mine was definitely not the fan, might've even just been the MBP speakers

Macs Fan Control app can slight lower the idle fan speed. I haven't heard it but the developer says it's a noticable difference. Worth a try
<deagle50[m]>
You can do it with the free version

<marcan> "cmalvi: aren't most of those..." <- Yes, they are but in some cases build from source solve the problem (for other apps). Joplin as examples has some successfully arm installation building from source, not in my case but there are.
<cmalvi[m]>
I’ll give a shot to FEX, thank you
<marcan>
sure, but it's obviously not going to work for apps you do not build from source which are x86 apps

I’ve already tried build Joplin from source with no success

Isn't there also box64 ?
guillaume_g has joined #asahi
<cmalvi[m]>
<Sobek[m]> "Isn't there also box64 ?" <- I tried it with no success, with both 4K and 16k kernel
<ptitSeb[m]>
box64 should work on 16k kernal on M1
<ptitSeb[m]>
on 4K too if you choose a generic ARM profile when building it
<cmalvi[m]>
Maybe I missed something when following the build guide, I don’t know. It just doesn’t work for any app I tried
<ptitSeb[m]>
on 16k kernel, just use the M1 profile when building. Use `ctest` when it's builded to see if it's working
<ptitSeb[m]>
if the tests fails, tell me
<ptitSeb[m]>
also, box64 is for x86_64 apps, not 32bits x86 ones
<cmalvi[m]>
Yes I read the warnings about. I reboot now in the 16k kernel to give a try, thanks
<ptitSeb[m]>
if you have some leftover of previous build, maybe start by deleting the "build" folder to start clean
<ptitSeb[m]>
* previous build attempts, maybe

I’ve already deleted the entire folder days ago, so I’m sure about it 😂
<cmalvi[m]>
Runned ctest with success
<ptitSeb[m]>
sounds like a "rage purge" ;)
<ptitSeb[m]>
ah good
<ptitSeb[m]>
what program are you trying to run?
<cmalvi[m]>
So now I’m thinking I misunderstood how to use it ahah
<cmalvi[m]>
Joplin? Do you think it will work
<ptitSeb[m]>
IIRC, there is systemd/binfmt on asahi, but you may need to restart it
<cmalvi[m]>
Already restarted the service
<ptitSeb[m]>
Joplin? don't know what is it. I have to search first
<cmalvi[m]>
As written in the build guide
<cmalvi[m]>
ptitSeb[m]: Is a note markdown application
<cmalvi[m]>
I’m using it with my nextcloud instance
<ptitSeb[m]>
mmm, looks like an Electron based app
<cmalvi[m]>
Yes
<ptitSeb[m]>
it will not work
<cmalvi[m]>
So I need to rebuild box64 with the 4K kernel?
<cmalvi[m]>
Or any electron app doesn’t work with box64?
<ptitSeb[m]>
box64 still have issue with everything chromium based for now. I think it's the use of custom malloc... I started working on this, but I'm not finished on this subject yet
<ptitSeb[m]>
and electron apps seems to needs 4K kernel also
<ptitSeb[m]>
(probably for the same reason: the custom malloc lib built-in)
<cmalvi[m]>
For the 4K isn’t a problem, I’ve built one just for test
<cmalvi[m]>
Box64 is a great project, really thank you
<ptitSeb[m]>
:) thx
