i usuall donate to social issues, but rarely to tech. This project will get some currency
<OscarL>
:-D
<OscarL>
"14:56 <NaGERST> I rewrote the aureal vortex 2 driver btw. Sounds a lot better now, and the dreamblaster now works." <<< this is the log I was mentioning.
<NaGERST>
yes and it works
<OscarL>
great!
<NaGERST>
Do you need it?
<OscarL>
do you plan to open source it?
<OscarL>
NaGERST: I would love to see if it works for my old card :-D
<NaGERST>
I plan to get it into the haiku source once it is fault free.
<OscarL>
(a Genius Sound Maker 64, AU8820)
<OscarL>
AWESOME!!!
<NaGERST>
it is not fault free yet, so i feel bad uploading it so far. there is some "clicking" and base problems that should not be there,
<OscarL>
Maybe other people could chip-in... do not let perfect be the enemy of good :-D
<NaGERST>
aureal vortex 2 is the "perfect" sound chip
<OscarL>
Yeah... I only managed to get a Vortex 1 (bought it in 1998) down here in Argentina. Still love that card to this day.
<NaGERST>
Iam aiming to move to Uruguay in 10 years, perhaps we might meet
<OscarL>
NaGERST: I would love to move to Uruguay too (basically same culture than in Argentina... but with a sane governent/economy :-D)
<NaGERST>
Vortex 2 is name that hurts it's sale though. Some parts are the vortex 6*** shit parts made by Ensoniq/cyrrus whilst the black cards are 8830 rev A (rev B is cost cutting shit cards with plastic aux ports)
<NaGERST>
the digital translation of a 8* cards is 1 to 1 unlike a soundblaster or ensoniq

<NaGERST>
my driver is only for the 8830 chip
<NaGERST>
OscarL: Yeah uruguay seems to be the only place in SA that is sane
<NaGERST>
Chile is also an option, but becoming less so
<OscarL>
re: 8830... Understood. But maybe it could be used as a base (porting/adapting one of the 8820 from BSD/Linux, or something). Basic stereo output would be more than enough for me in Haiku.
<OscarL>
in any case... thanks for working on a driver for Haiku!
<OscarL>
I'm trying to fix some issues with a serial mouse driver I wrote in 2004....
<OscarL>
because there is ONE Haiku user that needs it :-D

<OscarL>
my card as an Aureal Vortex chip.
<OscarL>
do you mean that is a rebranded one?
<NaGERST>
no, iT "can" be if labelled rev b for av2 and most certainly for a av1
<NaGERST>
google your chip
<OscarL>
Markings on my chip read: AU8820B2
<NaGERST>

hi folks! After updating to latest nightly, forcing vesa to use 1080p no longer works. Has anything changed ?

<PulkoMandy>
yes, the bios patching code is disabled by default now due to compatibility issues on many machines. It can be enabled back in the vesa settings file if you need it
<PulkoMandy>
I don't know if that's the specific prooblem you're having
<rodney>
oh, i c. How can i enable it ?
<PulkoMandy>
add a line saying 'bios_patching true' to /boot/home/config/settings/kernel/drivers/vesa and reboot
<rodney>
thank you PulkoMandy

PulkoMandy: so, i got several new resolutions. but trying any of them gives me a "The screen could not be set: General system error".
<PulkoMandy>
ok, do you get some messages in syslog as well (cat /boot/system/var/log/syslog)
<rodney>
yeah.
<rodney>
loads of them
<rodney>
i can paste it to you in private if you want ?
