Heh, there's a discussion over on KDE's Visual Design Group talking about issues with SVG icon scaling.
<win8linux[m]>
s/a/some/, s/discussion/talk/
<win8linux[m]>
Some of it is rather reminiscent of the problems HVIF is meant to solve.
<win8linux[m]>
Then someone suggested porting over HVIF as a solution.
<win8linux[m]>
* Heh, there's some talk over on KDE's Visual Design Group chat talking about issues with SVG icon scaling.
<win8linux[m]>
Aside from necessitating a cross-platform HVIF icon editor and fitting an entirely different icon style into HVIF limits, how feasible would it be to have HVIF on other systems?
<erysdren>
i wouldn't know, but i like the idea of the format spreading outside Haiku
<Begasus>
Maybe if IOM could be ported over there win8linux[m]? Don't know if that's possible though ...
<win8linux[m]>
Prolly better to make another HVIF icon editor with Qt instead.

Nice, Haiku on the map again :) "Thanks! I added short info Haiku: unofficial builds <URL> at the homepage."
<erysdren>
howdy Begasus, what are some Haiku-specific file formats?
<erysdren>
the only one that comes to mind for me is HVIF
<Begasus>
not really an idea erysdren, better to ask one of the main devs there

erysdren: styled text (used by StyledEdit) and email files are also Haiku/BeOS specific.Possibly also serialized BMessage, BPicture, and maybe the driver-settings file format (somewhat similar to .ini files from windows but a bit different)

OscarL: AGG? Tools like Inkscape 1.3, Affinity Designer 2.1, WonderBrush 3 (not finished) on Haiku.
<OscarL>
cocobean: I know what it is used for (matplotlib also has a vendored version with fixes, BTW). I was just wondering why the insistence on pushing changes that are not upstreamed/released, or from unstable URLs.
<OscarL>
I understand that it would be nice to have it updated it, and with clear license and released from "upstream". Just found it a bit odd/funny at the time the repeated attempts to push recipe changes that were not ready for prime time. That's all.
<cocobean>
I fixed that.
<OscarL>
the URL is still wrong. SOURCE_URIs should be stable.
<cocobean>
There is no new release yet.
<OscarL>
that's the point.
<cocobean>
Put patches were based on previous stable releases.
<cocobean>
(but)
<OscarL>
Either you wait for a release, or use a release as SOURCE_URI + patchset.
<OscarL>
cocobean: that's just my view, of course, so take that as you see it fit :-)
<cocobean>
:D
<cocobean>
Point taken.

<OscarL>
at some point I think even waddlesplash thought about setting up a repo for AGG, trying to gather all the different patches from different forks (seems the ones from matplotlib went under the radar).. but that seems like it went nowhere.
<OscarL>
Hi Begasus.
<cocobean>
congrats on early retirement..... celebrations for next year.
<Begasus>
not there yet ;)
<Begasus>
OscarL, change on line 70 needed? ;)
<OscarL>
why not? :-D
<OscarL>
I like my phrases end in a proper dot.
<Begasus>
it doesn't add anything functional there? :P
<OscarL>
:-P
<Begasus>
lol
<OscarL>
style cleanups (or typo fixes in comments) never do either, but we do them anyway :D
<cocobean>
OscarL: I using the latest "release" used other devs forking AGG for their projects - yet now we have the latest patches included for Haiku Icons work and other projects.
<OscarL>
I think that my thinking was... if the people more involved in (Zardshard, and devs working on app_server) do not seem to be in a real hurry about it... it doesn't seems to justfify rushed recipes updates.
<Begasus>
Wanted to do the same for fltk, didn't make it also (yet) :)
<cocobean>
OscarL: Allows people to work on an external lib testing before kernel integration/updating to the other AGG fork.

Alright... with tqdm out of the way... I only know of two Python packages still giving problems... numpy on 32 bits (might work with just a rev-bump?), and scipy on both (libgfortran.so issue). Time for me to work on Py 3.12 a bit more.
<Begasus>
go for it :)

k. Seems we have a working python 3.12.0, release candidate 2, same day it came out. Handling the final release (next month) should be just a matter of switching the SOURCE_URI/CHECKSUM.
<Begasus>
crossing fingers OscarL :)
<OscarL>
According to Python's docs... release should be just rc2 (code-wise), with fixes in docs/release notes, etc. (barring someone finding a last minute deal-breaker bug).

<OscarL>
Anarchos: `ls /bin/*attr` will list the commands that you can use to script/automate the process.
<OscarL>
(a read/modify/save loop over the results of the `query` command)
<Anarchos>
i wonder if addattr can replace attibute.
jmairboeck has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
<OscarL>
not sure if replace it, but you can always get the value with listattr, save that, use rmattr, and then addattr.
<Anarchos>
for the loop, i thought to something like ' query MAIL:account=XXX |xargs addattr YYYYY'
<OscarL>
yeah, either that, or some bash array looping (array being something like RESULT=`query ...`).
