robclark changed the topic of #aarch64-laptops to: Linux support for AArch64 Laptops (Chrome OS Trogdor Devices - Asus NovaGo TP370QL - HP Envy x2 - Lenovo Mixx 630 - Lenovo Yoga C630 - Lenovo ThinkPad X13s - and various other snapdragon laptops) - https://oftc.irclog.whitequark.org/aarch64-laptops
<steev>
the thinkpad also has 3 year warranty, not 1 year like yoga

steev: tbh warranty is not what I care about.. there will be a new generation that needs bringup before I have to care about that
<steev>
doesn't warranty also count towards updates?
<robclark>
honestly, otherwise my x13s is still nice
<robclark>
hmm, MS updates? Not a thing I care about
<steev>
oh i love the shit outta my x13s (and c630, and flex5g though less and it's more the red headed stepchild of the bunch); the only reason i want the T14s is for the 64gb ram version once they update
<steev>
no i mean bios

<steev>
the c630 stopped getting bios updates as soon as it was outta warranty
<robclark>
I just want an a7xx device that is reasonably fast for compiling mesa and kernel ;-)
<steev>
there's a bunch of shit fucked with it (like it won't boot from > 32gb usb), and of course the other misc non-linux things
<steev>
but it will never get another update, sadly
<steev>
and i'd asked mark about it (okay i asked the forums, mark was the only one who replied), but they never did anything about the 32gb limitation (it wasn't there originally)

<kalebris>
what's the best way to figure out if the laptop lid is closed? I need to disable fingerprint reader in calmshell mode, because it gets annoying otherwise
<dgilmore>
there was a couple of stages of python complinig some things at install time
<dgilmore>
compiling even
<steev>
yeah, it looks like you guys precompile? maybe
<dgilmore>
we do
<steev>
thank you! i've updated our ticket. i'd tested fedora myself but wanted to make sure i'd done it correctly
<steev>
also aren't you supposed to be using dnf these days? :P

dgilmore: if i could trouble you once more :D could you do an install (on Fedora Core (ideally same as the one you did prior) and then run the following from the paste (thing is, i'm not sure if the paths are correct for fedora) - `/usr/bin/python3.11 -E -S /usr/lib/python3.11/py_compile.py /usr/lib/python3.11/*.py`
<steev>
s/the paste//
<steev>
i was gonna paste the full list, but *.py works to show the issue here
<steev>
Ah, you guys throw it into /usr/lib64/python3.11
