tobhe_: Hey! Probably some old news for you, but I compared the firmware that I had extracted after applying latest Windows updates on T14s Gen 6 with the ones that were added to the linux-firmware project, and they were bit for bit identical – so next snapshot of linux-firmware, you can get rid of the firmware extraction at least on that device
<tobhe_>
lool: nice, thx! just need to find a way to migrate nicely from the extracted to packaged firmware

I guess you could post a real but empty deb with a higher version than the locally generated one, make it depend on linux-firmware >= someversion
<tobhe_>
on the t14s yes :)
<lool>
You could also sweet talk the kernel team to add some packaging changes so that the empty package eventually gets removed after upgrade :)

Huh, a week ago I mentioned RAM contained random numbers on boot, which seemed a bit odd. But x1e is advertised as having "total memory encryption", so I guess it's just selecting a new key on reboot.
<icecream95>
Probably the QARMA cipher (which pointer authentication uses). 8cx Gen 3 also advertises having memory encryption.

any bridge from here to Matrix? thanks
<Jasper[m]>
Molin: Yes
<Molin>
which room should I use in Matrix?
<Jasper[m]>
#aarch64-laptops as-is, should have a arm cortex-a76 pic
<Jasper[m]>
Hm, it's not showing me that as obviously as other chats

But I guess it makes sense

is there any wiki or website for the knowledge about linux on #aarch64-laptops?
<Jasper[m]>
It was github.com/aarch64-laptops for a bit, but info has scattered depending on the device. Do you have anything in particular you're looking for?

<Jasper[m]> "It was github.com/aarch64-..." <- thanks. not yet. I played Asahi with m1 Mac mini a bit. plan to try an aarch64 laptop soon. want to understand the boot story and etc for now.

assume UEFI is there, right?

calebccff: do you want/need a c630? I just realized the other day I still have one sitting gathering dust in a corner... could bring it to connect...
<calebccff>
rfs613: no i have one but don't boot it super often heh, thanks for the offer though!
<calebccff>
kept hitting issues getting the display to come up
<calebccff>
and, well tbh the performance is a bit less than i'd like
<rfs613>
i got an x13s and forgot about the c630 ;-)
<bamse>
reminds me that i should send that EC-enable patch to arch linux...only thing missing for a quite functional device last i tested
<calebccff>
btw what's needed for cpufreq on x1e? something scmi iirc? is it upstream?
<calebccff>
and is it enabled in defconfig?
<tobhe>
let me find some links...
<calebccff>
dont see anything cpufreq related in johans kernel
<tobhe>
I think one open problem is how we deal with broken firmware
<tobhe>
ah :) yes that one
<jhovold>
no patches for that yet, though
<calebccff>
makes sense to me...

albsen[m]: Thank you for your tip. But for 2200.- €uro i can get a Notebook with 32 thread processor and much interfaces from the noble Marke Tuxedo. I need a new 17" Notebook because my old have errors. I have a x13s and in this Moment is that enough with ARM64 Computers. I have also all Raspberry Pi's from model 1 to 5. So I have enough ARM Computers. I need more that 17" Notebook.

anthony25: if you want to go ahead and submit the Bluetooth patches upstream for the slim 7x, then please go ahead
<hogliux>
anthony25: I'm not finding the time to do it myself. Soonest I might have some extra time is in two weeks.
<hogliux>
anthony25: so if you want, feel free to submit yourself
<anthony25>
How can I send a patch for someone? I just keep the sign-off?
<hogliux>
Nah it's so small. Just change it to yourself
<hogliux>
I don't mind at all
<JensGlathe[m]>
I would say basically yes
<JensGlathe[m]>
but not experienced in this
<JensGlathe[m]>
maybe its co-developed by
<hogliux>
It's more work submitting it. So you'll be doing all the really hard work anyway.
<hogliux>
Please don't go through the hassle. Honestly. Just submit it under your name.
<anthony25>
I'll add you as co-developed
<anthony25>
Thanks a lot!
<hogliux>
Ok if that's possible then cool. If not, don't sweat it.
<hogliux>
Honestly the patch took me like 5 min to do
<anthony25>
Still, it's nice to keep your name in the contribution
