<HdkR> The preconfigured T14s is now on "sale" for $1889.30 as I expected they would do. Still can't configure it though

Dylanger[m] is now known as Dylanger
<konradybcio> moreover, apple silicon doesnt implement el3
<konradybcio> they did with the first two a64 socs (a7 and a8)
<Dylanger> Didn't at all or just signed and load a dumb stub/basically neuter it
<Dylanger> Apple Silicon has support for Linux right now, I'm not sure when Qualcomm's X SoCs will be mainline'd
<konradybcio> it's not there at all
<konradybcio> EL3 is optional by the arm spec
<Dylanger> * be mainline'd, I gotta make a decision next month
<Dylanger> konradybcio: Ooo neat
<konradybcio> there is however a separate "security" core
<konradybcio> the secure enclave as apple likes to refer to it
<Dylanger> SEP

<robclark> Dylanger: there are a few things still missing upstream but I guess most of it should land in next kernel cycle or two.. but dts for each individual laptop may take some time, I guess.. because there are a lot of 'em
<robclark> also, according to anandtech deep dive on the x1, it apparently supports nested virt

<Jasper[m]> <Dylanger> "Apple Silicon has support for..." <- You gotta do absolutely nothing if you already have a functioning laptop
<Jasper[m]> I'm waiting a bit for the firmware updates to die down, DT's to be upstreamed ~~and framework to release a X Elite mainboard~~.

<tobhe> so do I understand correctly that qrtr-ns from qrtr is not needed anymore for pd-mapper?
<travmurav[m]> yes, qrtr-ns is implemented by the kernel for a long while now, and pd-mapper service should probably be updated by this point...
<tobhe> ack, I can send a PR and update our Ubuntu package then

<HdkR> Jasper[m]: Is Framework making an X1E laptop?
<Jasper[m]> HdkR: I hope so
<Jasper[m]> They released a RISCV mainboard today, absolutely the worst time to do it
<Jasper[m]> *announced
<HdkR> lol, wtf
<Jasper[m]> It's a DeepComputing RISCV motherboard
<kalebris> HdkR: not sure if that counts but tuxedo is working on one: https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/en/TUXEDO-on-ARM-is-coming.tuxedo
* abby hoped for POWER
<Jasper[m]> abby: Yeah that's never going to happen
<travmurav[m]> quick look suggests that the soc they mention is ~= 4x a55, I wonder if this is some 3rd party effort, not official framework one
<Jasper[m]> travmurav[m]: DeepComputing, they're the company in cahoots with canonical
<Jasper[m]> * with canonical for RISC-V support
<HdkR> I'll have to keep an eye out for Framework releasing an X1E thing, I didn't expect them to branch out from x86
<abby> i still have a ppc laptop
<travmurav[m]> right so I guess it's not really framework working on it but more like hosting the experimental design for them
<Jasper[m]> HdkR: I think they threw out a "We may do it if there's enough demand for it" waaaaaay back when they started
<HdkR> kalebris: Kind of neat if they don't vendor lock the wwan port, unlike certain other companies. But very prototype means it is probably going to be a while :)
<Jasper[m]> travmurav[m]: It also coincided with the CAD file release for the FW13 body
<HdkR> Just waiting for Lenovo to allow configuring the T14s atm :|
<Jasper[m]> Jasper[m]: I'm going to guess they'll do it especially now the QC soc seems to be as good as it is
<Jasper[m]> HdkR: It's not even there in the Dutch store :/
<HdkR> Rude that they allowed the Yoga configurations but not the T14s so far
systwi has quit []
<kalebris> yeah, but there is at least 1 company willing to bet on linux support for x1e, so hopefully that opens up a few things, but I will need to wait until someone actually boots it somehow with all things working right
<HdkR> "all" the things? Not even "all" the things are working right on X13s still. I'll take some of the things as a starting point :P
<Jasper[m]> kalebris: I mean Qualcomm is too
systwi has joined #aarch64-laptops
<JensGlathe[m]> Are y'all enduring a lot of pain with X13s now? I'm mostly a happy user
<kalebris> I am happy enough to try to buy a new one, but apparently they pulled it from the market at least in my region. Maybe trying to make way for t14s g6?
<JensGlathe[m]> ofc they would. But as long as there is no dtb, it is quite a bet. Still waiting for the QC email to get a dev kit
<kalebris> my wish/dreamlist of features on the x13s is just deeper sleep or hibernate
<HdkR> On X13s the only thing that bugs me today is 4-lane DP over type-C, DP-Audio over type-C for my type-C->HDMI converter and....I think that's it?
<Dantheman825[m]> I want louder speakers :(
<HdkR> and since I don't use the speakers, that one doesn't affect me :)
<Dantheman825[m]> Better sleep is a close 2nd
<Dantheman825[m]> Otherwise, I’m otherwise fairly happy with mine
<JensGlathe[m]> I saw a colleague strugglig today with an Intel based T14s and a HP widescreen display with USB-C /TB4 connection. The difference to our woes isn't too big. It's picky at best.
<HdkR> I found a few shortcuts that actually hits the N-key rollover limit of the internal keyboard but that's a lot better than the previous bios just straight up ignoring some combinations
<HdkR> Super+Shift+ some arrow keys, it doesn't like some combinations
<JensGlathe[m]> meaning: They haven't figured it out on Windows either
<kalebris> I'm actually running an lg5k ultrafine over usb4 in 2k since I think 6.9 without a problem. Not sure if it's 2 or 4 lane though

<JensGlathe[m]> I'm running pop-os24.04 (still pre-alpha) on mine and it's fun, mostly. Need to do a test session with the USB-C display (Iiyama 2792), which can do 4-lane DP alt mode.
<kalebris> I just hooked it to my lenovo P32p-20, and got 4k without a problem, but not sure how to check for the 2 vs 4 lane thing
