<mps> jannau_: you mean my changes to your HV config?
le0n has joined #asahi
<mps> I just disabled some FS drivers and changed fonts to terminus, and alpine doesn't use pahole
<mps> and I will try 'step by step' changes between current working and default alpine config
dmmcf has joined #asahi
<jannau_> no, between your non working config and the working config based on my HV one
<mps> I see some differences, FB_EFI for example
<mps> FB_MODE_HELPERS and FB_TILEBLITTING
dmmcf has quit []
<mps> I will change them 'step-by-step' to see if I can 'catch' one which doesn't allow boot
dmmcf has joined #asahi
dmmcf has quit []
<jannau_> FB_MODE_HELPERS/FB_TILEBLITTING is probably just an artifact from using the same config for DCP
<mps> aha, thanks for info
<mps> I'll try in few incremental steps to find problem
<mps> got it in first step, looks like it is change to # CONFIG_FB_EFI is not set

<ten15> Hello! I am interested in buying a Mac Mini with Asahi to use as a NAS. I am interested in connecting 8 HDDs over USB (using a hub), but was wondering, does Asahi support USB3 yet? If yes, on all 4 ports? Are there any other issues for my use case to be aware of? Thanks a lot!

<someonealreadyhasthatusername[> hello. how much of a priority is merging the necessary bits to the asahi installer to support full disk encryption? it is not on the feature support page so i can not tell if there is work in progress. things like fde and secure boot were mentioned in the alpha release article in march, that they will eventually come, but as i said its not on the feature support page so, anyone has any information on the topic? i am a noob
<someonealreadyhasthatusername[> so im waiting for the installer to support fde, actually thats the only thing stopping me from switching to asahi now.
someonealreadyhasthatusername[ has left #asahi [#asahi]
<nik875[m]> was wondering the same thing actually, fde is an important security feature

<ten15> j`ey: what about the three usb-c (thunderbolt) ports? do they support usb3?
<ten15> (or do they work at all)
<j`ey> ten15: they work at usb2
<ten15> gotcha, thanks. and the usb3 ports work with hubs, right?
<jannau> yes, they are drive by a standard pcie Fresco Logic FL1100 usb 3.0 host controller

<WhyNotHugo_> You can set up FDE manually if it's a blocker.
<WhyNotHugo_> I stripped out GRUB, since it's a huge pain for such setups, so probably switching to systemd-boot _first_ is a good idea.
<tpw_rules> WhyNotHugo_: are you still using nixos

<freakinamazing[m]> I turn on my bluetooth speaker, and look at my bluetooth connections. The speaker shows up as connected, but it never actually connects. The speaker just keeps repeating "power on, bluetooth" and never says "connected". This might just be a problem with the specific speaker.

<kode54> freakinamazing[m]: which sound server are you using for bluetooth?
<kode54> I find pipewire works a lot better for bluetooth, but you may already be using that
<kode54> (yes, I know bluez is involved in both cases)
<freakinamazing[m]> Looking now. Was trying to troubleshoot via bluetoothctl
hir0pro has quit [Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<freakinamazing[m]> It's pulse. Will try pipewire and see how well that works.
