Hello, has anyone managed to get Guix SD running on Asahi? If so is there an example system definition and a rough path of what you did to get it working? (I can't seem to build an aarch64 installer system image on any of my machines)

the major change is the asahi kernel repo and config, it's a pretty normal nixos experience otherwise. i am completely unfamiliar with guix sd except the knowledge that it shares philosophies with nixos

i added some bonus stuff to manage the asahi boot components and firmware too but that is not hard to do manually or completely ignore for your first attempt

i also cut down the default nixos installer iso considerably to make it easy to cross compile

(I have never used nix) So it seems that you defined an installation system image that gets built to install it on a blank bootloader only Asahi install, did you have to cross compile from an existing NixOS machine or were you able to build using the macOS version of Nix?

yes. it's cross compilable from any linux machine running nix. there have been attempts to cross compile from macOS but it's not really practical now

Oh ok, so you did cross compile, I think that is currently where I am having the most trouble. Building in a VM on mac seems to fail an be very slow. I guess I will try to cut down the Guix installer and continue my cross compile attempts (seems to take over 12 hours at which point I stopped it because it seemed to have frozen)

UTM using apple's hypervisor stuff runs very well for me, i can compile it natively too there

Oh ok, maybe I'll give that another shot, I think something broke because I did it in a UTM VM with rosetta enabled, so maybe it'll work second try.

No, they only build x86_64 images unfortunately, I think it has something to do with too many system configurations available.
