<DanaG> Vulkan also doesn't work under WSL2 (not that I'd expect much horsepower). VK_ERROR_INITIALIZATION_FAILED followed by VK_ERROR_OUT_OF_DEVICE_MEMORY.
<DanaG> I was mostly just curious how well Veloren runs, since it's sort of an apples-to-apples with Metal on Mac and Vulkan on Windows and Linux.

<jhovold> steev: that not entirely correct, it's cut down to not build all drivers (e.g. usb) that someone may want to plug into the device
<jhovold> It's the config I use on my machine, so it's useful for quite a bit more

<konradybcio> jhovold's config + overlayfs makes it possible to run ubuntu desktop just fine

<_[m]1> lol wtf sabrent doesn't ship to europe, can I get anything huh
<_[m]1> <konradybcio> "jhovold's config + overlayfs..." <- why overlayfs too?
<_[m]1> in the end I couldn't resist and I bought a samsung go 5g /shrug
<_[m]1> but failed to check the delivery date lol it's arriving next month -_-
<konradybcio> snap
<konradybcio> not a fan but some packages are moved from the repo to snap :/
<_[m]1> I'm not against containers in most forms, I haven't yet un understood what's wrong with snap or flatpak imagething, except firefox add ons not working
<_[m]1> btw the kernel with ubuntu next boots fine too just need to fix audio
<clover[m]> the issue with snap is that it's closed source, and the only way to get the source code right now for any snap you install is through the closed source snap api
<Jasper[m]> Also the fact that it basically adds about 7 seconds of mandatory startup time to every snap app if it even wants to start at all

<konradybcio> steev scaring off newcomers with his monoglottism :D
<steev> i mean, i also speak ukrainian but in this case it doesn't help :P
<konradybcio> and you have a polish surname to top it off :D
<steev> indeed, but that's because i was adopted :D
<Jasper[m]> <konradybcio> "haven't had the startup time..." <- I'm stuck on 22.04 on a worklaptop
<Jasper[m]> Hmmm, one problem I've found on the X13s is that wifi is still very bad
<Jasper[m]> And in particular roaming doesn't work at all
<Bioxvirizm-x13s[m]> <steev> "i mean, i also speak ukrainian..." <- Охренеть
<steev> is it odd?
<Bioxvirizm-x13s[m]> steev: No, unexpectedly
<steev> my ex was ukrainian
<steev> she still is, but she was then too
<Bioxvirizm-x13s[m]> steev: We have something common=)))))))
<clover[m]> yeah i think snap fixed that infamous firefox taking 8 seconds to load bug
<clover[m]> it's still closed source and canonical is goofy for doing that
<Jasper[m]> clover[m]: When, and why is it not in 22.04
<DanaG> Snap is also bad at handling themes. I forgot whether Snap has has its own GL drivers the way Flatpak does.
<clover[m]> <Jasper[m]> "When, and why is it not in 22.04" <- it should be at least fixed in lunar lobster iirc. but idk i don't use ubuntu for desktop, ever
<Jasper[m]> Holy fuck this is so goddamn annoying.
<Jasper[m]> The wifi driver shat itself entirely so I had to reboot
<Jasper[m]> I'm now filling in my LUKS password for the 12th time because it simply doesn't boot
<Jasper[m]> NOTHING in journalctl
<Jasper[m]> NOTHING on the screen
<Jasper[m]> How do I fix this
<Jasper[m]> Seriously
<Jasper[m]> I need some way to debug this because it's driving me insane. I'm going on to tey 15 now
<Jasper[m]> *try
<konradybcio> i think it's the wifi driver for me as well
<konradybcio> the ubuntu 6.2 kernel always boots up fine, but my own sometimes dies as soon as i enter my user password
<Jasper[m]> It's LUKS for me
<Jasper[m]> It just hangs
<konradybcio> maybe try adding initcall_debug to see what driver tries to probe or something
<clover[m]> i use LUKS on arch (endeavour) and have no issues with wifi, and haven't had those reboots in maybe a month or so. sorry you are having issues
iivanov has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<Jasper[m]> Also @clover I dunno if the person maintaining the x13s page from fedora is in this chat, but they found something that's supposed to fix usb boot
<konradybcio> that works if you don't need adsp
<Jasper[m]> Well yeah it'll fix stuff for the boot image mostly
<clover[m]> <Jasper[m]> "Also @clover I dunno if the..." <- this is good to know! maybe a new version of archiso soon with a 6.5 kernel
<DanaG> Oh yeah, one thing I noticed on my Surface Pro X is that the UEFI lists tons of blk devices. Something like blk0: through blk27:. But whatever that device is, it isn't exposed in Linux.
<DanaG> The extra blk devices seem to be various firmware. Some of them have fat32 with .efi files, and some of them have fat32 with .mbn files. But I can't dump the non-fat32 ones without an EFI version of `dd`.
<DanaG> There's some efi version of dd that can write from file to device, but not from device to file.
<konradybcio> you're seeing the firmware partitions that are present on the secured spi
<konradybcio> which is exclusively accessed through uefi internal apis

<DanaG> Would dumping any of those be helpful for getting some firmware pieces that are currently missing, such as the things needed by rmtfs?
<DanaG> When I tried Archlinux on my Surface Pro X, it had a random MAC address each boot, and perhaps one of those partitions had the MAC address.
<qzed> I think I've dumped them at some point... not sure if I pushed them somewhere though. Probably not all that useful
