I'm trying to do something silly (build rtl_sdr on Haiku) and I don't know how pkg-config is supposed to work on this OS. I have the libusb_x86_devel package, but pkg-config seems to think its not here. Anyone know where I should look to learn more about how this is supposed to work?
<waddlesplash>
note that on 32-bit there are two compilers
<waddlesplash>
by default you have gcc2 in PATH
<waddlesplash>
the _x86 suffix in packages on 32-bit implies the use of the newer (currently GCC 11) compiler
<waddlesplash>
so, in order to use those packages, which are installed in a secondary directory, you need to use the other compiler
<waddlesplash>
run "setarch x86" to switch your PATH
<waddlesplash>
note also though that you need to install the other pkg-config as well ("pkg_config_x86" the package is called)
<ARF_EeePC>
ahh okay thanks let me give that a shot
<waddlesplash>
then the pkg-config in your "setarch x86" shell should be able to see libusb
<waddlesplash>
however ... does RTL-SDR depend on isochronous USB transfers
<ARF_EeePC>
i have no clue :)
<waddlesplash>
odds are it does, most media apps do
<waddlesplash>
right now only the USB3 interface driver "more or less" supports isochronous
<waddlesplash>
but it's not really used, I don't know if our libusb port has isochronous supported wired in, even
<waddlesplash>
on the other hand if you just need control/bulk/interrupt transfers, then things may work, who knows?
* waddlesplash
is the current "USB stack maintainer" for lack of there being basically anyone else working on it
<waddlesplash>
though, the libusb port is mostly the work of a few GSoC students and then intermittent patches from PulkoMandy
<waddlesplash>
I didn't have basically anything to do with that
<ARF_EeePC>
First i was going to just goof with cmake until I get to the stage of compile errors then dig into the code.
<waddlesplash>
well, that sounds like a good plan :)
<ARF_EeePC>
didn'
<ARF_EeePC>
t know about the setarch thing, thanks for the tip

waddlesplash: thanks again for the help. I was able to get rtl_sdr to compile and run, but trying to record samples gave libusb errors. I think it was like you said, trying to use isochronous transfers (async mode)
<AbortRetryFail>
It also has a -s synchronous mode that gave me a *different* libusb error, but I was running out of brain and went to sleep. Might try this again some other time.

phaedros: Chromium stuff doesn't work with WINE yet. x512[m] was looking at it I think
<phaedros>
I got Haiku on USB SSD disks (Samsung T5 and T7). That make it very easy to test HW .. Today I tested my Linux laptop (HP ELitebook G5), and Wifi works now :) R1B3 didn't. But only Vesa.
<phaedros>
