tldr iirc was that there are changes being proposed for mutter and kwin on how they handle colour correction pending colour management stuff in wayland so we will wait and see where that lands

Does anyone know the kernel config / patches for my M1 BRCM4378 bluetooth controller?
<amw>
I can see the device with lspci - but it doesn't seem to have a driver enabled for it in the kernel and hence bluetoothctl doesn't see it

jannau: Thanks - hci_bcm4377 in drivers/bluetooth/hci_bcm4377.c

marcan is there a reason you use kate instead of vscode?

I should submit v2 of Bluetooth
<sven>
doesnt look like I got any comments from the maintainers for v1
<sven>
amw: is the device already called “Bluetooth controller” in lspci btw? I submitted a change request to pci-ids to include them and I wonder if they already released a new versions since then

@IcaroDextris, I use LXQT/XFCE, footprint smaller. I run Debian though.

<bluetail> "marcan is there a reason you use..." <- For me, using Kate on gnome with fractional scaling result in a too big windows, making it nearly unusable

I think everyone is noticing the growing vscode mono-culture and are curious about someone using an editor that isn't vscode (or one of the the more "hipster" terminal editors)

<ChaosPrincess>
a terminal version of vscode would be cool to have
<defolos[m]>
ChaosPrincess: that's very unlikely to happen
<defolos[m]>
if you look into vscode, you'll see that a big chunk of the UI is bound to having a DOM available
<defolos[m]>
which is not really there in the terminal
<pyropeter1>
elinks begs to differ
<defolos[m]>
yeah… JS is a thing
<defolos[m]>
elinks doesn't do JS very well
<phire>
Somewhat defeats the purpose. Being terminal based restricts the editor UI in ways, and part of the reason why vscode is popular is that it doesn't follow those restrictions
<marcan>
I think that's called emacs
<ChaosPrincess>
yea, i mostly use emacs, but using lisp is just terrible :P
<phire>
though with language server, you can get vscode quality syntax highlighting, competion results and other functionality in almost any style of editor
<defolos[m]>
phire: nah, Emacs UI is more or less comparable to VSCode and emacs works in the terminal just about as well as in the GUI
<phire>
lol, yeah. one of my complants about vscode is that it doesn't push it lack of terminal UI far enough
<phire>
I've been thinking about exploring text editors (and extentions) to try and find one that does open file navigation in a way that maps onto my brain better
<qyliss>
(I don't mind lisp and find some of emacs-ng's ideas mildly terrifying, but it's interesting!)
<ChaosPrincess>
thats cool, ill look at it
<ChaosPrincess>
if it is 'emacs-with-anything-but-lisp', its almost what i want
<mps_>
(OS name is Unix and its alias is vim) to paraphrase old saying ;)

so heavy
<phire>
it's one of the better electron apps. Very responsive. But yes, uses a lot of ram
<mini>
I don't find the core app itself is too bad, but by the time you've dumped in a few extensions for languages, the memory usage jumps significantly

<weapon_of_nix[m]>
i'm completely ignorant about this stuff but i was curious about what it is that macos does that allows it to remain running but only use ~.4watts with the screen off. is it what i have seen the blog posts refer to as CPU deep idle?
<weapon_of_nix[m]>
* seen the asahi blog posts
<opticron>
weapon_of_nix[m], CPU deep idle is not yet supported
<opticron>
it's on the short list for being worked on, though
<weapon_of_nix[m]>
i understand that, i'm just curious if that's whats doing it
<opticron>
ah, under MacOS
<weapon_of_nix[m]>
if that was implemented would that get the similar wattage results is what i'm asking
<opticron>
I expect pretty good "asleep" power usage, but I can't speak to any particular values
<weapon_of_nix[m]>
well, i'm not really talking about sleep. the computer is still on under macos and responding to requests even with that kind of ultra low power usage
<weapon_of_nix[m]>
i just was trying to understand more of what the blog calls "CPU deep idle" is. it's hard to find information about that online

Hi there. Searched the FAQs and forums to no avail. Does anyone measure the wattage of an M1 Mac mini when idle in a fresh installation of Asahi Linux?
<allerbest>
Looking for a economical but powerful Linux server, non-x86, so I want to know how many watts when idle
<kettenis>
with OpenBSD the SMC reports 5.75 W when idle
<kettenis>
Linux may be even lower
<kettenis>
those interested in non-UEFI "secure boot" may be interested in Simon Glass' "Verified boot for Embedded" series on the U-Boot mailing list
