AD_Anime2 is now known as AD_Haiku_onPC
<OscarL>
we use newest snapshots regularly all over haikuports, not sure why korli fixated on this particular one now.
<Begasus>
maybe with the zx-utils issue a bit more carefull now?
<win8linux[m]>
Hey there, Begasus!
<Begasus>
Hi there win8linux[m] :)
v_harkonnen has joined #haiku

Still working on a couple more recipes for today.
<Begasus>
np, the buildmasters will be busy for a while with the latest merges :)
<Begasus>
that didn't do it either OscarL, still the Walter logo :)

let's try to put this in UserBuildConfig

morning :) been a while since I tried Haiku installed but I've decided to find a laptop in my old but working pile to use for alternatives I like using as much as workbench... is there a good "what to do next" guide you'd recommend? it's all a bit sluggish I guess I need to find drivers or the hardware isn't supported and I need to try another machine from the pile...
<OscarL>
AD_Haiku_onPC: "hunting drivers" shoudln't be needed at all (most drivers available are already included).
<Begasus>
still nothing ...
<Begasus>
g'morning AD_Haiku_onPC, there is always the bugtracker to see if there is already a ticket for the hardware that isn't working
<OscarL>
if some hardware doesn't works, you might take a look at Trac (https://dev.haiku-os.org), to see if there's an open ticket alread for that.
<Begasus>
only ones bugging me so far is some missing drivers for wifi :)
<OscarL>
path of least resistance is, indeed, trying to find compatible hardware :-)
<AD_Haiku_onPC>
:( I guess I need to try another machine then because it's laggy as hell... I'll try with more RAM first as I had to hobble the machine so AMIthlon ran because that has a 1GB limit for the kernel on the install disc....
<OscarL>
ram limitations only apply to BeOS, not haiku.
<OscarL>
I've run Haiku 32 on 1GB and it was fine (on and old Sempron)
<OscarL>
(the socket 754 ones, not the faster AM2)
<AD_Haiku_onPC>
the machine it's installed on is a Celeron with a made for windows vista basic sticker...
<AD_Haiku>
I should look up the spec... HP Compaq 6720s...
<Begasus>
biab
<OscarL>
AD_Haiku: Ah, sorry, wasn't aware of "amithlon" (I thought it was a typo, as BeOS had some issues with both the amount of RAM and Athlon CPUs :-D)
<OscarL>
Celeron M530 ?
<AD_Haiku>
Yeah it's what I originally dragged the machines out of storage to try... but it doesn't see any of the SATA drives and I don't seem to have any reliable IDE spinning rust for the 1 machine that it sees the harddrive on...
<OscarL>
Single core performance seems almost double than my Atom N450, so it should be enough for basic stuff (as long as you don't intend to watch youtube on that :-D)
<AD_Haiku>
I got youtube sorta working on falkon... 360p wait for is to buffer
<AD_Haiku>
*it
<OscarL>
cool! My poor Atom netbook can't do any of that (even less so on Haiku... can play 720p *local* files just fine in Win/Lin at least).
<coolcoder613>
AD_Haiku: My first Haiku machine is similar, HP Compaq 6830s
<AD_Haiku_onPC>
the 3 machines I could get to easiest in storage are what I dragged out... IBM Thinkpad R31 (256MB RAM, IDE HDD), this HP & a higher end HP which has screen issues... right 3rd has artifacts that look like damaged old film...
<AD_Haiku_onPC>
hopefully it's just a connector but I probably have a spare screen or 12 cos I'm a bit of a computer hoarder...
<botifico>
[haikuports/haikuports] Begasus 890fec9 - binwalk, bump version (#10307)
<Begasus>
got a green light there ;)
<AD_Haiku_onPC>
is it easy enough to get Haiku to dual boot with windows? I'm about to refurb my last machine so the wife can use it... i5 HP Zbook 15u G3... 16GB RAM, 250GB nvme... though I guess I could try on her current machine which is basically a 11in Celeron netbook with a 32GB emmc
<Begasus>
dual booting with Win11 here AD_Haiku_onPC, although not the basic setup ;)

<augiedoggie>
you can probably merge axel's app
<AD_Haiku_onPC>
I might play a little and then dual/triple boot my daily driver... i7 4060 :) 500GB :( might throw a better nvme in the 2nd slot and move win 11 and add a couple of decent OS' that maybe don't annoy the crap out of me all the time...
<augiedoggie>
eh, i'll merge it since i'm looking at it :P
<Begasus>
this is the script I use to build/update the image: https://bpa.st/EJOQ

add '--distro-compatibility official' to the configure line

is getting tired. Hit BOTH "waiting for package to activate" AMD "waiting for package to deactivate" while building ncurses6-20240330 on 32 bits.
<win8linux[m]>
Didn't Godot used to have Haiku support?
<win8linux[m]>
What happened to that?
<OscarL>
win8linux[m]: godot_x86 (2.1.6-2) still on the repos. The 3.0.6 recipe is disabled for some reason.
<OscarL>
win8linux[m]: seems it was disable for x86 in 2018, and might have been accidentally disabled for 64 bits in 2021 (as part of a "mega commit" updating archs to use "all")
Forza has joined #haiku
<OscarL>
mmm, seems it was disabled for 64 bits before that. /me meeds better blame interface :-D

yeah, it got disabled on 2019, as part of PR #3976.

<win8linux[m]>
huh
<Begasus>
dustrac is merged amongst one of them I think?
<OscarL>
win8linux[m]: Begasus adds some of our haikuports forks, and then he gets a bit overwhelmed by the number of branches he sees :-D
<Begasus>
git fetch * :P
<Begasus>
easier then grabbing them :P
<OscarL>
you could also just checkout PRs individually as branches. At least for me, that's easier to use/cleanup.
<Begasus>
win8linux[m], there is a svg icon in there that you can make into a rdef file :)
<Begasus>
biab, dogs :)
<win8linux[m]>
Ah right, will get to cleaning up the branches now.
BrunoSpr has quit [Quit: Vision[]: Ich wurde eingeweicht!]

I just have a "checkout_pr" function on my profile/bashrc, that does "git fetch $1 pull/$2/head:pr/$2 && git checkout pr/$2"
<OscarL>
"checkoout_pr upstream 666", works great for me when wanting to check PR made by others on HaikuPorts.
mr_lou has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Begasus>
that's good for a working fork OscarL, the one I'm doing this with is a fork that only contains the repos and recipes, that way I can push something upstream if things get stuck upstream :)
<OscarL>
no need to push anything. it is just a checkout, after all. In any case... do what works best for you :-)
<OscarL>
(for me, having those branches named "pr/666" or the like would be enough to avoid pushing them up :-D)
* OscarL
put some "The Cranberries" playing in the background to help calm down a bit... ended up tear-eyed :-/
<OscarL>
if the app doesn't directly links to libgl... sounds a bit weird to me but... what do I know.
<Begasus>
hp will give a policy error if you don't include it (in strict mode)
<Begasus>
OscarL, patches welcome? ;)
<OscarL>
Policy error sounds reasonable if the app DOES links with libgl.
<OscarL>
If it is just the qt libs the ones that link to libgl... oh well... I'm not touching them anyway so... :-D
<Begasus>
it probably indirectly links to it with qt?
<Begasus>
tss ::P
<OscarL>
we don't list transitive dependencies usually, right?
<OscarL>
yay! could still compile stuff with ncurses6_x86_devel... /me pushes changes, and hopes to never see that recipe again! :-P

Actually I'm going to close my PR and make a follow-up that just adds an icon to the existing recipe.

moving it to qt6 still sounds like a good thing, thou. no?

<Anarchos>
Begasus: i think all is there now :)
<win8linux[m]>
Regardless, think I actually prefer writing out the CMake dir flags. It makes it clearer where files are being put into.
<win8linux[m]>
Better for referencing later on in future recipes.
<Begasus>
it's not obligated win8linux[m], just makes it easier (just like runConfigure for autotools) :)
<win8linux[m]>
Ok, but FWIW autotools is far more painful IMO which justifies making use of any way to make it easier.
<win8linux[m]>
:P
<Begasus>
heh
<Begasus>
Anarchos, so far looks OK to me, running a new build here
<win8linux[m]>
It's more painful and possibly a security risk, especially with the xz incident showing the risks of executable code in build systems.
<Anarchos>
Begasus: \o/

$appsDir is also in $PATH win8linux[m], so it won't change anything in regard of that (I think) :)
