<JensGlathe[m]> steev: Thank you. My pop-os install was missing qrtr-ns and protection-domain-mapper. 6.9 kernel didn't care much, sound was working anyway and battery looked like it was working. Now both work, didn't even need to reboot.
<steev> if their kernel was based on mine, it woulda had the pd-mapper in the kernel; but qrtr-ns shouldn't be needed as it has been in the kernel for... a very long time, the service probably just says something like "name already in use exiting"
<JensGlathe[m]> installed both to be safe
<JensGlathe[m]> 6.9 was based on your branch, 6.10 is based on johan's
<JensGlathe[m]> need to build one with the system76 build system yet. Since official ubuntu 6.8 kernels have most (all?) of what's needed, should be doable. I accidentally booted the 6.8 kernel that was installed on the iso, and that came up, too - without sound and battery (now we know why)

<steev> i never knew a good way of doing that, i mean i manually would add things.... but maybe ema or xnox know better as ema has done it for debian, and xnox does ubuntu stuff

<ema> steev: building a kernel with a custom config the debian-ish way you mean?
<JensGlathe[m]> <ema> "steev: building a kernel with..." <- yes that's what I would like to do.
<JensGlathe[m]> My last attempt at this was debian/rules editconfigs and load my saved-away .config in the menu.
<konradybcio> or you can make bindeb-pkg on a torvalds tree (without debian addons)
<JensGlathe[m]> thats what i'm doing already
<JensGlathe[m]> wait, would it just be to change defconfig = defconfig in debian.master/rules.d/arm64.mk to what I want? Sounds too easy
<konradybcio> make sure you use a defconfig and not .config (you can convert 2 to 1 by make savedefconfig, it will output to kernel_root/defconfig)
<JensGlathe[m]> yeah I have a devkit_defconfig which I maintain that way. But I could place just this as input in the make file?
<konradybcio> it's not like the build system is gonna bill you for trying that out ;)
<ema> JensGlathe[m]: this should have all the details you need https://kernel-team.pages.debian.net/kernel-handbook/ch-common-tasks.html#s-common-building
<ema> let me know if you have suggestions for improvement!

<steev> 30C isn't terrible, it's 29C here currently
<steev> when it starts getting to 35 though.... plsno
<agl> steev: Do you know about the Linux kernel at gitlab (https://gitlab.com/sc8180x-mainline/linux) for the sc8180x (8cx Gen 1) (also for the Galaxy Book S Notebook of Samsung)?
<steev> i do not
<steev> i mean, i know of it, i have no interaction with it :)
<agl> steev: The 8cx Gen 1 is not more slower than the 8cx Gen 3 (x13s) . When I compile the kernel with "make -j8 bindeb-pkg" the time until it is ready is not so far.
<agl> steev: And the Notebook will not be hot.
<steev> Yeah, that’s my experience with the c630 and the flex5g
<steev> I mean, the c630 is definitely slower, and less ram, but, even though it doesn’t throttle til 95C, it almost never feels hot

<steev> well i'd prefer to do less than 191 commits, but more than 95 at a time
<steev> actually that doesn't make much sense and thinking on it more it still makes no sense
<steev> because realistically, at 189 commits, so going back to prettty much the beginning, it shouldn't have shown the issue
<steev> more realistically, i probably need to bisect all the way back to 3.11.2
<JensGlathe[m]> hmm debuild is running, curious af
<JensGlathe[m]> <steev> "is there a way to make git..." <- you could start a new bisect with the last good and first bad commit you recorded in git bisect log when it leads to nowhere

<steev> JensGlathe[m]: potentially, part of the problem is that i need to build debian packages as part of the testing, and just dropping the git repository in each time isn't gonna work
<JensGlathe[m]> but can you test on all commits that it checks out or is it just cumbersome

<steev> it's cumbersome, because i need to test on arm64 being emulated on x86_64, which means destroying the testbed and copying the git repo over again each time. this whole process is tedious as fuck already (2 hour build, 5 minutes to set up test bed and test the install)
