Begasus: basically debugging data can not be added afterwards. however it makes sense to remove it for end users as they don't need it virtually all the time. and for the rest the solution is to have debugging packages which basically contain what strip removes but in a seperate set of files. so they can be installed as needed. however that process needs an unstripped binary to begin with.

I actually have a ticket at work for something related to the idea. basically such an open command that works over the network.
