I think bug #18444 is fixed inside the beta series, and not inside the nightlies. (And maybe more than just that bug). It's not my call to call it fixed or closed.
<WildKeccak>
And #15440 is fixed, perhaps at some unknown time, because this computer hasn't been used for testing for a while.
<WildKeccak>
And therefore I can't say when it was fixed because of bigger problems.
<WildKeccak>
I think #18446 is invalid.

hello

I'm running Haiku on UTM QEMU, to remember the good old days of BeOS
<Eugenia>
I've been dreaming of BeOS lately... so I gave it a go.

<augiedoggie>
have you disabled all CSM options in your BIOS?
<augiedoggie>
ryzens are tricky to boot haiku on, it has to be EFI
<Halian>
I don't remember tbh; will check in a little while

augiedoggie: CSM was already disabled. Haiku's bootloader freezes before on-screen log output begins, even with safe mode enabled.
<waddlesplash>
that means bootloader/kernel handoff failed
<waddlesplash>
or the bootloader failed to even start the kernel
<Halian>
Well crud
<waddlesplash>
very hard to debug that
<Halian>
:(
<waddlesplash>
certainly not my area of expertise
<waddlesplash>
jessicah is the one who might know something
<Halian>
I'm gonna try again but flashing the ISO using a different tool, just in case™
<waddlesplash>
oh, hmm
<waddlesplash>
what did you use before?
<Halian>
Rufus v4.1
<Halian>
I haven't had issues with it before but who knows
<waddlesplash>
hmm
<waddlesplash>
Haiku ISOs are a bit atypical, they're really "anyboot" format, which is a custom thing of ours
<waddlesplash>
they can be booted via CD/DVD, USB, or just as a regular old hard disk
<Halian>
Ahh
<waddlesplash>
if Rufus tries to do something special thinking it's a plain "CD/DVD ISO" maybe things go wrong? I have no idea, I don't know anything about Rufus
<waddlesplash>
I've used Win32DiskImager before with success fwiw
<Halian>
Alright
<Halian>
Win32DiskImager won't open for some reason, so I'm going to try Etcher first

waddlesplash: still no luck. Not with Etcher nor with `dd`; not with beta4 nor the latest nightly. (And Win32DiskImager still crashes silently when I try to open it. yay /s)
<waddlesplash>
dd should be fine
<Halian>
Hrm
<waddlesplash>
ok, so something's weird about your bios I guess
<waddlesplash>
no idea what's wrong with our loader that it can't handle that
<Halian>
Weird

Halian: you can get into the boot menu?
<Halian>
jessicah: yeah
<jessicah>
have you tried disabling SMP?
<Halian>
Not yet
<jessicah>
I would try that, and a few of the other options in the safe mode menu
<Halian>
OK

jessicah: no luck getting Haiku to boot with SMP disabled, even in safe mode
<jessicah>
hmm
<Halian>
^
<jessicah>
shouldn't need "safe mode" enabled; did you try any of the othres? disable various apics, acpi, and ignore memory beyond 4gig?
<Halian>
I tried them all
<jessicah>
hmm, dunno then, kinda stuck without any debug output
<Halian>
I'm sorry :(
<jessicah>
it's not your fault
<Halian>
Is there anything else (e.g. an advanced debug option) I can try or?
<jessicah>
not sure; could try building the loader without switching to graphics mode
<Halian>
I'll be honest, I have no idea how to do that .w.
<Halian>
My computer has an MSI B550-A PRO motherboard and a Ryzen 5600X processor, along with a Radeon RX 570 GPU, for which I know I have to set VESA mode
Halian has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<jessicah>
it's weird that we're having issues on newish processors/boards

is over the moon with this one :)

I scurried off to try a fix that had worked for someone else on the forum (namely moving the flash drive to the boot order), and that didn't help for me; neither did disabling the TPM
<Halian>
jessicah: is there a runtime way to force the bootloader to stay in text mode?
