I'd really like HDMI working on my M1 MBP, but that's documented as requiring 13.5 firmware. Is there a way to install a specific version of firmware? Updating to 13.5 MacOS, I ended up with 13.7 firmware.

Oh, I read too much into the "Updating to 13.5 MacOS, ended upw ith 13.7" sentence, thinking it implied making a new asahi install from macOS 13.5

j`ey: I did have 12.? and then updated MacOS which updated the firmware to 13.7 (or 13.6?).

robher: the issue is that the stub macOS partition created by the installer has a copy of the firmware too, that isnt upgraded by macOS

I know that people have done it by manually deleting the stub partition and reinstalling, not sure if there is a guide for that (and it's a manual process)

robher: what does asahi-diagnose say about os firmware version? you cannot have 13.7 os firmware, it should be 12.4,12.5 or 13.5

this is not system firmware, unrelated to macos partition

robher: you have an older install which means hdmi will not work. you will have to wipe and reinstall or wait until os firmware upgrades are supported in the installer (m arcan said it was a TODO item)

there is a way to re-do only the part that carries the OS firmware to get it ugpraded, but it's a manual advanced process where you risk with losing data too if something goes wrong and thus want a backup just as well with a reinstall

so might as well reinstall (or wait for the automatic upgrading support)

once in-place os fw upgrades are officially supported it will probably be a curl alx.sh/something-something-upgrade in the recovery os terminal (after holding down the power button)
