legendaryamerican: funny thing is this is also a thinkcenter .. but an older modest one
<S1Nx81-Haiku>
M710s
<S1Nx81-Haiku>
bought it as my playground for niche OSs pretty much
<legendaryamerican>
S1Nx81-Haiku: well.. the n1s can be gotten for cheap these days.. when you can find them. The idea haiku let's you set priority to real time.. might make them suitable on rack audio setups... running plug in hosts and plugins in real time.
<S1Nx81-Haiku>
hm, milkytracker does not start up
<S1Nx81-Haiku>
:(
<S1Nx81-Haiku>
instant crash

And if my experiments further out.. I might get a 7 inch touchscreen for it and start setting it up with a vst host. IIRC vst didn't require recompile on the plug-ins.
<legendaryamerican>
On haiku

<S1Nx81-Haiku>
uh can Haiku even host VST's, specificly Win32/64 ones ?
<legendaryamerican>
But the vst people recompiling the steinberg stuff.. will have to make sure that real time priority is gold.
<legendaryamerican>
S1Nx81-Haiku: pre and post 2009 experiments say yes with the recompiled steinberg stuff
<legendaryamerican>
Beos had the aftermarket steinberg vst software host.
<S1Nx81-Haiku>
but is there a decent DAW to host em on Haiku ? all i see is LMMS and uhhhhh
<legendaryamerican>
I'd say get vst host first. It's simpler and there was left open the possibility of A. A reaper port. B. A post mev and angry red planet project. I was reading recently.. t-racks is still around... it was included as a download for umm.. ik uno
<legendaryamerican>
Maybe ik uno.
thomaslewis has left #haiku [#haiku]
<S1Nx81-Haiku>
milkytracker seems busted
<legendaryamerican>
But yeah. There was three main projects mev was one.. the wave editor.. and sequitur. But that stuff together with 3dmix... would be insane. Then again.. youd have to gauge which was simpler- that, or reaper.
<legendaryamerican>
Shortest path to audio and midi destruction.
<legendaryamerican>
For now it suffices to run the vst dlls... from a host that can load in cortex.
<legendaryamerican>
That's what the steinberg vst host in beos and early haiku experiments did

<legendaryamerican>
The only caveat is some vsts these days authenticate online.
<legendaryamerican>
Those its hard to make operate in realtime.. unless we set It up to authenticate before going to RT prio
<S1Nx81-Haiku>
i tried a few years ago to get many vsts working on a linux setup via a wrapper
<S1Nx81-Haiku>
and then inside reaper
<S1Nx81-Haiku>
a lot of the most popular did not work
<legendaryamerican>
The idea for live performance host is boot to the os.. it loads the host on the startup with preselected vst ready and in RT...
<legendaryamerican>
Cortex would open on boot with a hey script loading the setup.
<S1Nx81-Haiku>
unless you can get a host/wrapper that can run win64 vsts not sure it would be worth it
<S1Nx81-Haiku>
since aside from u-he and a few others no one is really doing non windows(in this case linux) native vsts
<legendaryamerican>
We had a wrapped that could run win32 vst.. even along rt hosting.
<legendaryamerican>
Wrapper. So yes. It can be done relatively easy.
<legendaryamerican>
For a programmer it can I mean.
<legendaryamerican>
The biggest problem I see is stuff requiring authentication. Because that checks online.
<legendaryamerican>
(Also.. would want to tweak notify settings to make it startup ok verbose)

<S1Nx81-Haiku>
32bit vsts are very much deprecated tho
<S1Nx81-Haiku>
i dont think anything like say .. Kontakt still offers a 32bit vst at all even
<legendaryamerican>
There's some good ones..still
<legendaryamerican>
Oldies but moldies. (Notify was originally devised as something to also be able to display on lcd led small factor displays)
<legendaryamerican>
These days it's oled or qled. Cheap stuff has nicer 2 by displays
<legendaryamerican>
So really... if things are configured properly.. youd only need an oled. Now. If you wanted midi control of vsts that's different but a mapped control surface would still allow.. a nano blade connected to a notify and status oled or similar.
<legendaryamerican>
Boots and goes through the startup scripting I described. Ready to roll.
<legendaryamerican>
You'd have a tight.. compact.. rackable and very powerful live vst host. Rivaling 10 thousand dollar vst host hardware.
<legendaryamerican>
Which are real time.. and also allow midi control of parameters and a small screen. It's more designed for live performance. From there your outs can go to a daw system or board. In addition to live outs.
<legendaryamerican>
I mess in my life with both daws and mixer/recorders
<legendaryamerican>
A fair number of mixers will daw integrate.
<legendaryamerican>
Its a never ending battle for the musician when it comes to equipment.
<legendaryamerican>
Saving them money with a live rt vst host.. its major.
<legendaryamerican>
Ubuntu RT is slated for release sometime 2023. Windows rt is expensive and hard to get into for music related stuff. So.. no go on these systems.

<legendaryamerican>
Heck if you want do a port of cantible
<legendaryamerican>
If the port can accept haiku priorities
thomaslewis has left #haiku [#haiku]
<legendaryamerican>
I daresay.. roland and arturia.. and some others.. their vst requiring authentication.. they make good products but "scratches head" I wonder if this would cause a problem for Realtime rigs.

They had a native version of the se product. Now. Getting the software for ik uno synth and drum would be nice.. but t-racks ran.

hrev56276 and newer won't successfully compile a build. I'm not able to open new applications but the mouse will work for a while and I can close applications. I've looked at the commit messages and I don't recognize anything that should / could cause this.

why is execve returning Operation not allowed ?
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Is your file marked as executable? Try manually running it too.
<Anarchos>
AGMS it says Fatal error: exception Configurator__Import.Fatal_error("Configurator scripts must be run with Dune. To manually run a script, use $ dune exec.")
<Anarchos>
so i guess it is executable
<Anarchos>
but it mandates to be runned through the 'dune' executable
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Huh. Sort of like the way Windows programs when run under DOS say something similar.
<Anarchos>
AGMS according to source code of haiku, it can be a EPERM error, or a B_NOT_ALLOWED
<Anarchos>
but i don't know how to investigate why it says so
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Possibly it has a bash script header or mini-execuatable that just exits with that error code and message. Try "strings" on your file to see if that mini-program is embedded.
selfish has quit [Read error: No route to host]
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Looks like you have to do a multi-argument exec to run Dune with the "exec" keyword followed by the actual file name.
