nothing but timeouts

larich.oftc.net will see

<kallisti5[m]> "F*ck if I know. I had the same..." <- Damn haha, sorry about the ping then. I thought you were the one usually handling Haiku infra in general.

Yeah M3dEyes[m], but that's also "considered" an app :)
<Begasus>
I still think (imho) that they should keep KF5 apps on Gear23, now it's confusing and some libraries are not moved to KF6 too, or share the same libname/soname, so makes it hard to co-install

<PriyanshuGupta[m]>
hello everyone
<erysdren>
hello!
<PriyanshuGupta[m]>
does Haiku shell have file command on it
<erysdren>
i think so
<PriyanshuGupta[m]>
or any other way to verify a file type
<erysdren>
let me see
<erysdren>
yes, it has the file command
<PriyanshuGupta[m]>
i have compiled a development build and it's showing command not found
<PriyanshuGupta[m]>
can you suggest what I should do
<jmairboeck>
It could be that it is not installed, you can install it with `pkgman install cmd:file`
<erysdren>
maybe its a package you have to install, i'm on R1B4
<erysdren>
yeah
<PriyanshuGupta[m]>
okay let me try
<PriyanshuGupta[m]>
thank you
<PriyanshuGupta[m]>
:)

x512[m]: regarding your list: tex_gyre works for me with the current URL in the recipe. I just checked by removing the download and flags and rebuilding it.
<x512[m]>
Some items can be spurious. If download+checksum works fine, you can just put check in checkbox.

nice to be back in haiku
<toydragon>
was over in linux land for 3 weeks waiting on a tool to process twitch spambots to complete lol
<toydragon>
their API limits suck, 25 days to process 16 million entries
<phschafft>
hm. :(
<toydragon>
also their moderations tools suck, having to need to add 16 million blocks myself thru their API lol.
<toydragon>
anywho, how's things been in the world of haikuos the past month-ish?

Good morning
<coolcoder613_32>
Hi ToyDragon
<toydragon>
hey coolcoder613_32!
<coolcoder613_32>
What's up?
* phschafft
also waves to coolcoder613_32 and provides cookies.
* coolcoder613_32
grabs some before they all disappear
* coolcoder613_32
explains that imaginary IRC cookies do that a lot
* toydragon
also grabs some
* jn
nom
<phschafft>
:))
* toydragon
bytes one of the cookies
* coolcoder613_32
nibbles his, then bytes, then,,, umm... uint16s it?
<phschafft>
back in my days a byte only had six bit!!!!111 ;)
<coolcoder613_32>
And how many bits did a nibble have?
<rennj>
that's a weird nibble
<rennj>
ax ah al
<toydragon>
Now that i'm done that task, tho, i can start digging into trying some coding for haiku
<toydragon>
dunno wha ti'll make yet, depends on what annoys me i come up with an idea for lol
<phschafft>
coolcoder613_32: I think a nibble was always 4 bit.
<coolcoder613_32>
And was it bytes, words, or text that was 6-bit?
<phschafft>
bytes. the term byte is not strictly defined. that is why we use octet in standards for 8 bits.
<phschafft>
also why C has *int8_t in addition to char.
<rennj>
this mythical ISA. more likely ternary
<rennj>
and that's being kind

ToyDragon: What languages do you program in?
<toydragon>
i've mainly done scripting but i've been wanting to get more into compiled stuff. perl and php were my mainstays for a number of years, tho i find i can adapt decently to most languages if a task is intriguing enough :)
* coolcoder613_32
likes Rust
<coolcoder613_32>
But Python, MicroPython in particular, is nice too
<toydragon>
rust is decent. need more time with it
<toydragon>
ehhhh i dont get along with python
<toydragon>
great language, hate the enforced whitespacing
<toydragon>
I tend to break stuff down into puzzle pieces and then move them into place and having to fix the whitespacing for each line i move around as i'm assembling the "puzzle" is /frustrating/
<toydragon>
well, i usually like something light like kate, nano or mcedit on terminal for writing scripts on remote systems. Kinda adverse to IDEs due to a number of shite experiences with bloated things that made my hardware suffer :)
<coolcoder613_32>
Try turbo
<coolcoder613_32>
or even tilde
<toydragon>
i see turbo in repos, don't see tilde there. will try tilde on other systems :)
