<scanty> AlienSoldier: nice machine, but it says you basically can't add more RAM, and 8GB these days is like nothing.
<scanty> plus, 5400RPM.... eh..
<scanty> how much $$$ does this thing costs?
<AlienSoldier> scanty 50$ CAN
<scanty> oh
<scanty> that's super cheap
<AlienSoldier> no transport fee
<scanty> much less than i thought.
<AlienSoldier> yeah, it almost worth it just for the 1To HD
vdamewood has quit [Quit: My Mac has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<scanty> true.
<AlienSoldier> and i have the mint box and a keyboard and mice
<scanty> ah
<scanty> probably you would wind up spending more $$ on the right KB and mouse than the actual machine itself~
<AlienSoldier> if i can get it to operate well with something like NFS or Samba i could almost have a serial experiment Lain Be machine :)
<AlienSoldier> i tested a general 2 button mouse i have and it work on it also
<scanty> nice.
<AlienSoldier> so me (that was not wanting anything apple) now have a classic, a G4 and now that one, and eventually a 040 one once i get an Amiga Vampire .
<AlienSoldier> using shapeshifter
Chai-T-Rex has joined #haiku
<AlienSoldier> the 5400 rpm is almost a +, it make no noise and those last eternity
<scanty> that's a lot of computers. What is Amiga Vampire?
<AlienSoldier> seem the video chip is the problem with haiku
<scanty> I agree it would make a fun haiku machine.
<scanty> :(

<AlienSoldier> cost too much for my taste, perhaps now that intel is selling altera FPGA wil get cheaper
<AlienSoldier> i know i will pull the trigger at one point, i burn to program back in 68K assembly

<scanty> that vampire thingy looks cool
<scanty> i'm better with 65816, but not by much.
<scanty> 68K is a beast to emulate
<scanty> wow ncie
<scanty> nice*
<scanty> i'm guessing they implemented it on a FPGA?
<AlienSoldier> i really like what they did with audio (fully DMA 16 channel) and the AMMX (MMX implemented as cpu instruction extension.
<AlienSoldier> yes FPGA
<AlienSoldier> cpu and also all custom chips.
<scanty> it's like a 68K on crack.
<AlienSoldier> yes, only 512M of ram but that is insane for an amiga
<scanty> ah
<AlienSoldier> and it get better with every core
<scanty> admittedly, i don't know any 68K ASM
jessicah has joined #haiku
<scanty> yeah that six-deep instruction pipeline is pretty cool.
<scanty> wonder why the examples start on #10.
<scanty> I need #-1
<scanty> wow lots of registers, too.
<AlienSoldier> yes, register bonanza
<scanty> unfortunately, with FPGAs you can't get super-high clock rates.
<AlienSoldier> indeed, but on the Amiga architecture lot main cpu was always the idea, and have the custom chip do the job
<AlienSoldier> *slow main cpu
<scanty> i see.
<AlienSoldier> who know if an ASIC will come down the "pipeline"
<scanty> hehe
<scanty> jeez. big instruction set.
<AlienSoldier> not so long ago it was 200 mips and now they are planning 600 mips http://www.apollo-core.com/knwledge.php?b=1&note=41089&z=9BtH7_
<scanty> i don't think MIPS are a fair assessment.
<scanty> but that's just my opinion.
<AlienSoldier> true
<scanty> ah, it's an Altera Cyclone
<scanty> good FPGA that.
<scanty> i have a cyclone dev board that i never used.
<AlienSoldier> i am so happy intel will free them. They were not in a position to promote fpga system
Nasina has joined #haiku
<AlienSoldier> and not the "intel ouside" wallpaper will make sense again
<AlienSoldier> *now
<scanty> intel doesn't "belong" in the fpga market. it's well covered by altera and xilinx, and you either use one or the other.
<AlienSoldier> when Intel and AMD bought those it stoped the momentum a lot, they got them because they feared they would take over their market.
<AlienSoldier> by controlling the price they controled their competitivity
<AlienSoldier> an fpga phone would have made sooo much sense in an evolving feild

<Begasus[m]> f*ck!!!! Warning: 'PRE_UNINSTALL_SCRIPTS' :(
<neoncortex> what that means @.@
<jmairboeck> sorry Begasus[m]
<Begasus[m]> not looking forward to clean llvm and start all over again :(
<jmairboeck> that is a cryptic message by haikuporter because it is an internal error that shouldn't happen
<Begasus[m]> jmairboeck
<Begasus[m]> np*
<jmairboeck> you get a traceback if you invoke haikuporter with --debug
<jmairboeck> last time I figured that it is caused by an outdated cache for the recipe which didn't contain the new variable yet
<jmairboeck> I "fixed" it by deleting port.recipe from the work-dir. I'm not sure if there are other causes of this.
<Begasus[m]> https://bpa.st/FWQQ
<Begasus[m]> not sure if there is anything usefull though :)
<jmairboeck> yes, that's the same error: PRE_UNINSTALL_SCRIPTS is missing in recipeKeys, so it re-used an old recipe from an outdated cache
<Begasus[m]> ran "hp llvm18 -b" yesterday to prepare it, so yes, maybe that was it
<jmairboeck> the important lines are these:
<jmairboeck> File "/boot/home/haikuporter/HaikuPorter/Policy.py", line 472, in _checkPostInstallAndPreUninstallScripts
<jmairboeck> KeyError: 'PRE_UNINSTALL_SCRIPTS'
<Begasus[m]> luckaly removing the port.recipe file worked
<jmairboeck> the ConfigParser should fill in all the attributes when parsing the recipe
<jmairboeck> the variables that aren't specified get their default value
<jmairboeck> but PRE_UNINSTALL_SCRIPTS didn't exist before, so it wasn't added at all if the recipe was parsed with a HaikuPorter version before that
<Begasus[m]> still need to check if this also happens if there is no port.recipe file present
<jmairboeck> I don't know exactly where haikuporter stores its recipe cache. Is that the port.recipe file or is that somewhere in 'repository'?
<Begasus[m]> maybe the dependency info files?
<jmairboeck> I just noticed that deleting port.recipe helped to reparse the original recipe
<Begasus[m]> yeah, llvm packaging atm after deleting the file
<Begasus[m]> https://bpa.st/L4KA
<Begasus[m]> worked now
<Begasus[m]> still no go : /boot/system/develop/tools/bin/../lib/gcc/x86_64-unknown-haiku/13.3.0/include/c++/cstddef:50:10: fatal: 'stddef.h' file not found
<jmairboeck> looks like the include path is configured wrong in LLVM/clang
<Begasus[m]> that's what I'm "trying" to fix :)
<jmairboeck> or haiku_devel is missing, but I guess that is not the problem ;)
<Begasus[m]> ps, the error is from pyside
<Begasus[m]> haiku${secondaryArchSuffix}_devel
<Begasus[m]> included in the recipe :)
<Begasus[m]> but already had this when checking a build in Terminal
<Begasus[m]> afk for a bit

<jmairboeck> looks like the C++ standard library. When using g++, it does that automatically, but I don't know exactly about clang(++)
<jmairboeck> does clang on Haiku use libc++ or libstdc++?
<Peppersawce> Ah right, using clang btw
<Peppersawce> g++ was failing
