Ho, and i18n has mostly gone, but I think this is a known regression

<Niklas[m]>
Has anyone else noticed a very slow startup of the Midnight Commander (mc) terminal tool on Haiku?
<Niklas[m]>
I use this tool excessively on all devices and normally it starts in less than a second,even on the RPi400 (OS on SD card) and cheap vServers,but on my Haiku machine (i7 CPU,fast SSD storage,no other stuff open) it takes more than 10 or 20 seconds sometimes.CPU usage is still near to zero while loading.
<Diver>
i think it is caused by dns lookup
<Niklas[m]>
Is it doing anything shady I should know?
<Niklas[m]>
I don't expect a file manager to do any DNS lookup o.O
<Diver>
try to google "mc slow start"
<Diver>
mc is built with smb support
<Niklas[m]>
I don't use Google,but I'll MetaGer it,thanks
<Niklas[m]>
Git clone was also slower than usual today on my Haiku machine,so that could be the reason,thanks.
<nephele>
humdinger: I had answered that in the renga room, it looks like you aren't there anymore. I did layoutify that file so you can include me yeah
<humdinger>
nephele: I should use Renga more often, sorry :)
<nephele>
as for the instance magic: that was there before and i just left it, i'm not sure if it should be used for the other dialogs or not, though consistency is probably key anyway :)
<nephele>
You can use Renga as an irc client aswell
<Scarecrow>
hmm, the installer is dropping into KDL on boot, any suggestions on getting it to find the filesystem? I'm using an IdeaPad S10e.
<nephele>
Scarecrow: Renga supports MUC, generally, but not many of the MUC moderation tools, stuff to set the topic etc
<nephele>
if you just want to chat in a MUC it is sufficient though
<Scarecrow>
ahh okay
* nephele
is doing that right now to talk here
<Scarecrow>
I'm currently using Gajim so :D
<nephele>
I sometimes use Gajim on ubuntu, but It's ui is very confusing to me
<Scarecrow>
gajim's UI is a complete mess
<Scarecrow>
hmm okay so while trying to read from my flash drive it's telling me
<Scarecrow>
error: failed to set device address

Is it possible to add custom CA certificates in Haiku? I found /boot/system/data/ssl/certs which seems like a reasonably place to put them but it's read only.
<humdinger>
How do I make Renga remember the group chats I had open before quitting the app?
<waddlesplash>
the equivalent non-packaged directory should work
<Scarecrow>
of course the BIOS in this machine has zero options >.>
<nephele>
TurboWafflz: Yes it is, i fixed that before... let me look up where you have to put it

Yes should be like waddlesplash sais B_SYSTEM_NONPACKAGED_DATA_DIRECTORY/ssl/certs/
* nephele
tries to figure out why that dir doesn't exist on his pc but the email client continues to work
<nephele>
Turbowafflz: there is a catch, though... some openssl command needs to be run explicitly after putting the file there, so it creates the apropriate symlinks
<nephele>
Ideally the OS should just do this for you, currently it doesn't :/
<humdinger>
waddlesplash: would you be the right person to bribe for getting "prominence" permissions at HDS? :)
<nephele>
I think it is "openssl rehash"

well, I can edit prominence myself
<waddlesplash>
but I don't see how/if I can bestow that power
<humdinger>
Andrew said it needs an admin team member.
<waddlesplash>
well, I don't see an option for it
<waddlesplash>
maybe it has to be done via CLI
<humdinger>
I can ask him for the exact procedure.
<Scarecrow>
hmm
<Scarecrow>
disabling EHCI and XHCI modules gets me to KDL faster, so that's ... something.
<waddlesplash>
not really
<waddlesplash>
try the latest nightly if you can't boot under usb3
<waddlesplash>
some changes made in the last week that might have made a difference
