your ability to easily recover from accidents if you smush your asahi partition, your ability to read/write the nvram (for now), your ability to easily boot NOT-asahi if stuff isnt working as expected, the list goes on
<chadmed>
removing it is not advised and you probably wont get much support from anyone here if you break something and cant fix it because you dont have a known-good macos partition

Hi, quick question - is it possible to create a bootable USB of Asahi Linux? The reason for this is I want to use the UEFI install option to boot from USB and go through the typical arch install process, but with full disk encryption

is 120hz support for the MBP display on the roadmap?
<aurelian>
pretty much the only thing that keeps me from using Asahi daily
nela has joined #asahi
<mps>
aurelian: it worked earlier but with some issues
<aurelian>
oh interesting
<mps>
it is intentionally forced to 60Hz
<aurelian>
yea I figured
<mps>
also I'm tempted to revert this commit and test
<jannau>
it was not working! the 120 Hz mode was limited to 60 swaps per second
bluetail3 has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]

ah, that is

I remember that xrandr show 120 Hz

I was also wondering there are potential scheduler tweaks to use the E-cores more. When idling, I see firefox getting scheduled on the P-cores and ramping up their frequency

<jannau>
feel free to revert the commit and test. from my understanding of how pro-motion works on macos I would expect that dcp has to do special things to refresh the display more than 60 times per second
<jannau>
which means that it is not going to work with the current Xorg
<mps>
jannau: I trust you so not in urgency to revert, and all works fine for me anyway

aurelian: im actually working on energy-aware scheduling at the moment
<chadmed_>
ive managed to capture accurate power consumption measurements for the cores which we were blocking on, but the scheduler just kinda isnt very good :/
<chadmed_>
its slow to move active/priority threads to the P cores and the transition takes forever which results in hitching
bluetail39 has joined #asahi
<chadmed_>
the actual distribution of threads is similar to what macos does now so its a step in the right direction
