your branch on top of jhovold's?
<akaWolf0>
I've just finished reading channel logs for a few weeks, it's nice to see there is support for video decoder venus.

<akaWolf0>
how did you check it for work?
<HdkR>
akaWolf0: Everything for a690 is in 23.1.0
<quinine>
<akaWolf0> "I've just finished reading..." <- you can call it via v4l2. I simply checked and it works.
<HdkR>
I'm still greedy and want vaapi support :)

<HdkR> "I'm still greedy and want..." <- I've started, but I played TOTK 30h this weekend.
<HdkR>
That'll help these closed source applications that only use vaapi once available
<quinine>
and open source applications using only vaapi :)
<HdkR>
I know an argument for those is that since it is open source, just implement v4l2 support. Which hurts
<HdkR>
Closed-source games don't have that luxury
<quinine>
few applications use v4l2 directly, implementing it is a pain.
<HdkR>
Of course, non-ARM world doesn't give a flip about v4l2
<quinine>
Especially most desktop applications will not use v4l2, because basically only arm devices will support v4l2.

HdkR: Yes
<HdkR>
Which is why these emulated games also don't give a flip about v4l2 :P

So quininer, for example chromium and Firefox can't make use of venus video acceleration until libva-v4l2-driver is ready?
<quinine>
clover[m]: If chromium has v4l2 build flags enabled, I think it will work, but firefox only supports vaapi.

steev: I see you put a new version of lenove-x13s-6.3.y on guthub bevor 11 hours. Please, can you say to me what's new?
<steev>
stuff and things
<steev>
no, uhh, let me look
<HdkR>
My favourite
<steev>
because i've slept since i pushed
<agl7>
ok it was 1:00 AM in the morning at you timezone, or?
<steev>
i dropped my make it hotter patch, people were complaining about the heat; v3 of bamse's orientation switching patch set, it's based on 6.3.2
<steev>
i don't remember what time it was when i pushed, maybe?
<agl7>
steev: Ok I have get it and I will produce a binary of the kernel for the Lenove-x13s and test it. I give you a feedback!
<agl7>
steev: I also have a Galaxy Book S with the SoC '8cx Gen1'. Is your kernel also for this SoC? If so, what do I need to select for the Galaxy Book S?
<steev>
no
<agl7>
steev: Have you heard anywhere if there is an install ISO for the Galaxy Book S with the SC180X SoC?
<steev>
i have not
<agl7>
steev: OK, then I will ask Google. I think I will find something.
<steev>
i don't have all the answers, i only know the devices i have, which ain't much
<agl7>
No problem
<agl7>
:-)
<Bioxvirizm-x13s[m]>
steev: What to choose: laptop_defconfig or johan_defconfig or defconfig for kernel compilation first?
<steev>
what do you mean first?
<steev>
defconfig is the kernel defconfig, johan is jhovold's defconfig that is pretty much just x13s support, and laptop is closest to a distro defconfig
<Bioxvirizm-x13s[m]>
translator, please excuse me. Before compiling which file of 3 should be used.
<steev>
whichever you prefer to use
hightower3 has joined #aarch64-laptops

i personally use the laptop one
<Bioxvirizm-x13s[m]>
laptop_defconfig?
<steev>
yes

thx

steev: FWIW I haven't migrated to 6.3 yet (am still using my patched 5.19) because I have been busy to tinker with it... I tried distro_defconfig, but the resulting kernel is... not quite optimal
<gwolf>
I get several video quirks (that is, much slower video, screen sometimes not coming up, etc), and... well, haven't had time to play further...
<steev>
gwolf: hm
<steev>
i haven't saved the distro_defconfig there in a while
