<_`[m]> that might save me some pain now wouldn't it, good thing I'll fight with btrfs subvolumes some more first
<quinine> <travmurav[m]> "https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/..."; <- Great. I tried to implement libva-v4l2, but during the process I realized that v4l2 has a higher level than vaapi, and it is hard to implement this compatibility layer well.
<quinine> <clover[m]> "oh i just tried it and it doesn..." <- ❤️

<steev> quinine: you can try reverting out my hack for volume and see if that helps
<quinine> steev: I'll try it later.
<steev> just, be sure to turn the volume down in your headphones before putting them in/on your ears

<agl7-x13s-debian> re
<agl7-x13s-debian> clover[m]: Are you online?
<clover[m]> yeah
<agl7-x13s-debian> Bevore some Days I have updated my EOS-Installation. There was updated the linux-x13s+ kernel. After reboot the x13s doesn't start. The kernel was loaded but it doesn't start and the screen was black. I can't change to a text console. Do you know about this error and is there a new kernel (6.5.x-rcx)? I can change with chroot to the EOS-Installation (nvme ssd) and try to update the kernel.
<agl7-x13s-debian> clover[m]: ?
<clover[m]> yeah kernel name changed. what is your bootloader?
<agl7-x13s-debian> Grub
<agl7-x13s-debian> clover[m]: Grub
<clover[m]> okay, so just regenerate your grub config in the chroot. and it should pick up the new kernel name. run grub-mkconfig and it should find kernel, dtb, and initrd
<clover[m]> make sure your efi partition is mounted at /boot in the chroot
<agl7-x13s-debian> Yes I know about this changes of the kernelname (now "vmlinuz-linux" and not "Image") I have do the grub-mkconfig command and in ther /boot/grub/grub.cfg is the right name. But the Kernel does not start!
<agl7-x13s-debian> clover[m]: Ther was a short message at start of the kernel and then the screen is black
<agl7-x13s-debian> *There
<clover[m]> Do you need to run fsck?
<agl7-x13s-debian> clover[m]: I can do this ....
<agl7-x13s-debian> Moment ....
<clover[m]> i there is a short message before kernel starts, it could be a corrupted boot partition but im not sure
<clover[m]> s/i/if/
<agl7-x13s-debian> clover[m]: OK, there was a lot of errors and fixes and at the begin of the fsck there was the messages that the root-file-system hve errors.
<clover[m]> okay
<agl7-x13s-debian> clover[m]: OK i try once more if I can start EOS ... I have to close this IRC connection ....
<clover[m]> good luck

<agl7-x13s-eos> clover[m]: Yeah :-) It works now :-)
<clover[m]> huzzah! :)
<agl7-x13s-eos> clover[m]: Thank you :-) I put it in my memory, that when once more the system not starts I make at first time an fsck!!!
<agl7-x13s-eos> s/an/a/
<agl7-x13s-eos> clover[m]: There is some files in /lost+found ... I look to see what that ist.
<agl7-x13s-eos> s/ist/is/
<agl7-x13s-eos> clover[m]: It's one binary file and some text files where I mean they are unimportant. I have deletet all.
<agl7-x13s-eos> clover[m]: Thank you for your ideas!
<clover[m]> ok
<agl7-x13s-eos> clover[m]: I will install once more the whole EOS system, because the sound does not work and I have only the "Dummy Output" device in the box where I can select devices.
<clover[m]> what kernel are you using?
<clover[m]> what is your uname -a
<agl7-x13s-eos> clover[m]: Linux EOS-x13s 6.5.0-rc4-1-x13s-rc+ #1 SMP PREEMPT
<clover[m]> can try switching to 6.4 first?
<clover[m]> sudo pacman -S linux-x13s
<agl7-x13s-eos> clover[m]: OK i try it once more
<clover[m]> make sure grub looks good before rebooting
<agl7-x13s-eos> ok
<agl7-x13s-eos> cd /boot
<agl7-x13s-eos> sorry
<agl7-x13s-eos> wrong windows
<clover[m]> in 6.4 i shipped 'vmlinuz-linux' and an uncompressed 'vmlinux' because some people use systemd-boot and it doesnt support loading the compressed kernels
<clover[m]> grub should be able to load either one
<agl7-x13s-eos> clover[m]: I have make "grub-mkconfig" and it found /boot/vmlinuz-linux and /boot/initramfs-linux.img
<clover[m]> ok good
<agl7-x13s-eos> ok now I try to boot ....

<steev> make sure the rest of the system is fully updated
<steev> firmware and alsa config changes should be pulled in too, not just the kernel
<agl7-x13s-eos> clover[m]: A few days ago we tried this all before, you came to the decision then to just reinstall. The ThinkPad x13s is more or less a test machine for me. So no problem!
<clover[m]> okay, do you have latest packages? pacman -Syu
<clover[m]> do you have the right alsa-ucm package? pacman -S alsa-ucm-conf-git-x13s
<clover[m]> maybe this time you can test BTRFS :)
<clover[m]> here's a write up i did if you want to try: https://github.com/ironrobin/archiso-x13s/wiki/BTRFS-Setup
<agl7-x13s-eos> clover[m]: Oh OK, that's good!
<agl7-x13s-eos> clover[m]: Thank you!
<agl7-x13s-eos> Then I can install the Snapshoot function ;-)
<agl7-x13s-eos> clover[m]: Shall I install at the new instation time at once the linux-x13s-rc kernel?
<clover[m]> if you just use regular linux-x13s everything should work fine
<clover[m]> just be sure to have alsa-ucm-conf-git-x13s because upstream isn't ready yet
<agl7-x13s-eos> clover[m]: I just installed "alsa-acm..." and will now boot again to see if there are more devices in the selection.

<clover[m]> Jasper: was there any tips to get a kernel to boot from usb? Mine seems to be stuck trying to mount.
<Jasper[m]1> <clover[m]> "Jasper: was there any tips to..." <- Replug worked for me on 5.q9
<Jasper[m]1> *5.19
<clover[m]> yeah same, can't get a newer kernel to work, oh well i guess
<Jasper[m]1> clover[m]: I remember some people here talking about some regulators being reset after boot or something?
<Jasper[m]1> @clover my install corrupted itself
<Jasper[m]1> It rebooted/crashed right when I was updating so the kernel didn't match the modules anymore when unlocking FDE
<Jasper[m]1> Like it tends to do after unlocking LUKS
<clover[m]> that sucks. i don't often get random crashes
