<RoundDuckKira> when compiling libidevicerestore I get this error: https://pastebin.com/LJ02kpQL
<RoundDuckKira> is the latest git broken
<RoundDuckKira> libidevicerestore really needs a new release soon
<capta1nt0ad> why not use the binary package?
<RoundDuckKira> there is none
<RoundDuckKira> unless I use like fedora rawhide
<RoundDuckKira> idk how to even think of installing that
<capta1nt0ad> really? found it in the package idevicerestore
<capta1nt0ad> it's seperate from libimobiledevice
<RoundDuckKira> yes and that version predates M1
<capta1nt0ad> ohh
<RoundDuckKira> it won't work with M1
<RoundDuckKira> or M2
<RoundDuckKira> or Manything
<capta1nt0ad> yeah I haven't noticed since I've only used it with iphones

<RoundDuckKira> hi lactose
<capta1nt0ad> it seems like M1 support was added on May 26 2021, but the fedora 39 release is from commit 609f7f0 which is from May 23 2023
<RoundDuckKira> hmm
<capta1nt0ad> might want to check if it works
<RoundDuckKira> god I don't wanna install yet another distro
<RoundDuckKira> but I guess I can try that
<capta1nt0ad> it's the same build on rawhide weirdly

<RoundDuckKira> I must install Fedora
<tpw_rules> what are you trying to restore?
<tpw_rules> and what do you mean by fail?
<RoundDuckKira> a M2 MAc Mini
<RoundDuckKira> fail as in there is no recognition of the device in DFU mode
<RoundDuckKira> no entry on dmesg
<RoundDuckKira> nothing
<tpw_rules> did you use the right port?
<RoundDuckKira> yes
<RoundDuckKira> i think
<tpw_rules> that suggests that it's not libimobiledevice's fault if you can't see it in libusb
<tpw_rules> s/libusb/lsusb/
<tpw_rules> either there's something wrong with your cable or you didn't set up the mac properly

<RoundDuckKira> yeah it still borked
<RoundDuckKira> same exact error
<RoundDuckKira> prob a missing library in libplist
<RoundDuckKira> sigh

<capta1nt0ad> I am trying to configure tiny-dfr to display media keys by default (without an fn press). I found the config.toml file on the repo, and saw I was meant to copy it to /etc/tiny-dfr/config.toml. I did this and edited the correct setting, but after restarting tiny-dfr it did not change.
<capta1nt0ad> I tried changing other configuration values as well to see if it would work and it did not.
<capta1nt0ad> Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong configuring it?

<capta1nt0ad> kidplayer666: I think looking at the Mastodon (https://social.treehouse.systems/@AsahiLinux/111499380037949163) all scenarios involving installing Asahi Linux have been 'fixed' as of the 14.2 release (the latest macOS version is 14.2.1), but the problem still partially exists
<kidplayer666> i wondered whether i did actually fix it with the 14.2
<bruse> Thanks for all or your incredible work on Asahi! Other than hanging out on IRC, is there a good way to keep up to day with updates to the various parts of the project? I completely understand if there is no time to do constant writeups on everything that's going on, but if there's an RSS feed, a planet-like blog collection or anything else along those lines I'd love to follow it.
<capta1nt0ad> I think you can get mastodon feeds as rss

<wizzard> Hi
holiday has joined #asahi
<wizzard> Hello and greetings to this awesome project.
<wizzard> I do not need to restore any backups. My guess would be to wipe mac os and Linux and reinstall both.
<wizzard> What is the recommended way to switch from arch asahi to fedora asahi?
<wizzard> I would be grateful if you could point me to the relevant documentation regarding the migration to fedora.
<wizzard> Can I remove the Mac os install and only keep the recovery partition?
<wizzard> I would prefer to remove the Mac os partiton, to gain more free space. Before installing asahi from the recovery mode.
<wizzard> My goal is to give as much space as possible to Linux, as I only use Mac OS for installing firmware updates. My idea is, that I can install Mac OS on a USB drive, so I can use the stick in the future for installing future firmware updates.
<wizzard> Thanks for your attention and efforts 😍

<knedlik> I have a similar question - I have a 256GB disk, so the space to have both OSes is very limited. I do have a time machine backup of MacOS, so I'm wondering if it's a good idea to remove MacOS considering I'm basically only using Asahi now
<knedlik> Holy, I didn't think I'd say those words anytime soon :D
<holiday> knedlik: it's not possible unfortunately, asahi uses macOS's firmware to function
<knedlik> oh
<holiday> what you can do is a fresh install of macOS and shrink it as much as possible
<knedlik> Yeah, I'm gonna do that I guess
<holiday> and allocate as much as you can to asahi
<holiday> i think a fresh install of macOS would take around 30gb but im not sure, never tested it
<knedlik> Is there a way to get a file from time machine I could put on my external SSD to possibly get data back from?

<thasti> (fn-enter = insert)

<PaulFertser> knedlik: no, certainly not, and there're many different things you're mixing.
<PaulFertser> In Linux Virtual Terminal you can copy and paste inside a GNU Screen session and that's a completely different mechanism. There was also "gpm" mouse daemon for that.
<PaulFertser> In X11 you have two different concepts: X11 Primary Selection and X11 Clipboard, and middle mouse click inserts from Selection. Other combinations are up to individual X11 clients to handle.
<knedlik> Let me rephrase, in most cases on a Linux desktop, you can use ctrl+shift+C/V to copy/paste into a terminal emulator
<PaulFertser> Also in both VT and X11 you can use Emacs and it can be using regular Emacs keybindings or some "CUA keybindings".
<PaulFertser> It's customary for X11 terminal emulators to handle Shift-Insert for pasting from X11 selection. Not sure if e.g. XTerm is configured to paste from clipboard with C-S-v by default or not, it would be kind of surprising if it did.
<PaulFertser> In URxvt it's certainly not supported to use C-S-v to paste.
<knedlik> Didn't know that, thanks for enlightening me
