<j`ey> it's already implemented in the -edge kernel
<bcrumb> yup, going to wait on package release because i know i will break something otherwise

* bcrumb breathes heavily
<bcrumb> so pacman -Syyu at it again, this time with a calamares twist
<bcrumb> running pacman -Syyu this time triggered calamares (which should not have been installed in forward??? did it install it while running Syyu with the group even though I removed it? need to burn that thing with fire)
<bcrumb> calamares forced me to make a user, which in turn when thinking i should have wiggled out of but i didn't know better
<bcrumb> now, root is inaccessible from the created calamares user, and root wrote over the fucking sddm config file
<bcrumb> *calamares wrote over the sddm config file
<bcrumb> i can't believe i cannot su into fucking root from that user
<bcrumb> at least this time around i have full FS backup
<bcrumb> FUCK CALAMARES
<j`ey> what does pacman -Qi calamares show?
<bcrumb> nothing right now, sorry i needed to vent
<bcrumb> i need to break into root now
<bcrumb> i am talking from mac and looking how, i dont have su perms from that user
<bcrumb> i still have my live usb, ok time to wipe this program off of my memory for good

<bcrumb> yeah, so this is a nightmare, m1n1 is hanging on proxy something and doesn't even want to boot, my old m1n1 stage 2 simply doesn't want to enter post entering proper password for cryptsetup, and the current one boots into this calamares user immediately
<bcrumb> and this calamares user wiped sddm obviously, so it's being launched from somewhere else as the first user
<bcrumb> and this calamares user cant user sudo, sudo su, su or anything at all to gain permissions
<j`ey> if your're entering a password, you're already passed m1n1, on the cryptsetup thing
<bcrumb> it has concatenated kernel initramfs etc.
<bcrumb> i simply don't understand why the new m1n1 hangs on proxy something
<bcrumb> i just found an old one lying around
<bcrumb> time to dive again

<BRCUMB> yeah so even old m1n1 is hanging at that Loading proxy...
<BRCUMB> if i just knew how to break into root from a normal user without privileges
<BRCUMB> whenever i searched on browser it gives me no result, it would be funniest if the browsers are filtering these types of requests
<BRCUMB> and also, for some reason the hostname of the device is changed... so it also wrote over that
<BRCUMB> did possibly write over the su username is the question, does calamares have those permissions???
<BRCUMB> so, not the su username, i mean the su root password
<BRCUMB> and if so does someone know the default calamares root password? but wasnt it mentioned there wasnt one? i tried it and it didnt work

<bcrumb> So I managed to eventually get into root but now I need to find what files were fucked by calamares, autologging me into my normal user even when I configure SDDM, it messed with my settings and now I need to find the diff
<bcrumb> in fact it does not let me log into root from the start prompt
<bcrumb> and i need to go into the user, then through it into root
<bcrumb> what did this unholy program change by god

<bcrumb> i dont understand where calamares changed the default boot user???
<bcrumb> that is really the only thing i need right now
<bcrumb> or rather, why the fuck is autologin not working
<bcrumb> sddm has autologin properly set up but it doesn't work, it's booting into X11 instead of wayland
<bcrumb> A
<bcrumb> it might have fucked the sddm installation into sddm instead of sddm-git...

<bcrumb> yeah so it seems i was using a pyenv python 3.10.7 version while installing and for this reason during upgrade asahi_firmware.update didn't run properly, but now running manually and regenerating initramfs + building stage 2 binary still does not load firmware
<bcrumb> the same error as above
<bcrumb> i suppose python -m asahi_firmware.update /boot/efi/asahi /boot/efi/vendorfw/firmware.tar /boot/efi/vendorfw/manifest.txt /usr/bin/update-vendor-firmware is outdated and the last 2 arguments are not being taken any longer
<bcrumb> i've also simply tried running pacman -U on the package again but that didn't help either

<bcrumb> i didn't find this same error in dmesg ... i need to check syslogs now and copy
<j`ey> I meant from the asahi-fwextrac script
<bcrumb> there was no errors, everything executed well
<bcrumb> then i regenerated initramfs and built the m1n1 stage 2 again with concatenated
<bcrumb> let me try again if i can find something
bcrumb has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<j`ey> maybe your initramfs doesnt have the right hooks in it (the asahi hooks), not sure
<j`ey> also double check that the firmware actually isn't in /lib/firmware/
bcrumb has joined #asahi
<bcrumb> j`ey: ok i doublechecked, the locale dates confused me, there is something, here a pastebin link, its short: https://pastebin.com/zuGXKKJK
<bcrumb> i will check lib/firmware
<bcrumb> i will also check mkinitcpio but i haven't changed it since install only if pacman upgrade changed it... which i doubt because i'm able to log in
<j`ey> also check your esp partition for a vendorfw directory, that should have a .cpio in it
<bcrumb> yeah its right there
<bcrumb> i could try downgrading m1n1?
<j`ey> that wouldnt change things
<j`ey> bcrumb: so did you check /lib/firmware?
<bcrumb> on it right now, had to eat something and checked vendor from my os, one second
bcrumb has quit [Quit: Page closed]
bcrumb has joined #asahi
<bcrumb> j`ey: /lib/firmware is full of stuff
<bcrumb> it's definitely not empty
<bcrumb> would this error theoretically be thrown if device trees are not found?
<bcrumb> i doubt it right?
<j`ey> the device tree is definitely there
<bcrumb> right
<j`ey> check /lib/firmware/vendor/brcm/*
<bcrumb> alright
bcrumb has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
bcrumb has joined #asahi
<bcrumb> j`ey: /lib/firmware/vendor/ is empty
<bcrumb> this means that asahi-fwextract failed despite saying that it was successful maybe?
<bcrumb> also of note is that when calamares started it's thing post update... there was actually a screen
<bcrumb> its far fetched it has anything to do with this but idk
zzywysm has joined #asahi
<j`ey> fwextract creates the fw cpio etc, it's not what the initramfs uses to put the fw in the right place
<bcrumb> so this could be initramfs?

<j`ey> bcrumb: youre just using the reference distro right? because someone had a similar issue, and it was related to them trying to put systemd in the initramfs

<bcrumb> j`ey: the only systemd thing is systemd-encrypt for unlock cryptsetup, and this has worked very well without anything
<bcrumb> *unlocking
<bcrumb> happening
<bcrumb> ... i'll check my snapshot how my firmware looked before
bcrumb has quit []
bcrumb has joined #asahi
<bcrumb> the problem with my snapshot is that i accidentally ran a chown -R root:root on the directory and quickly exited it which means that some permissions from the first directories changed which could affect the system, since i don't know which programs users need, so i can only selectively choose stuff from the snapshot
<bcrumb> i would otherwise just copy the entire thing in, damn sometimes things simply add up in such a stupid manner, also, i must excuse myself for being ultra angry earlier (also sorry to the calamares package, it's a program but it still has a soul i guess)

<malte> hi all, i've just set up NixOS with the latest asahi kernel and i'm thoroughly impressed, thanks for your great work! the only thing that bugs me right now is that chromium's built-in pdf viewer always crashes for some reason. is this a known issue? if not, do you have any ideas how to debug this? thanks!
<tpw_rules> hi, did you use my work?
<malte> yup, thanks a lot!
<tpw_rules> which machine?
<malte> M2 MBA
<tpw_rules> ah ok, cool. i don't really have any ideas for the chromium issue. i use firefox. i wonder if anybody using the official distro has a similar issue?
<tpw_rules> chromium had a lot of issues with 16k kernels in the past and unfortunately the 4k patch does not apply to the latest kernel
<thasti> it has (same pdfium issue here on asahi)
