<PulkoMandy>
Yes, I've been busy with my paid job the last few days... But I think we found the problem I was investigating there, hopefully today it's a bit quieter
<PriyanshuGupta[m]>
I can't seem to find a problem with the caching in Read support Submitted a patch for suggestions purposes. Can studying the Bfs help me in this?

<dovsienko>
hello folks
<coolcoder613_hl>
Hi dovsienko
<zard>
o/
<dovsienko>
I came cross a weird difference in behaviour between bfs and ramfs, does anybody remember anything particular in this regard? or maybe this is the expected behaviour, before I open a bug report
<_-Caleb-_>
coolcoder613: now in my favs on my RSS feed agreggator 😊
<coolcoder613>
Which do you use?

<zard>
I use akregator
<dovsienko>
in particular, /bin/install <sourcefile> <destinationfile> can be performed multiple times on bfs and it works regardless of how many times you run it
<dovsienko>
however, when the destination is on ramfs, the first time /bin/install works, but the second time it treats the existing destination file as if it is a destination directory, and then appends the destination file name one more time at the end, and fails

if this does not remind anybody of anything particular, it will become a bug report
<Begasus>
zard, using akregator too here :)
<coolcoder613>
In Haiku?
* zard
never used install before, so, doesn't remind me of anything :-P
<coolcoder613>
Doesn't a lot of `make install`s use it?
<Habbie>
they do
<coolcoder613>
Or is that mainly with auto*?
<dovsienko>
yes, that's the one from GNU coreutils
<Begasus>
yep in Haiku
<Habbie>
dovsienko, it sounds like whatever install looks at to decide what to do might be reporting something different
<dovsienko>
Habbie: I suspect there's something very specific to Haiku RAMFS because the same Makefile has been working on all other OSes and on BFS in Haiku
<Habbie>
ack
<Habbie>
strace might reveal it?
<dovsienko>
the only thing not immediately obvious is whether this is expected
<Habbie>
are you sure that in the 'directory' case, install is getting the right number of arguments?
rennj has joined #haiku
<dovsienko>
Habbie: that's a good idea (I was reluctant to dive into debugging the source)
<dovsienko>
BFS: open(0xffffffff, "/tmp/tcpdump.1", O_DIRECTORY, 0x0) = 0x80006005 Not a directory (1311 us)
