steev: yeah, I replaced my keyboard hoping to get the keyboard backlights to work and it was a whole lot of work to do. sadly it seems like I installed a keyboard that didn't even have a backlight keyboard because it didn't even end up working in the end.
<albsen[m]>
steev: did you check aliexpress. might get it for 20 instead of 55
<steev>
i did not
<albsen[m]>
did you get 64gb or 32gb in ur t14s?
<steev>
64
<steev>
64 with oled and w11 pro (because why not), was 1337 with my discount and i mean, that's obviously a sign, no?
<albsen[m]>
i have the same, it crashes ... a lot... I mean the x13s in the beginning did crash from time to time when ram was low. but this one is at a different level. I moved my work away from it for now.
<steev>
yeah, hopefully we can get our release out soon
<albsen[m]>
which release is that?
<steev>
2025.1
<steev>
kali linux
<steev>
then i can look at t14s stuff, but until then i can't be playing iwth it :(
<steev>
so it just sits there currently, blinking its led at me seductively
<albsen[m]>
:D
<albsen[m]>
do u have an iso I can try?

nope, we haven't even started cutting it yet, still working towards that (and it wouldn't have t14s support, only x13s)

Here's an updated wip branch for the X13s:
<jhovold>
JensGlathe[m]: hmm, still works fine here on the crd
<jhovold>
how reproducable is it?
<JensGlathe[m]>
100%
<JensGlathe[m]>
Will investigate later
<jhovold>
there doesn't appear to be anything in rc3 that would have caused it, so maybe try reverting to the previous version of lttpr support and the ps8830 driver
<jhovold>
seems a bit far fetched as the changes were small, but there was some reording of events done in the lttpr support

<Caterpillar>
so from what I understood from your messages, since X13s release date there has not yet been an improvement over virtualization support
<JensGlathe[m]>
Not quite. "its complicated" would be the more correct answer. You can run /dev/kvm on the X13s with slbounce, booting Linux in EL2. But you loose the remoteprocessors, since booting them relies on HYP (which gets replaced by slbounce and booting Linux into it). Without adsp, battery won't load. And dp Aldmode doesn't work. And sound. This is not the best outcome for the X13s, but /dev/kvm does work. I have a Windows Dev Kit
<JensGlathe[m]>
2023 running with it for a year now. The wdk has no battery and it has a minidp connector, so that's quite workable.
<JensGlathe[m]>
slbounce also works with x1e SoC.

I tried it quickly, I didn't see any issue, but didn't test DP Altmode
<JensGlathe[m]>
dp altmde doesn't work on the Thinbook 16 with 6.14-rc3, too
<JensGlathe[m]>
correction: hotplug doesn't work, booting with HDMI adapter appears to work

and basic Inspiron14 support - camera not working yet
<bryanodonoghue>
ov02c10 just compile tested unlikely to work first time but feedback appreciated
<marclaporte[m]>
<JensGlathe[m]> "same for the Thinkbook 16, but..." <- Jens Glathe: Any chance you could add your models here? https://aarch64-laptops.github.io/
<robclark>
jhovold: still hitting that same pci error when I rebase on your latest branch... and audio seems unhappy:
<JensGlathe[m]>
<marclaporte[m]> "Jens Glathe: Any chance you..." <- as a PR, will try
<jhovold>
robclark: do you see the pci error that often? I've only seen it twice or so here
<jhovold>
and audio seems to probe as before on the crd and t14s, I don't see anything soundwire related in rc3
<jhovold>
are you saying audio worked with your patches on top of my rc2, but not on rc3? on every boot?
<jhovold>
failing on every boot?

jhovold: I hadn't tried earlier 6.14 rc's.. re: pci error I see that on every boot AFAICT (but I first started seeing it on v6.13.. earlier 6.13 rc's were ok, there was some updated fedora packages in there somewhere, but not sure if before or after things broke, and not really sure how userspace updates could cause either of these issues)
<robclark>
so not quite sure what is going on

And dangit I forgot about how this channel doesn't like replies, sorry
<JensGlathe[m]>
You fell for the trap 😈
<JensGlathe[m]>
The bridge didn't mangle it, though
<farchord>
Jens Glathe: btw, you sent me an updated dtb for the vivobook, and Matrix decided not to allow me to download it anymore, can you resend?
<JensGlathe[m]>
in a moment
<farchord>
No worries not urgent

I've been shoveling most of the morning lol

<JensGlathe[m]>
oof
<steev>
dang
<steev>
it was 85F here the other day (29.4C for those who know real temps)
<JensGlathe[m]>
That’s near the danger zone for me
<farchord>
Jens Glathe: with that dtb, kinda looks like the bios's clock works now, battery is still a no-go though
<farchord>
and ofc, and you knew about that, sound's also not working XD but I know that's being worked on
<farchord>
Huh! USB-A works too! Nice!
<JensGlathe[m]>
And external display should, too
<JensGlathe[m]>
But not the HDMI connector
<farchord>
JensGlathe[m]: Well, that's a tiny bummer, but it wouldn't stop me from maining linux on it. Only sound is missing now, which is really nice
<farchord>
well, and camera.
<JensGlathe[m]>
HDMI is being worked on, too. We‘ll see
<farchord>
Btw I installed an updated firmware this weekend, adds alot more options in the bios
<farchord>
which is nice!
<JensGlathe[m]>
for battery you need adsp to be loaded
<farchord>
I heard Lenovo mainlined the firmware for their x1e laptop, anyone heard about Asus doing the same?
<farchord>
Jens Glathe: how do I do that?
<farchord>
I dont think I got blacklists set, lmc
<farchord>
Nope
<JensGlathe[m]>
if you boot from usb-c you need the blacklist for q6v5_pas
<farchord>
Jens Glathe: yeah, usb-a booting doesn't work. IT flashes blue for a bit, turn turns red, and simply turns off (The Led behind the drive I mean)
<farchord>
Drive is a Samsung T7 Shield SSD btw
<anthony25>
jhovold: does DP alt mode work on the t14s on your branch?
SpieringsAE has joined #aarch64-laptops

farchord: dual boot is what I did on my asus
<JensGlathe[m]>
hmm interesting. depends a little on the chipset used in the SSD enclosure.
<SpieringsAE>
just shrank the windows partition and put linux in that free space
<JensGlathe[m]>
I had an op booting the S15 x1p42100 from sdxc, just worked
<farchord>
I wish that laptop had two nvme slots lol
<SpieringsAE>
Never really tried booting from USB-A on the asus
<SpieringsAE>
yeah but it is pretty cramped in there
<SpieringsAE>
Soon I hopefully will have a functional sd-card slot
<JensGlathe[m]>
I can boot from USB-A on all x1 devices, sorta most reliable after nvme
<farchord>
yeah I'll have to play with that soon
<SpieringsAE>
farchord: about the firmware from asus in linux-firmware, my hopes are low
<SpieringsAE>
maybe I should start spamming them about it
<SpieringsAE>
only after my RMA is finished though lol
<farchord>
Meh well, all I gotta do is backup my firmware and hack it in everytime
<farchord>
not idea, but.... shrugs
<farchord>
*ideal
<SpieringsAE>
I add anonymix007s repos and install it from there
<SpieringsAE>
add it to sources and firmware is there to install, along with the kernel, I used that one as a fallback kernel for when I inevitably mess something up
<farchord>
I'll check at some point on porting that over to Fedora :)
