Quick question: after updating I found that Night Color works (yay!) but when I try to set it to custom times the "Begin night color at" and "Begin day color at" fields do not seem to be modifiable. Does anybody else have the same issue?
<ayke_>
(I'm on the edge kernel, for what it's worth)

ayke_: overwrite from the beginning via keyboard works here
<ayke_>
oh, right, that seems to work yes
<ayke_>
I tried to modify it like a regular text field (select some text and overwrite it, or backspace it away). That didn't work.
<ayke_>
Also tried the arrow keys, which didn't work either.
<_jannau_>
colors might be not exactly what you expect

Seems to be about right for me (Macbook Pro M1 16") - but testing this during the day so it might look differently when it gets dark.

Using Firefox and chromium: Is it just me or is https://www.google.com/maps a bit laggy? https://earth.google.com/web on the other handy is very very responsive and works great. Is it possible google maps not using webgl?

night color works? is it in software or hardware? I tried xsct and xgamma tools but no one works
<mkurz>
mps: night color works forme
<mps>
mkurz: what tool you use to set it
<mkurz>
kde settings
<mkurz>
System Settings - Display and Monitor - Night color
<mkurz>
If is set always on an apply that the screen switches to night color. Using macbook pro 14" with the pro cpu
<mps>
mkurz: thanks, but I don't use kde
<ayke_>
AFAIK it only works on KDE (and even required some patches to work in KDE). I'm using Wayland, not sure whether it works on Xorg.
<jannau>
to my knowledge only kde's night color works. the dcp driver doesn't implement gamma LUT but only a CTM and kwin is the only known application which uses that as fallback for night color
<iaguis>
mkurz: same for me (google maps). It works fast (especially on chromium) but there's stuttering every couple seconds or so and it stays stuck for a bit
<j`ey>
jannau: is that software emulation then or something?
bps2 has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<jannau>
j`ey: no, just a different method (supposedly more efficient) to implement it in HW. macOS' night light does the same
<j`ey>
ah
<mkurz>
iaguis: exactly, sometimes it also does not react on clicks
<nsklaus>
ooh new blog entry
<nsklaus>
yay ! opengl3.1 and transform feedback

is there a way to get some basic palm rejection? These trackpads are huge, and accidental inputs keep interrupting me
<mort_>
using KDE Wayland
<jannau>
mort_: did you enable "tap to click" in KDE's touchpad settings? try disabling that
<mort_>
I guess that's a workaround in lieu of actual palm rejection
<jannau>
we've disabled libinput's palm rejection via quirk since it was confusing user since it disables touch input on the top, left and right edge
<mort_>
interesting that people are reporting that it already does palm rejection in firmware, my touchpad very clearly doesn't seem to
<mort_>
now that I disabled tap to click, it's less disruptive, but the cursor still jumps around as I type

Hi, after the last update, this is globally good on the m2 air, thx, but I have to reboot after suspend to get wifi back. Restarting iwd and NM is not enought anymore. Also, I feel like my screen/dpms doesnt turn off on suspend now. It was well the case during a moment.

axboe: I don't want to spam the -dev channel, so I am asking here: I have exactly the same problem on J314sAP regarding wifi and suspend your wrote in the dev channel. What exactly do you rmmod/modprob?
<mkurz>
So, the new firmware-based battery charge control sets the threshold to 75%/80%. Does that mean I am not able anymore to allow the battery to fully charge?
<mkurz>
I totally get the 75%/80% threshold, and I did set a similiar threshold myself using a udev rule until today's update.
<mkurz>
However sometimes I would like to let the battery charge up to 100% when I know I will not have access to a power source for a while.
<ChaosPrincess>
you can set it to either 80% or 100%
<mkurz>
Ah
vimdiesel has joined #asahi
<mps>
I started again to use my old charge-ctl daemon to keep it around 90%
<j`ey>
that wont work in s2idle
<j`ey>
but the hw charge control does

<mkurz>
so yes 100% works even in the kde advanced power settings
<mps>
ah
<mps>
but 80% is also fine
<mkurz>
I tried 94% before to test things out and it went back to 80% after closing / opening the settings again
<mkurz>
before the update it would stick to that value I entered
<mkurz>
but good to know now 80% and 100% is working
<mps>
aha, with modern systems we are loosing control ;)

mps, sounds like you want to reverse engineer the firmware, write your own, and find a way to get it loaded :D

Hello, my Asahi distro isn't showing up in boot manager after updating to macOS 14. Disk Utility says it's not free, so I guess Asahi is just hidden from boot options. Any idea how to fix this?
