[haikuports/haikuports] Begasus 205abec - kdsoap, cleanup, use libVersionCompat (#8292)
<jmairboeck>
Begasus: if you are coming as far as opencascade (in sci-libs) with your clean-up work: I'm currently updating that (it is building right now).
<Begasus>
not there yet ;)
<jmairboeck>
there is some cleanup regarding the cmake and make invocation there, I've done that too
<Begasus>
one is still in media-libs (large directory), other is busy in net-libs
<Begasus>
thanks!
<Begasus>
I'm keeping things on par here for the repositories, that way I'm uptodate with merged PR's
<Begasus>
but good to know you are doing the work there!
<jmairboeck>
what is the status of my other open PRs (libxml2, icu70 and texlive)?

<Begasus>
from my point of view they should be good to go, did you get a chance to see, if you can update icu to a newer version as waddlesplash suggested?

I haven't tried yet, maybe I could do that (after opencascade is done)

Just trying to run `pkgman` on HyClone on Linux.

Nice

Let me check

Nice project. Starred!

Haiku syscall emulation is quite interesting as the userland seems to be tightly coupled with kernel syscalls, unlike Linux where you can get many distros working at a reasonable level only with a small subset.
<PulkoMandy>
yes, we don't have a stable interface to maintain there. Our stable interface is libbe and libroot
<PulkoMandy>
syscall numbers may changes, arguments be added/removed, etc in every haiku release
<PulkoMandy>
on the oter hand linux has a stable interface at syscall level so they're really carefull to not add too much things to it

<trungnt2910[m]>
The fundamentals of HyClone itself are based on the fact that Haiku does not guarantee stable syscall numbers.
<trungnt2910[m]>
If apps starts to use raw inline syscalls instead of calling into `libroot` things will get much harder.

x512: Any 3d news? If I may ask?
<andreasdr>
Also ARM progress would be interesting to know. But I guess there is no progress currently.
<trungnt2910[m]>
If I understand correctly, _kern_transfer_area is a private Haiku API and only internally used by some system apps along with the ports API to efficiently transfer large chunks of memory?
<trungnt2910[m]>
Ahh never mind, I was thinking of queueing up the requests and then hook read_port to map all transferred areas if any, but the _address output parameter contains the newly mapped address so I must perform the map right away. I probably have to stick with the ptrace method then.

<Habbie>
good!
<Habbie>
distracted by non-haiku things these weeks
<Habbie>
and you?
<zdykstra>
hanging in there. Getting ready for biking season to start, so I'm excited about that.
<Habbie>
ohh that's nice
<Habbie>
four day weekend just started here, which is good
<zdykstra>
very nice.

If webkit starts using a newer icu, we end up having to ship two versions in the next haiku release for example. That's the kind of things I'd like to avoid

shouldn't be a problem when setting the correct devel package for ico for a build PulkoMandy ?
<Begasus>
s/ico/icu
<Begasus>
having them at haikuports shouldn't force Haiku to use any other then requested?
<mystified1234>
hwy Guys, yet to try Haiku, just curious is it possible to install or compile torbrowser on Haiku, if not is there another browser available that offers the same security that tor browser offers. Thanks. a Newbie

<zdykstra>
No, it's not possible to use or compile torbrowser on Haiku
<_Mystified>
So there is nothing similar ?
<_Mystified>
btw thanks zdykstra:

<zdykstra>
You can probably mangle something with a tor proxy on another host
<zdykstra>
But it'll be an imperfect solution that probably leaks
<_Mystified>
that make sense. Still not quite the same. again thank you.
