I guess I'm not missing anything. I haven't ever bothered with a Spotify account for the same reason - never wanted a subscription to something that was likely to have the plug pulled on it.
<erysdren>
i don't use any streaming services anymore. the only DRM i willingly submit to is Steam.
<erysdren>
all my cared-for music, media, movies etc is now physical or local digital copies
<erysdren>
took a long time to get here, tho...
<Viking667>
mmm. me too (steam), partly because it doesn't cost me anything aside from the cost of the games.
<erysdren>
yeah
<AlienSoldier>
can't wait to fet a steam romset in about 15 years :)
<AlienSoldier>
*get
<Viking667>
? What's a romset?
<AlienSoldier>
all a platform games in one file archive
<Viking667>
Ahh, like they have for MAME?
<AlienSoldier>
yes
<Viking667>
I remember mame, it was the only way I could re-play Gauntlet. That was the first RPG arcade game I can remember having played.
<AlienSoldier>
play gauntlet IV on the genesis is you never did, it is gauntlet 1 but with a real RPG mode, the music rock also.
<Viking667>
"is"? or "if"?
<AlienSoldier>
if
<Viking667>
(and I don't have a Genesis - I don't think I've ever had anything SEGA)
<AlienSoldier>
you can get en emulator like mame
<AlienSoldier>
*an
<AlienSoldier>
Last gauntlet i played what Gauntlet Legend on Dreamcast. I know they have made more that i want to play.
<Viking667>
huh. Seven Kingdoms reminds me of Age Of Empires.

oh it's in /bin right?
<OscarL>
yeah, its a command line utility.

<scanty>
right
<scanty>

ok, let's see if it makes noise.

nice :-)
<scanty>
OscarL: so haiku actually had all the dependencies?

maybe i could make a haiku frontend. it would be nice, but it is a shame that pandora is not global

while I just compiled the standalone CLI... pianobar also can be compiled as a .so, just mentioning as you may want to use that if creating a native interface for it

Guys, I have 3 PRs on haikuports that should be ok to merge AFAIK, care to take a look? :)
<Peppersawce>
Also, small question, do the packages built now from recipes go on Beta5's repos too?
<Peppersawce>
(ofc with those 3 PRs I'm not referring to the doom one)

looking at the HaikuPorts builder's logs... seems my PC is not the only one having a bad day today :-/
<OscarL>
(spent over half an hour trying to boot up my main desktop :-()
<OscarL>
Peppersawce: there's only one HaikuPorts repo at the moment, same is used for beta5 and nightlies.
<Peppersawce>
Ok ty, wanted to update a recipe for current version but I'm pretty sure it'd ruin it for beta 5
<OscarL>
(builders run a slightly older beta5)
<OscarL>
yeah, I use mostly betas to stay compatible with the builders, but occasionally test things in nightly to detect "upcoming" issues (or possible solutions when things gets fixed in Haiku nightlies).
<OscarL>
Peppersawce: sometimes it is possible to craft the patches so it works on both beta5 and nightlies, but if doing that effort makes sense or not... dependes case by case (and porter's will :-D).
<Peppersawce>
Honestly, not worth it, the changes aren't going to be noticed by the end user
<OscarL>
I've done it in the past for the Python packages (/bin/python3.xx), as they are kinda integral to HaikuPorts; and did also for libfossil just the other day... just because it was easy. But yeah, not always worth it :-)
<Peppersawce>
Oh yeah, my ports are nothing that serious anyway :)
<OscarL>
but you're helping with ports you care about, so... thanks a lot for contributing!
<Peppersawce>
Thank you :)

<Peppersawce>
Thanks for the feedback, I'll be happy if it gets the ball rolling :)
<OscarL>
sometimes reviews/merges can be quite slow, there are only a handful people with merge rights actually active (and less ones doing reviews).
<OscarL>
and most of them also want to work on *their* things, so time spent on reviews might suffer further.
<Peppersawce>
Tbf I feel it's best people work on what they want to work
<Peppersawce>
So I don't mind it much, but it does get a bit frustrating when PRs with minor changes sit around for a bit

Also, the state of the gzdoom port might be getting to me, I'm banging my head against that wall for days now
<Peppersawce>
It's basically done, it's just got a small issue, I know the code that's responsible for it, roughly, but I have 0 clue on how to fix it... or even if it can be fixed
<Peppersawce>
The fact that the only other instance of that issue I could find online was on... Void Linux of all things
<Peppersawce>
Means I can't even piggyback on other people's solutions lol
<Peppersawce>
I tried bribing the GZDoom devs to solve it by upstreaming out patches, their answer is... "maybe an underflow, maybe an overflow?"
<Peppersawce>
That didn't help much at all lmao
<OscarL>
re: PRs taking time... I had at least one PR take from March 2024 to Feb 2025, with a few "dead air" months in there even after addressing all suggestion. Can be a bit... "uff" sometimes, yes :-D (but everyone is doing their best with the time they have)
<OscarL>
I sometimes look up how VoidLinux does things too, heh.
<Peppersawce>
lol
<OscarL>
some bugs can drive you mad... I can relate to that, oh! too well.
<OscarL>
sometimes I leave things "in the back burner" for a 2 or 4 months, and give it another go.
<OscarL>
had that with darn scipy package.
<Peppersawce>
Yeah, we're all doing volunteer work basically, so it would be pretty uncool to make a big fuss about PRs sitting arounf
<OscarL>
I think I tried updating it in at least 5 separate "sprints".
<Peppersawce>
Oof, must've been painful

• OscarL (e72bd3f9): pianobar: new recipe. (#12111)
<Begasus[m]>
for some of the other PR's, there are already a few where some of us commented on them, doing follow ups makes sense :)
<PetePete>
*slowly unsheaths his katana*
<Begasus[m]>
too late for my brains to start tackling atm :)
<Begasus[m]>
did a build for latest calibre this morning, first one went fine (but still had references to Qt5 packages), after fixing that in the recipe I'm getting an error :/
<OscarL>
(and line 57, same change: link() for symlink())
<Begasus[m]>
os.symlink(src, dest)
<Begasus[m]>
already did
<Begasus[m]>
thought it would be something with linking, but wasn't aware how to change :)
<OscarL>
do you have "add_book.png" anywhere on the chroot? build system/code might be getting confused by the chroot environment (would be my first guess)
<Begasus[m]>
nuked build dir ...
<OscarL>
:-(
<OscarL>
should see where that "calibre-default" dir is actually located, and where it thinks it should be (assuming it exists)
diver has joined #haiku
<OscarL>
maybe that "images/tmpjgozufsc/icons.qrc" contains more clues in it (should be a text file, if I'm not mistaken)
<OscarL>
so file is actually under resources/images/add_book.png, but it complains about: "Cannot find file 'calibre-default/images/add_book.png'" :-/
<OscarL>
either it gets copied/symlinked around at build time (and somewhat that's failing), or the .qrc file contains a bogus filepath for some reason.
<Begasus[m]>
yeah :/
<OscarL>
seems "calibre-default" is the name of the default theme, and it gets created from data stored under resources... makes sense, still not clear where it goes wrong :-D
<Begasus[m]>
brain not functional anymore :)
<OscarL>
content of that icon.qrc should help, if you can find it.
