The installed arch on this USB stick boots, but it cannot detect the wireless NIC (iwctl adapter list returns nothing). Before login it is prompted that “unable to load firmware; tried ‘brcm/brcmbt………..-apple.madagascar-u.bin’ and ‘brcm/….-apple.madagascar.bin’”, and running “journal -xe” gives many of lines "spi-hid-apple-of spi0.0: read package crc mismatch". Is there a way to fix this?

there should be a firmware package on efi system partition, extract it to lib/firmware
<ChaosPrincess>
and the spi-hid can be ignored, it is harmless and not related
<ChaosPrincess>
and maybe rebuild initramfs? not exactly sure about that one tho

hello, just installing asahi. During the install it asked me for a firmware version. Gave the options of 12.3 or 12.4 . I had a look at my macOS version, appeared to be 12.5 . So I chose 12.4 . Then I decided to search and found https://asahilinux.org/2022/07/july-2022-release/ . So I think I choose the wrong firmware version. Can I rerun the installer to fix this? Should I be using 12.3 if it looks like
<kallisti>
I am on mac OS 12.5?
<kallisti>
Do I need to install from main to find a supported firmware version?
<ChaosPrincess>
what step of install are you now on?
<jannau>
you have to repeat the installation for using 12.3 as stub/firmware version
<kallisti>
Do I need to `sudo rm -rf /tmp/asahi-install/` before installing again? I will loook at the partitioning cs now
<kallisti>
Press enter to shut down the system.
<kallisti>
ChaosPrincess: ^^ That's the install step I am on. Looks like the installer finished
<jannau>
kallisti: at that stage it's probably the best to complete it before startig from scratch
<jannau>
are you planning to use the installed system seriously or do you just want to look at it
<jannau>
i.e. if don't really care if you have to redo the installation later you can take a look with 12.4
<jannau>
it will work but we can not guarantee that all upcoming drivers will work with the 12.4 firmware
<kallisti>
jannau: hmm yeah well i guess i would rather just have a functional installation
<ChaosPrincess>
jannau: i think they would have to, cause m2
<kallisti>
jannau: reading the partioning-cheatsheet it looks like i could wipe the partitions with the "dirty script" and re-run the installer. Would that be a reasonable course or should I reboot, then reinstall?

<kallisti>
should i reboot, follow next steps then reinstall

<jannau>
kallisti: yes, that seems to be the safest option. I think it should be possible to to abort and manually cleanup but I don't know how if you could end up in a state which requires manual fixup
<kallisti>
jannau: thanks, i will try it. Then I will come back online when I get something setup..

jannau: looks like i booted into asahi using the 12.4 firmware. I don't however see any network interfaces on the device other tha loopback
<ChaosPrincess>
anything suspicious in dmesg?
<kallisti>
looks like brcmfmac has firmware load errors
<kallisti>
perhaps due to the 12.4 firmware option?
<ChaosPrincess>
post the whole list of errors
<ChaosPrincess>
it usually errors 2-3 times while it matches, and thats normal, the question is if it succeeded at last
<kallisti>
looks like they all failed with error -2
<ChaosPrincess>
update-verndorfw and reboot
<kallisti>
ChaosPrincess: Thanks!
<kallisti>
Anyone installing sway or i3 on top of the KDE desktop install?
<ChaosPrincess>
it sounds like missing firmware, but im not running arch, but rather custom semi-broken gentoo-based something, so my help might be limited:P
<kallisti>
ChaosPrincess: it worked
