good morning Begasus
<Begas_VM>
g'morning erysdren
<erysdren>
seems like i'm gonna have to find an LPT extension cable
<erysdren>
never thought i'd need one of those...
mmu_man has joined #haiku
<Begas_VM>
LPT?
<erysdren>
Parallel
<Begasus>
ah, jeez ;)
<Begas_VM>
do they still make them? (probably)
<erysdren>
seems so
<erysdren>
or atleast there is a large amount of stock in warehouses
<erysdren>
which is cheap

nice, created a epub build with sphinx, opens fine in Sigil :)

so what's the deal with nvidia drivers on haiku
<erysdren>
guessing nouveau hasn't been ported
<erysdren>
is haiku hoping to have them written from scratch?
<Begasus_32>
nielx[m] is mostly working on that afaik
<erysdren>
oh i guess it wouldn't matter too much since GL is still purely software
<erysdren>
hmm
pvalue has joined #haiku
<erysdren>
mainly i'm asking because i really wanna try to help with haiku if i can find something that i could reasonably work on
<erysdren>
i have a list of software/drivers that i would need to daily drive haiku (which i'd really like to try someday)
<erysdren>
but they're all big projects i can't tackle myself
<erysdren>
idk just rambling
tqh has joined #haiku
<Begasus>
nothing wrong with rambling :) (patches welcome) :P
pvalue has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<erysdren>
so Haiku has MPV which is great, for watching youtube videos without actually having to load youtube.com in webpositive
<erysdren>
but i'm wondering if i could write a halfassed GUI frontend that let me pull results for a given search term and select a video from the list
<erysdren>
...or maybe in the long run it would be better to just work on porting firefox
<Begasus>
plenty of talk at the forum for that one atm
<erysdren>
a while back i saw a post (reddit?) from someone who said that they did a full port of firefox but it was denied because "they said i didn't respect the Haiku filesystem guidelines"
<erysdren>
but i doubt that's true
<Begasus>
doubt it too :)
<tqh>
erysdren, that seems very very unlikely
<erysdren>
yeah it sounded like a guy talking out of his ass
<erysdren>
firefox on haiku would almost complete it as a daily driver for me personally
<Begas_VM>
can live without so far :)
<tqh>
a good browser and some virtualisation would go a long way for me.
<erysdren>
when Qt5 is further along in Haiku i wanna port OBS and TrenchBroom. those are daily-use programs for me
<trungnt2910[m]>
All I need on Haiku is Chromium/Electron (so VSCode), .NET, and some kind of compatibility layer for Linux apps.
<tqh>
no idea what those apps are
<erysdren>
OBS = Open Broadcaster Software
<Begas_VM>
good radio streaming would be nice ...
<erysdren>
OBS for screen recording and livestreaming
<erysdren>
TrenchBroom is a top-of-the-line level editor for Quake (1996) and descendents
<erysdren>
both use Qt5
<Begas_VM>
qmplay2 and streamradio both crashing on me :/
<tqh>
ah
<erysdren>
agreed on Electron. just for VS Code here
<trungnt2910[m]>
Chromium > Firefox
<erysdren>
also, OBS does run on FreeBSD so that's where i'd start instead of the Linux version
<erysdren>
when trying to port to Haiku
Begasus_32 has quit [Quit: Vision[]: Gone to the dogs!]
<trungnt2910[m]>
Talking about UI frameworks, how stable is GTK3 on Haiku?
<trungnt2910[m]>
I might want to try out some Gtk# applications.
<nephele>
trungnt2910[m]: we do live color updates. If you want this it can be added indeed. likely a similar codepath to changing font sizes live as you will basically need to rerender to entire view
<kallisti5[m]>
whoo. this new job is murdering my burn-out
<kallisti5[m]>
Any opinions on the future login page for "all the things"?
<nephele>
waddlesplash: hmm okay, can you email me a login?
<waddlesplash>
nephele: I think you can create an account there?
<waddlesplash>
nephele: however you will have to ask humdinger or nielx for language permissions iirc
<waddlesplash>
kallisti5[m]: wouldn
<waddlesplash>
't "murdering burnout" be a good thing?
* kallisti5[m]
nods
<kallisti5[m]>
it is a good thing.. that's why that new sso login page exists :-)
<waddlesplash>
kallisti5[m]: my only opinion is: that's an ugly url :P
<nephele>
kallisti5[m]: the general layout seems fine, but the contrast is too little (to see where the text boxes start and end) and there is no dark mode ;)
<kallisti5[m]>
waddlesplash: haha, it's an oauth2 thing. Gerrit sends you there
<nephele>
Wondering if you can "just" use the OS style for those controls, as in unstyled? I've tried to make the native controls render nicely in webkit :)
<trungnt2910[m]>
So Haiku itself is providing OAuth?
<kallisti5[m]>
login to gerrit -> go to that url -> login -> redirect back to gerrit
<nephele>
trungnt2910[m]: kallisti5 is working on it
<trungnt2910[m]>
Would be nice if it could be connected to my GitHub account.
<kallisti5[m]>
waddlesplash: fun story.. at the moment I can login to gerrit via github *or* sso.haiku-os.org
<nephele>
trungnt2910[m]: you can login to gerrit with github
<nephele>
unfortunately
<kallisti5[m]>
trungnt2910: that's phase two.
<nephele>
but all other stuff is not tied up with any sso yet, that is next on the line#
<trungnt2910[m]>
nephele: Which is what I am currently doing.
<nephele>
Yes, I had to create a microsoft account just to be able to contribute, which kind of sucks >.>
<nephele>
In the future I may be able to delete it again when kallisti5 works his magic :D
<kallisti5[m]>
phase 1: Login to gerrit with github *or* sso.haiku-os.org
<kallisti5[m]>
phase 2: Login to gerrit with sso.haiku-os.org using local users or social accounts like github
<kallisti5[m]>
pretty much.. i gotta migrate identities over from github directly to sso.haiku-os.org
<kallisti5[m]>
I have a WIP guide here. The process isn't too hard
<kallisti5[m]>
... which I didn't save
<kallisti5[m]>
and i rebooted and it's gone :sigh:
<kallisti5[m]>
there goes my burnout-free state. crawls into a corner
<nephele>
Haha, Koder crashes trying to open the html file for that site
<nephele>
i think it chokes on the filename
jjido has quit [Quit: My laptop has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]

kallisti5[m]: I kind of want to do the css stuff :D
<kallisti5[m]>
i mean... it's in git kinda
<nephele>
that isn't filling me with confidence, gerrits data is also kinda in git
