<Xyaon> With a bit of trial and error I managed to get trough half of the systemd init process on the ideapad 4g, but then the screen turns black. I have already had to disabled the gpu in the dts to get here, and the last logs displayed on the screen don't really give me any idea of what went wrong. The laptop stays on just with a blank screen. Is there any way of getting the actual error logs? Would it log for longer to a usb serial adapter?

<Xyaon> I got the ideapad 4g to fully boot with working keyboard and mouse, and I'm now trying to add uart and i2c busses that are working in windows to the device tree. How do I know what GPIO pins are needed for a specific i2c bus? I can't find anything in the acpi tables that would help.

<robclark> adding this to kernel cmdline might help keep the screen on, if using efifb: clk_ignore_unused pd_ignore_unused
<Xyaon> The issue was the gpu, something isn't right with the firmware or the dts. With it turned off, it works fine with fb

<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> How is support for the X13s planned to land in the distributions, for example Ubuntu or Debian?
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> With the Ubuntu Concept Team iso there is a PPA, so that gets used for development and then required changes get upstreamed to the kernel and the other packages, I assume?
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> Assuming everything works at some point, what's next? Waiting for a few months for everything to land in the next stable release of Ubuntu/Debian/whatever?
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> Also, any up to date info on what is expected to work with that iso and what isn't and how useful info for the devs working on the device can be delivered?

<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> @juergh Just noticed your message from last week. It does indeed all seem to work correctly when using a newer version of ubuntu-concept-x13s, just tried it after coming back from Chaos Camp. Wifi seems stable now, graphics works, battery indicator shows percentage, the only issue I still notice is the audio devices not showing up, but otherwise it does everything I'd need my main machine to do. Maybe 2024 will be the
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> year of Linux on ARM laptops? :)
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> Haven't looked at 5G yet, but I assume that's a whole other level of work and will not happen anytime soon..?
<clover[m]> 5G working just fine here on arch
<clover[m]> you just need to do the FCC unlock with modem manager
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> The symlink?
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> Or what do you mean
<clover[m]> but wwan should be enabled in the recent x13s kernels
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> ?
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> What I need to look for in lsusb or lspci?
<clover[m]> 0004:01:00.0 Wireless controller [0d40]: Foxconn International, Inc. Device e0c3
<clover[m]> i think its that one
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> Oh, it seems to be disabled in the BIOS/EFI/whatever it is called
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> Now it gets detected, the Gnome stuff does not show me any option to add it... I'm only using Gnome so far as I haven't uninstalled it for i3 yet, lol
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> Modem Manager does not find the 5G modem
<clover[m]> i put a section in my wiki about modem: https://github.com/ironrobin/archiso-x13s/wiki/Feature-Support#wwan--5g
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> "Ensure WWAN is enabled in the kernel config" - any specific kernel parameter I should look for?
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> Seems to be set on the Ubuntu Concept PPA.
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> Do I need to insert a SIM card to be able to configure the modem? So far I have not inserted it as I wanted to do that after configuring it. .D
<clover[m]> idk, i use a sim card with my machine. i dont think you are going to have much luck if you don't have a sim card lol
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> Just wanted it to recognise the device and allow me to configure it before finding a sim somewhere
<robclark> might support eSIM? Not sure what the sw support for that is like in linux. But AFAIU CrOS modemmanager as well so I guess it should be supported
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> I think it can support eSIM, but last week I researched eSIM and Linux and could not find anything, so I doubt it would work yet.
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> nmcli does not detect the modem, huh
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> OK, reboot was necessary apparently. Tried restarting network-manager and modem-manager, but apparently something else had to be restarted as well
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> Modem Manager (mmcli -m 0) shows that it tried to use an eSIM without a profile
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> So there has to be a way to switch to the physical SIM
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> mm-cli -m 0 --set-primary-sim-slot 1
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> That was way too easy

<clover[m]> that loooks like the output i'd get that before correctly doing the FCC unlock
<clover[m]> s/that//
<_[m]1> kernel 6.5.0 in ubuntu mantis and could boot it yay
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> I did the FCC unlock stuf
<erebionCCCamp232142[m]> f
<_[m]1> also the basic setup of ironrobin works with btrfs, maybe I'll try fde again without /boot
<_[m]1> there was one grub option that I hadn't configured before though mm
<clover[m]> im kinda regretting btrfs, it seems like i have to run fsck more often now.
<gwolf> clover[m]: FWIW I have my C630 with btrfs, and have not had any issues with it in ~2yr.
<clover[m]> maybe its something else then

<_[m]1> clover when you hard reset or all the time?
<clover[m]> Just randomly. I can't really find a behavior that triggers it.
<clover[m]> it's not as annoying as my issue with ath11k_pci failing on boot like half of the time

<hexdump0815> xyaon: maybe this gives at least a bit of direction about what is needed to get the gpu working https://github.com/hexdump0815/imagebuilder/blob/main/systems/snapdragon_7c_woa/doc/required-firmware.md
<hexdump0815> for your system fw will of course differ and there are a bunch of special qcom processes required to run to get some of the firmware files loaded
<hexdump0815> this might give an idea about those processes (might differ a bit on your system as well): https://github.com/hexdump0815/imagebuilder/blob/main/systems/snapdragon_7c_woa/postinstall-chroot.sh
<hexdump0815> in my experience it is not possible to get all ressource info required out of the acpi tables - for instance on the samsung galaxy book go we so far did not find a way to enable the touchpad properly
<hexdump0815> also the keyboard setup is more a hack then working properly there
<steev> i have never seen the ath11k_pci issue here
<steev> clover[m]: can you hack it where if the device doesn't exist, modprobe ath11k_pci -r; modprobe ath11k_pci ?
<steev> or does it require rebooting
<hexdump0815> i think it would be a very good idea to keep your wip dts somewhere on a git repo - this makes it much easier to discuss about it
<hexdump0815> xyaon: the windows on arm systems supported in postmarketos and their kernel trees are usually also good for inspiration and the aspire1 tree from travmurav[m]:

<steev> mani_s: ^^
<steev> maybe mani knows what might be happening
<clover[m]> fingers crossed
<steev> i've never seen that here at all
<steev> when that happens
<steev> is anything in /sys/kernel/debug/devices_deferred ?
<clover[m]> do i need any kernel parameter or config for that? tailing that file nothing appears when i do the modprobes
<clover[m]> im not surprised you dont see it. this never happens on my modem-less x13s
<steev> no, not tailing it
<steev> it would be empty or have entries in it
<clover[m]> its empty
crcvxc has joined #aarch64-laptops
<steev> that just means that there are no devices that are probe deferred
<steev> or maybe bamse might know? maybe there's some sorta conflict in the address space with the wwan and modem?
