robclark changed the topic of #aarch64-laptops to: Linux support for AArch64 Laptops (Chrome OS Trogdor Devices - Asus NovaGo TP370QL - HP Envy x2 - Lenovo Mixx 630 - Lenovo Yoga C630 - Lenovo ThinkPad X13s - and various other snapdragon laptops) - https://oftc.irclog.whitequark.org/aarch64-laptops
<altacus> enyalios: thanks for the touchpad tip. I was able to get it back by press the reset button (next to the screw on the back of the laptop). Odd bug. If it's electrostatic, I think it's because of my youngest daughter, "typing" lol
<enyalios> yeah, its a very crazy bug
<altacus> enyalios: For ubuntu, you can get the 6.5 kernel by upgrading to Mantic. Just be sure to read the directions cause there are some manual commands that need to be run after the upgrade or else the system is unbootable.
<enyalios> i also had all he function keys stop working until i did a full reset like that as well
<enyalios> yeah i knew that you could upgrade to mantic
<altacus> enyalios: if pressing a button fixes it, I'm happy. Granted, some paperclips were harmed in the resetting of the x13s.
<enyalios> but everything i really care about works in lunar currently, and i didnt want to break anything
<enyalios> what i really want is to figure out why sound isnt working in gentoo, and id be a happy camper
<enyalios> i have very strong feelings about systemd and would love to move to my distro of choice that doesnt require it
<altacus> enyalios: w/Ubuntu, I would recommend upgrading, The Ubuntu team has been pretty good about ensuring the kernel updates and firmware updates go out at the same time (or fix it shortly after). The 6.5 kernel is MUCH better than the 6.2 kernel.
<enyalios> the hole next to the middle screw on the bottom is the reset button?
<altacus> enyalios: yes
<enyalios> nice, ill have to remember that, i kept using the detach battery function in the bios when i needed something like that
<altacus> enyalios: it probably ends up doing the same thing.
<enyalios> ill look into upgrading if i have time, but with a baby at home im pretty busy and sleep deprived
<enyalios> i hadnt prioritized it because i keep hoping that ill get sound working in gentoo, and then just blow away this install anyways
<enyalios> but i was super impressed with how well lunar worked
<enyalios> i couldnt find any other distro that had that much working when i got this last month
<altacus> I'm happy with the state of the x13s right now. But if hibernate works, that'll be huge. Better cpu scaling and gpu acceleration and web cam are all from making this complete.
<enyalios> agreed, its pretty great already
<altacus> enaylios: The ubuntu team did a good job. Granted, their implementation doesn't play well with Windows bitlocker.
<enyalios> hibernate isnt critical with how incredible the battery life is already
<enyalios> ah, i just blew away my windows install
<enyalios> and my previous laptop didnt have a webcam at all
<enyalios> so i can still wait on this one to work
<altacus> Battery is great, but I don't think s3 idle is working. On my intel laptops, I can close the lid for like 4 days and still have battery left.
<altacus> Hibernate is a good workaround until s3 is implemented. TBH, I have no idea if s3 sleep is even a thing with Qualcomm, lol.
<altacus> I do hope QUalcomm's budget cuts do not affect development for the x13s.
<altacus> If there's an 8cx Gen 4 version, with linux support, that may be peak laptop for me, lol
<altacus> as a note, on ebay in the US, I see a lot of x13s selling for about 500 USD
<cenunix[m]> altacus: wow thats kind've a steal
<enyalios> wow, crazy there are a bunch on ebay considering its only a 1 year old machine
<enyalios> yeah my laptop is my primary machine so its basically always on for me unless im like actively travelling somewhere with it
<enyalios> so i only need to sleep it for a few hours
<enyalios> but yeah my previous laptop i could suspend it for several days if necessary
<enyalios> but im sure well get deeper suspend or hibernate working eventually

<altacus> cenunix: crazy good deal IMO. I would buy another one but it would be really hard to justify another one. I think now that the p14 have the new ryzen cpus, I would have to go with that since it makes sense to go with something with more horsepower.
<altacus> enyalios: Really hoping we can get the deep sleep and hibernate. TBH, this is the first group of linux developers that have actually been accessible and I'm really enjoying the interaction.
<altacus> a random thought, the 8cx gen 3 would probably a really good chipset for a surface like device.

<enyalios> altacus: yeah its pretty incredible asking for help in here and getting assistance from someone doing kernel development for this machine or someone maintaining the patched kernel tree for it
<enyalios> you guys rock
<enyalios> or distro devs getting the installers working

<craftyguy> alrighty, I went for one. I hope to support a pmOS install on mine
<cenunix[m]> craftyguy: went for a x13s?

<jhovold> altacus: the x13s firmware does not support suspend to ram (s3), and afaik windows only uses suspend to idle these days
<jhovold> but we should be able to get to the s2idle power consumption down, currently at 30h
<jhovold> cenunix[m]: pcie aspm indeed makes a big difference (e.g. 4.5h hours of extra idle time, 10.30->15h)

<exeat> I've never had the touchpad lock up, but I did once get the Fn button to stop working while trying the Fn combos listed in the service manual with xev...
<exeat> IIRC it was triggered by Fn+s, which somehow emitted a zillion sysrq events with a single key press. The Fn button only started working again after disconnecting the battery in the BIOS.
<exeat> (I haven't been able to reproduce this)

<DanaG> If only the x13s had 120hz display (the way the Surface Pro 9 with 5G does), it'd be a a must-have.
<DanaG> Apple's 120hz display is incredibly smeary.

<clover[m]> ok cool looks like upstream modemmanager carries the fcc-unlock for the x13s modem, that makes it much easier for people
<clover[m]> now carries*
