<rennj>
In order to perform redirection by DNS the captive portal uses DNS hijacking to perform an action similar to a man-in-the-middle attack. To limit the impact of DNS poisoning, a TTL of 0 is typically used.
<rennj>
heh
<rennj>
anyway updated the 2019 vm to firefox103/chrome104 solve that bullshit issue

<Begasus>
g'morning peeps
<Begasus>
wb LinuxUser
<LinuxUser>
@Begasus Hello! I'm glad to see you. I upgraded Haiku to latest nightly build but errors the same. Firefox doesn't work, Virtualbox doesn't want to compile
<Begasus>
I don't think you can LinuxUser (mentioned somewhere yesterday that some attemped VBox but failed, whishlist for some to have Firefox but no one ever got as far as anything usefull
<Begasus>
You could search the forum on talks about them
<Begasus>
Did you try out WebPositive or Otter?
<LinuxUser>
yes
<Begasus>
Both do the trick for me on Haiku (for my needs)
tuaris has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<LinuxUser>
But why Qemu has got too low performance
<Begasus>
Not familiar there but I guess some command line options could help out there
Begasus_32 has joined #haiku
<LinuxUser>
Very strange but when I use QEMU through virt-manager on my host the performance is good
<LinuxUser>
Is there virt-manager for Haiku?
<Begasus>
Well, Haiku is "still" in Beta phase, so one should keep in mind that progress is needed for some parts
<Begasus>
Don't think so
<Begasus>
You can search for packages like on linux, Haiku uses "pkgman" (cli) or "HaikuDepot" (gui) to install/uninstall packages
<LinuxUser>
You are right. I'm wondering how the small group of people can make this amazing os.
<Begasus>
I'm not part there :) (can't even code "Hello World!") ;)
<LinuxUser>
@Begasus Are you Haiku developer? Or just Haiku user?
<Begasus>
I'm part of the haikuports team, where we create scripts that will enable packages to be installed for the users
<Begasus>
Most (or a lot) OS's use recipes (apkbuild ...) for their packages, haikuports does the same
<LinuxUser>
I think porting linux programs for Haiku is difficult
<netpositive>
morning
<Begasus>
morning netpositive
<Begasus>
deppends LinuxUser
<Begasus>
quite some Qt/KDE apps are already ported to Haiku
<LinuxUser>
But why virtualbox doesn't compile(I got error: $kbuilddir variable not found)
<Begasus>
Lately we are haven a look at GTK3 apps
<Begasus>
Maybe because Haiku doesn't know the $kbuilddir variable?
<LinuxUser>
But why virbualbox's compiler detected environment? I think vbox compiler has support for haiku
<LinuxUser>
@Begasus Have you just started the morning?
<LinuxUser>
Huh, it's already afternoon in Russia
<LinuxUser>
I think for virt-manager chances are low since virt-manager uses libvirt, libvirt uses systemd for its service. But in haiku systemd isn't implemented :(
<LinuxUser>
Which service system Haiku uses?
<LinuxUser>
Are you on Haiku?
<LinuxUser>
@Begasus Where is you??

Here now :)

back
<Begasus>
Had to take one of the kids to work
<Begasus>
No systemd in Haiku yes
<LinuxUser>
Ok, if no systemd for haiku but which service system haiku uses? openrc? or haiku uses own service system?
<Begasus>
DCC doesn't work here :)

<LinuxUser>
@Begasus What is DCC?
<Begasus>
You trying to send me a file over IRC
<LinuxUser>
I tried yesterday but it dont works
<Begasus>
That's why I said it, think the firewall blocks those here
<LinuxUser>
Ok
<Begasus>
If those are images you could try some imaging hosting site?
<LinuxUser>
If you can - write when you will compile it successfully.
<LinuxUser>
There is vbox guest additions for haiku in haikudepot
<Begasus>
If you could install haikuporter/haikuports you could grab that and just extract not build it
<LinuxUser>
yes i can
<Begasus>
Yeah, but that package doesn't provide the source
<LinuxUser>
i dont know to use haikuporter
<LinuxUser>
@begasus i dont need source
<Begasus_32>
kmk: *** No rule to make target '/Opslag/wip/VirtualBox-5.2.44/src/VBox/HostDrivers/Support/haiku/SUPLib-haiku.cpp', needed by '/Opslag/wip/VirtualBox-5.2.44/out/haiku.x86/release/obj/SUPR3/haiku/SUPLib-haiku.o'. Stop
<Begasus>
bugger
<LinuxUser>
i just need to run it
<Begasus>
You can't run it if you can't build it :)
<Begasus>
the add-ons are somewhat broken iirc also
<LinuxUser>
i'll try to build 5.2.44 version
<LinuxUser>
@Begasus Your build process failed?
<Begasus>
yes :/
<LinuxUser>
is this mean that there is NO WAY to run vbox?
<Begasus>
As I mentioned earlier :/
<LinuxUser>
oh, no!
<LinuxUser>
Sadly, very sadly... :((((((((
<LinuxUser>
Is there a way to run vmware player on haiku? or not?
<Begasus>
Well, I can live without it :)
<Begasus>
nope
<Begasus>
same thing I imagine
<LinuxUser>
but why qemu is too slow?
<Begasus>
Any reason why you want to run it anyway?
<Begasus>
Don't know, don't use virtualization on Haiku
<LinuxUser>
I love virtual machines very much..
<LinuxUser>
And in future i want to install haiku on my host
<Begasus>
Yeah, and they can be fun to work in, but if I do it's on Linux or Windows
<Begasus>
How do you run Haiku now?
<LinuxUser>
QEMU VM through termux and vnc on android
<Begasus>
0_°
<Begasus>
That's quite a setup :)
<LinuxUser>
With command: qemu-system-x86_64 -vnc :2 -hda haiku.qcow -m 1024 -boot c
<LinuxUser>
fun fact: when i ran my vm on pc with vbox i can install macos :)

Hey, I'm trying to get booted into haiku OS on actual hardware -- an AMD 5950x with an AMD video card, too. I tried both CSM and UEFI mode, but both instances, it booted to the boot logo and froze
<JayF>
I might try fresh media? I got this DVD from Linux Pro Magazine...
