<HaikuUser> Hello is there a htop for haiku os
<HaikuUser> I successfully compiled htop but got system unsupported
<HaikuUser> The cool think is there is top but i want a better layout
<augiedoggie> there is a recipe in the ports repository but it's marked as untested
<augiedoggie> so, no build in HaikuDepot
<HaikuUser> how do i get to it?
<HaikuUser> i want to test it
<HaikuUser> maybe i need to look at top source code and see how that works
<augiedoggie> you'll have to install haikuporter and clone the ports repository if you want to test the recipe directly
<augiedoggie> but it's not doing any patching or anything so you could run the BUILD commands yourself
<HaikuUser> ok gotcha i'm going to work on this first thing in the morning

<KSPAtlas[m]> I installed haiku via the standard installer from beginning to end, intel partition table (cause i had tried that) and beos partition for haiku (~400gb)
<Begasus> can you boot it with the install medium you used (thumbdrive or the like)?
<KSPAtlas[m]> What do you mean?
<KSPAtlas[m]> You can use the thumbdrive you install with as a bootloader for another haiku install?
<Begasus> yes
<Begasus> hit spacebar or shift to go into the bootmenu

<KSPAtlas[m]> I'll try that

<KSPAtlas[m]> Yeah i made it in drivesetup

<KSPAtlas[m]> any way to get scrolling on touchpad
<Begasus> yeah nielx[m], had to mv some things around for jit lib and headers
<Begasus> just wanted to see if I could get it packaged, pretty complicated recipe there :)
<nielx[m]> It looks like we are nearing the point where the Haiku can be built with GCC 13
<nielx[m]> However, it does require at least the latest r1beta4, which I think the builders are not running (yet)
<Begasus> if so and if we want to get jit in it's now time to do it I guess :)

<HaikuUser> hello
<HaikuUser> how are you haiku users?

<|cos|> fancy2209[m]: does nix even have any haiku-support at all?
<waddlesplash> augiedoggie: wonderbrush v3 only uses Qt on Linux
<|cos|> oh. seems nix does know about haiku.
<fancy2209[m]> I also can't use the browser plugin cause neither Chromium or Firefox have a port yet
<|cos|> but that crate, ruffle, targetted wasm? not haiku?
<fancy2209[m]> It has a desktop version and a web version
<x512[m]> Any chance to get Rust nix on Haiku?
<fancy2209[m]> Nix has some form of haiku support according to the message above
<fancy2209[m]> |cos|: So it's missing?
<|cos|> fancy2209[m]: the way i read it, it's there. so i'm a bit lost on why it doesn't get found.

<fancy2209[m]> |cos|: Oh, weird
<fancy2209[m]> The crate it wanted to build was libloading
<|cos|> fancy2209[m]: can you do a `cargo tree` =
<Begasus> nice on cos :)
<Begasus> one*
<|cos|> the output should make the dependency graph a bit easier to read than merely the build log
<Begasus> not that it makes me happy though :P
<|cos|> i think it shows that libloading is not the culprit. the build log is likely several tasks run by cargo in parallell
<|cos|> according to `git blame` + `git tag --contains=d02e2747` haiku support was added in v0.25.0 of nix
<|cos|> there are a few older versions in the graph
<fancy2209[m]> So the issue is ruffle using a older version of nix?
<Begasus> 32bit buildmaster still down, 64bit almost done
<fancy2209[m]> <Begasus> "https://bpa.st/BBQQ" <- Everything here used 0.24.3
<|cos|> fancy2209[m]: in summary, yes. or actually, some dependencies of it does.
<|cos|> one could try `cargo update --package nix --precise=0.25.0`, but chances are some constraint is too tight
<|cos|> 0.24 is not semver compatible with 0.25, so it should fail
<Begasus> glad to have some expert for rust around :)
<fancy2209[m]> |cos|: So I'd need to update the deps or wait for the deps to update it?
<|cos|> Begasus: glad to be able to help with something i know (:
<|cos|> fancy2209[m]: you could always try helping the deps bump their dependencies.
<fancy2209[m]> I'm not very knowledgeable on rust but I could try
<|cos|> reading https://github.com/nix-rust/nix/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md shows that there are not too large changes resulting in the version bumps
<|cos|> i'm not initiated in what the dependenies do, but chances are most (or all) merely needs an upgrade of nix
<|cos|> as in, no actual functionality changes
<|cos|> fancy2209[m]: if you're up for giving it a go, clone the git repo of some of the smaller dependencies which depend on nix, bump the version number of nix in Cargo.toml and attempt `cargo test`. if it passes, chances are a PR might get easily merged.
<Begasus> closing down here, g'night peeps

<fancy2209[m]> wait, but all the libs related to nix seem x11 or wayland related
<fancy2209[m]> would these even be needed under Haiku?
HaikuUser has joined #haiku
<|cos|> fancy2209[m]: likely not. good find! then fixing the issue should need to involve less communication and more coding, or dependency wrestling
<fancy2209[m]> i'm not sure how to do it tough :/
<fancy2209[m]> I don't know rust
<|cos|> fancy2209[m]: opportunity to learn! (:
<fancy2209[m]> but where do I start?
<|cos|> fancy2209[m]: you saw the deep link i gave to the nix crate? you'd probably want to do something similar, conditional inclusion/exclusion of code depending on target
<|cos|> making sure no x11 crates are ever even attempted to build on haiku. maybe that's already the case, i dunno.
<|cos|> then for the Cargo.toml, the x11-related crates needs platform specific inclusion there too.
<|cos|> so, essentially `[target.'cfg(not(haiku)'.dependencies]` over all the problematic dependencies in Cargo.toml
<|cos|> (given that there is no target selection going on there already)
