g'morning peeps
<thomaslewis>
Good evening. 😛
<Begasus>
hi thomaslewis :)
<thomaslewis>
I had to reinstall. I mistakenly thought I could update to the newest nightly. Hit the intel wifi issue.
<waddlesplash>
you can just use the bootloader to revert to your previous state
<waddlesplash>
no need to reinstall
<thomaslewis>
Oops.
<thomaslewis>
It's been a while since I've had Haiku as the exclusive OS on my computer. I think it was before the package system was in place, IIRC.
<Begasus>
previous state was something that has been around for ... ever? ;)
<thomaslewis>
Yes, but I've put many more things into my brain since then. Oh, well. I didn't have much on here, yet. I'll just install stuff as I need it again.
<Begasus>
lol
<waddlesplash>
I haven't reinstalled in years, even with my kernel development experiments wreaking all kinds of havoc
<waddlesplash>
boot to previous state is just epic
<Begasus>
I had to do it last week waddlesplash , but probably something weird on my side as you suggested then
<waddlesplash>
yeah, seemed like BFS disk corruption maybe
<Begasus>
But those are rare

k, DISABLE_ASLR=1 doesn't seem to do the trick for "out of memore" on qprompt (32bit)

Is there a way to permanently assign an environment variable for a program (such as the one to disable client-side drawing for GTK)? My immediate thought goes to attributes..

the 6GB laptop Begasus ?
<rennj>
how much swap
<rennj>
good old days make it 2.5x phyiscal ram
<rennj>
for those core/crash dumps
<rennj>
course haiku kernel is no solaris kernel

rennj, didn't use swap ... had been thinking about it though

I was able to successfully build and install a Debian package for Ubuntu 21.04 on the Raspberry Pi 400. 4 GB of RAM are not enough to successfully compile QPrompt due to the large size of some of its assets.
<rennj>
some one else was having issues it appears
<rennj>
add 6GB of swap if you got the drive space..and try again
<Begasus>
same laptop on 64bit it buids ok
<rennj>
you got swap enabled on that version?
<Begasus>
nope, default install, same as 32bit
<rennj>
There won't be support for the regular 32 bit version of Raspberry Pi OS for now, until I can figure out how to cross compile it, because the program can't be built on the system due to the limited amount of virtual RAM that can be allocated under 32 bits.
<rennj>
6GB of ram with PAE support on 32bit?
<rennj>
does haiku support PAE
<Begasus>
So probably not worth the energy for 32bit
<Begasus>
no idea rennj
<rennj>
64bit address space on 32bit you limit to 4GB unless you got PAE
<Begasus>
18 out of 138 tests failed (xcftools) not that bad
<Begasus>
I think I saw ram usage to up to almost 4GB before it errored out
