<bendodroid> Hi, I read about the macOS recovery version mismatch problem and went to check if my laptop is also affected. The installer says I have SFR version 23.something and SystemRecovery version: 0 (0 (unknown)). Does zero also count as a "version mismatch"? Or is this something else? Coming from the explanation in the wiki I was expecting a number smaller than the SFR version, but not "0 unknown" :P
<ChaosPrincess> mismatch in itself turned out to not be a problem, the issue is if you disable 120hz mode on primary display and attempt to boot to certain buggy SFR versions
<bendodroid> Ok. Since I always have mine in ProMotion mode it shouldn't be a problem for me (I think). I was just wondering if I should instead worry about the 0 (0 (unknown)) part
<ChaosPrincess> probably not. Which macos version are you running? there are reports that 14.1.1 fixed this issue
<bendodroid> I am running macOS 14.1.1 (23B81), the installer is from a few minutes ago via https://fedora-asahi-remix.org/install
<ChaosPrincess> you should be most likely fine then
<bendodroid> Alright, thx :3

<mort_6> is it just me or does the installer seem to create too small /boot partitions

<j`ey> how many kernels do you have in there?
ChaiTRex has quit [Quit: ChaiTRex]
<mort_> I had 2, I deleted one of them now to make space for this kernel upgrade
ChaiTRex has joined #asahi
<j`ey> I thought it was meant t be 1GB, mine's apparently 740M according to df -h
<mort_> mine seems to be 1GB
<j`ey> and a kernel+dtb+initramfs+.map is about 150M, so you should be able to have 3 in at least
<nicolas17> j`ey: maybe df doesn't include the root-reserved space?
PiR has joined #asahi
<mort_> seems like I have one normal and one +16k version of some of these thinsg
<mort_> initramfs-6.5.6-403.asahi.fc38.aarch64.img and initramfs-6.5.6-403.asahi.fc38.aarch64+16k.img are both 94MiB each
<j`ey> you dont need the non 16k ones
<nicolas17> are they in separate packages?
<nicolas17> oh initramfs, that's generated locally
<j`ey> if you have both kernel and kernel-16k installed, that might be why your running out
<mort_> yeah, probably
<mort_> so the initramfs is generated locally, so I’ll just delete the non 16k ones; are the non-16k versions of the others (dtb, the kernel itself, etc) in a separate package from the 16k ones?
<mort_> I guess I can ask dnf about that
<nicolas17> I think if you remove a kernel package, it will remove its corresponding initramfs too, even though technically it was generated locally
<j`ey> they are, kernel and kernel-16k
<nicolas17> so don't delete any files manually :)

<kidplayer666> mort_: niiiice.
<kidplayer666> I managed two weeks ago
<kidplayer666> To brick fedora
<kidplayer666> By accidentally deleting the bin and etc folders on root
<j`ey> how??
<nicolas17> many years ago a friend accidentally ran "rm -r logs /*"
<nicolas17> as root, on macOS
<nicolas17> deleted the kernel >_<
<nicolas17> er without the -r
<nicolas17> "rm -f logs /*"
<j`ey> Ive done a similar thing
<j`ey> "rm -r build/ *" ..
<Tramtrist> mmmm... metapackage
<mort_> I once accidentally bricked an arch install by deleting /usr/bin
<kidplayer666> j`ey:
<kidplayer666> Pycharm community edition
<mort_> a very ill-fated attempt at installing rakudo (or Perl 6 back then)

<kidplayer666> I realised that was probably not the smartest idea

<kidplayer666> Ctrl+Z
<kidplayer666> Which prompted me to remove the folders
<kidplayer666> With _all_ of the content
<kidplayer666> Not just what I just pasted
<kidplayer666> Let’s just say the system broke down pretty quickly afterwards
<ChaosPrincess> well, at least nobody here did a gitlab :P
<nicolas17> x.x
<nicolas17> I remember someone talking about AWS Glacier prices saying "yeah but if one day you pull a gitlab, you have to sell a kidney to restore the backup"
<ChaosPrincess> thats quite a fair assessment of their prices
<j`ey> kidplayer666: oof
<kidplayer666> Im feeling that aws is worth a bit more than a kidney
<kidplayer666> ChaosPrincess: pushing to prod?
<ChaosPrincess> gitlab ran a rm -rf on both replicas of their prod db by accident
<ChaosPrincess> and then spent like 18 hrs worth of downtime while they were restoring their backup from azure
<nicolas17> kidplayer666: someone at gitlab ran "rm -r *" on a database server while troubleshooting replication, then realized they ran it on the wrong one of the two servers
